in terms of sucessful eras of the band it seems there are three studio album cycles in each era that was popular before another new member joins with journey starting with...

gregg rollie era starts...1975-journey,1976-look into the future,1977-next
steve perry era starts...1978-infinity,1979-evolution,1980-departure
jon cain era starts.........1981-escape,1983-frontiers,1986-raised on radio

then you had the 1990's studio album trial by fire then...

steve augeri era starts...2001-arrival,2002-red 13,2005-generations.

maybe 2008's revelation is the start of a three album run by arnel...

I sure hope that's the case Mike. Two more albums would be great.

Met Steve Smith a few weeks ago and very nearly asked this question!! But i fugured he gets sick of the Journey questions, nice guy and he signed some of my stuff which was cool.
I heard that they got together in L.A prior to the release,if what they say regarding Perry's voice was true how in gods name did the band think they were going tour this?

Barf. Because he is so great and had SO much solo success, right?

LTS was the first top 20 song and not only was Cain nowhere near it, the ONLY writing credit goes to... who was it now? Some guy with long hair and beak, I'm told. They'd have never charted without him and everyone knows that.

Look, no one is denying Cain's contribution here - I like his playing a lot and musically, he was a good choice for Journey - but you make him sound like one and only saving grace of that band and he isn't. Their highest charting hit only did so because the aforementioned Beakon took a piece of instrumental music that John Waite said was shit and put his lyrics and VOICE to and turned it into a song that took virginities left and right.

I still prefer the older sound with Rolie though.

1 Top 20 Rolie era hit
How many with Cain. Proof is in the pudding.
