Unfortunately, a 19 cents difference, even if you are filling your 15 gallon tank only makes a $2.85 savings... less if you aren't filling up.

Only $2.85? Add .15¢ more and you're all over the dollar menu at McDonalds.

Gasoline for December delivery just hit $1.23 a gallon. Add tax and everyone should see $1.69 to $1.89 gas. I just filled up for $32 in my trailblazer at $1.749 per gallon. 2 months ago it would cost $75.00.

Gasoline in central Ohio is $1.85 for regular unleaded. In an exurb county, you can get gasoline for $1.58 now (two days ago).

People with money will buy whatever the fuck they want. It has always been this way. Rich people don't give a flying shit about anyone but themselves.

Cause there is absolutely NO reason to own a vehicle that costs upwards of 50 Gs, or a house that costs over 500,000. Period.

$1.49

Postby gtrplr1960 » Sat Nov 15, 2008 12:45 am

I paid $1.49 per gallon on Tuesday at a Kroger grocery store gas station. I did receive a discount since I shop there frequently.

That's true, in my experience. My former in-laws were loaded, and there was a conversation once about an area rug they saw in a model home that was $11,000. When I heard this, I'd said "Even if I hit the lottery tomorrow, I would never ever spend that kind of money on things like that, its just obsene." My father in law said to me, "You say that now, but if you had it, you would spend it like that." I frowned and said "No. I wouldn't." Would I have some nice things? Yes absolutely. Would I spend 11 grand on an area rug? NO.

You do realize that in some parts of this country that the median home price is close to $500K, right? I realize that $500K sounds like a ton of money (and it is). That doesn't change the reality that in some markets $500K is simply the starting point to enter the market. Not everyone can live in Ohio and Indiana.

So if you were financially set, with a nice cushion of play money you would rather have a pair of keds over a pair of Jimmy Choos? It's the same principle... when I was in junior high my handbag came from Claire's or Target... as soon as I had my own money I had a Louis Vuitton wristlet, two coach bags, a Bvlgari wallet... etc. If I had more money I'd be sitting here in Seven or True Religion jeans instead of a pair I found on sale at Gap. The more you have to play with the more your perspectives shift onto what is considered obscene or not. It's human nature to want to be better, and our culture tends to measure that with things.

There is absolutely no reason other than a person wants one.

Technically there is no reason to own a super fast computer, a big screen TV, or any of the luxury items people have.

Your comment on rich people is asinine. The rich give more to charity (because they can) as a percentage of income.

Now, if you want to talk about the likes of Paris Hilton and some of the spoiled rich stars in the world these days, I woud agree.

But all you have to do is look at Bill Gates, or Warren Buffet, Rupert Murdoch to know your statement is false and based on nothing but your own petty jealousies.

I know that, and I agree. But I'd never spend 11k on a freakin' area rug. Yes, I'd have better things, but not OUTRAGEOUS things. I might pay full price of about $80 (as opposed to TJ Maxx price of $32... lol!) for a Kathy Van Zealand bag, but I would not pay $250-300 for a stupid Dooney & Burke MINI handbag because I think that's just fucking stupid and a huge waste of money.

I'm more like you. I am way too practical to spend my money that way. Even if I had more money, it makes no sense to me. I drive a freaking mini-van and could care less how I look. I'm a mom so I look like a mom. Who cares. Appearances are not important to me at all. For some they are though. I think everyone, no matter how much money they make, has their "things" they spend impractically on though. For me it's my concert travels. I will buy target purses forever to have that luxury. It's all in what's important to you I guess. Some might think it's ridiculous I "waste" my money on that though. My husband for one

Hey, I'm with you, Lynn. I get it! I live in a regular smallish house, drive a Honda, and work really hard to afford my concert habit. :D I've seen 41 different bands live this year (and several of those several times), and I've enjoyed every minute of the music, the travels, the conversations with friends old and new, the wackiness, the star-struck rush of getting to meet some of the band members, the lightning-in-a-bottle moments (to borrow Maui Tom's phrase) that can't be planned for but you're so damn glad you're there for when they happen.

My sister has a pile of designer purses in her armoire ... she can only carry one at at time ...

It's all a matter of perspective and whatever makes each of us happy.

Again, Stu....you come out of the woodwork to show the board your great words of wisdom...

However you fathomed that I'm 'jealous' from what I stated is pure fantasy. Stick to friggin' topic, quit bringing in red herrings.

Spending exorbinant amounts of money for vehicles/homes has nothing to do with giving to charity.

In fact, someone who has exorbinant amounts of logic should be giving you some charity.

And if you actually READ what I wrote, instead of automatically latching on to my tip....you'd find that my response was a direct answer to the SUV comment.

I paid $2.03 last night and it didn't make me feel any better or worse than when the price was almost $5. I go to the pump, fill up my car and leave. I don't give 2 fucks what the price is.

Outside Green Bay, WI this weekend gas was $1.93... local reports from family in VA say gas is $1.79 in places there. 8 days from a drive home for Thanksgiving, and it seems futures are still looking quite low for us!! Shiza.

Just had this exact conversation at lunch. If America thinks gas is cheap and runs out to buy big guzzlers again, then I hope gas shoots up to $5 a gal. Americans can be the most apathetic, trendy, gluttonous buffoons in the world.

Btw, gas isn't cheap. Yes, it's better than it was 6 mos ago, but it's still not cheap. And it'll probably rocket right back up next spring/summer when vacation season starts.

Gas is about to go back up, thanks to those pirates over in Africa (and I'm not talking about ass raiders either). Amazing how 5 little speedboats can capture a ship bigger than an aircraft carrier.

Depending on how much Saudi pays in ransom, the little fuckers can forget about hitting cargo ships and go right for the black gold deliveries which would definitely screw up the market.

Where were these bungguzzlers when this stuff had a higher market value? Why wait to hijack 2 mil barrels of it when it's worth drastically less than what it was a few weeks ago? Makes no sense.
