The values she embodies have less to do with good governing then divide and conquer wedge politics, as I see it.

Then tell the liberals to stop creating wedge issues i.e. gay marriage, etc.

By who? - Palin?
These leaks, no matter how jawdroppingly dumb, have credibility because the world has heard her speak.
If she can't name a single magazine or newspaper (when asked three time no less!) nothing is beyond belief.

It has been debunked by the McCain campaign and before that someone on Fox News (Bill Kristol? who I can't stand) said he talked to his sources who said she knew it was a continent but after a long day during a practice debate question accidentally misspoke and said country instead of continent. Before this, she had said continent many times but this one time said country.

My thing is, if this is an issue, why wasn't Obama's 57 states an issue and a bigger one than this.
She could only name one supreme court case, Roe vs. Wade. They dont get magazines and newspapers in bumfuck, you dicker

She was trying to be polite. She probably wanted to say, "I don't read that shit you call papers." She couldn't find the right words though. The Supreme Court cases, off the top of my head I would have a hard time with too. The only I could recall recently would be "Kelo v. New London." Maybe the gun issue they just dealt with and she could've said, "I agreed with it and that's why we need to elect alligator arms to keep the court on the right side. Or it didn't go far enough." Don't get me wrong, if I did research, I could probably come up with hundreds of cases, if not thousands.

At least she didn't say FDR went on TV during the Great Depression.
I am not, and thank God you arent running for public office. they are supposed to know that shit. Although i bet Bush wouldnt do to much better

I bet the constitutional lecturer himself wouldn't have done much better too and the 36 year veteran of the town wouldn't fair well either.

Uhh, that 36 year old veteran was asked the same question as McCain's VP and handled it with ease.

Also, I would pit the self-styled soccer mom againt Obama's jurispurdential know-how any day of the week.

Uhh, last I checked, neither of the presidential candidates had the courage of their convictions to support gay marriage.
Just more of the same mealy mouthed civil union crap.

Point being, the issue wasn't created by the value voters or elected officials (who are full of shit). They didn't bring it to the forefront.

Tito - I, along with the rest of America, witnessed Palin's idiocy on national television.
You will not convince me otherwise.
Her most recent interview with Matt Lauer showed her brainlessly parroting her new favorite catchphrase "inside baseball" ( i guess she grew tired of "mavericks" and "ruffling feathers").

Because of one bad interview? She did well in the debate, doesn't that count. Not saying she won or lost but she handled herself well. I thought she did fine overall. Does that mean she was qualified? No. But, Obama's candidacy took that off the table.

Cuz it was a campaign speech, by a candidate who has been giving many of them for two years.
Palin is new to the scene and her gaffes were made in her national TV debut.

He had a few but were buried. Again, had the media gave him the full court press out of the gates in his first two months, Hillary would be president elect today. Rev. Wright and Ayers alone, whether you like it or not, would've crushed him out of the gate in Iowa. He would've been done after New Hampshire. South Carolina would've been a token victory for him at best.

Also, because we see a guy on TV for a length of time, it makes us feel comfortable with him is a sad commentary about this country and unfortunately is accurate.

Finally, she didn't ever make any errors in her speeches (Obama really didn't either as they read off prepared speeches), we are talking about one bad interview and an alleged behind the scene story(ies) (i.e. inside baseball). Again, she did well in the debate.

He was talking about roe v. wade and then a law he try to pass and failed at. I would hope he could remember that.

I would hope Obama, the constitutional lecturer would be familiar with Supreme Court cases too. If not, he was stealing from University of Chicago.

The divisive wedge issues I am talking about are not just about two boys kissing.
Palin is of the same evangelical-type mold that Bush professed to be and used to great effect in his campaigns.
Obama represents a clean break away from that borderline-theocratic garbage.

Also, Palin's gaffes were not in one interview.
There were many.
She even did a second go-around with Couric at her own request because she thought she could do a better job.
She couldn't.

She doesn't play the flute very good, but I'll bet she blows a mean skin flute. If she did that cross-eyed thing at the same time it would be a real turn-on.

Personally, from an issues standpoint, I don't think she did very well in the debate at all. To me, she came across as someone who didn't know the issues all that well, but had been VERY well coached on exactly what to say--and it was enough. She obviously learned well during the media blackout period.

For sure, she was more likable than Biden, but this should never be a popularity contest, and from an issues standpoint, she dodged many of the questions. She dodged them with a lot of personality and that was enough to get the "Palin is an idiot" media off of her, but memorization shouldn't be an excuse for qualifications. It was enough for most people though, so who am I to say anything?!?

I thought she came across much better later on when she was speaking on her own as opposed to the more robotic performance of memorizing the campaign agenda.

As you said though, McCain would have had to run a perfect campaign to beat Obama. It didn't happen, and I don't know if anybody will ever find out how much impact the Palin issue had on votes. I think there WAS an effect, but there's no telling how much.

Not disagreeing with that so much, but all politicans get preped and coached before debates. She did what she had to do as Biden did.

kgdjpubs wrote:For sure, she was more likable than Biden, but this should never be a popularity contest,

I hope you didn't vote for Obama, if you did then you have to be kidding about this last statement. Obama won because this was a popularity contest and he was the most likable out of the nearly two dozen candidates in both parties that started.

kgdjpubs wrote:I thought she came across much better later on when she was speaking on her own as opposed to the more robotic performance of memorizing the campaign agenda.

To the first point, I totally agree. That's what made her so attractive (not apprerance but actual ideology, etc.) is when she was herself. When they tried to conform her is when she had problems. She had to be someone she wasn't and it showed. I think she disagrees with McCain alot like most conservatives do, hence her uneasiness.

Second point, McCain had to run an absolutely perfect campaign to have just a chance to win. At the end of the day, Palin had very little to no effect on the results. Whatever vote she lost, she got back from the base that was staying home. Obama would've won with or without Palin on the ticket. I said from day one, I disagreed with the insiders and their McCain is the only one who can win b.s. McCain was the only one who couldn't have won for sure. Huckabee and Romney had better chances of the major candidates. Obviously, there were better 2nd and 3rd tier candidates but the media chooses to ignore them which means the stupid public ignores them too. They weren't told to vote for those people.

Yes. Because it wouldn't have affected me. I am a true believer of small government. Hopefull she would've said this is too big and we need to cut. Second and most important, I hate to burst everyone's bubble but the President isn't the one and only person running the show. They have an enomorous amount of advisors, department heads, cabinet, etc., etc. Yes they call the final shot but only the so called major ones. The day to day, they have very little communication or input on things because they are not that important. She wouldn't be sitting alone in the oval office wondering, "wow, what should I do about Iran, Russia, etc." Sure it's her final call but I think others (and this goes for any prez) have almost made the call for them already.
