i'll lay a hundred dollar bet that a solo perry album gets released within the next year at some point.he sat back and watched the new journey album basically almost top the charts and he isn't the one singing.i love the man to death and we know perry does have an ego and there ain't no way he lets neal and company bury him in the past and leave him in the dust.he is going to prove he still has what it takes and this solo album will be damn good when he finishes because he is going to let the world know that even though he isn't in journey anymore that doesn't mean he doesn't still have what it takes and he still wants to be seen as relevant.....

I pretty much agree with what you said, but I'll add this...people should get down on their hands and knees and thank Neal Schon for the new Perry album because had he not kept Journey going there is no way that Perry, at 60 years of age, would be releasing anything. This is, as you mentioned, his ego not letting him take a backseat to Journey.

I agree with MikeMarrs and Saint John. Maybe it was just the push that he needed to complete writing songs and to finally record -- allegedly record.

I mean honestly guys...

Even playing devil's advocate here and assuming his voice is FRIED beyond belief... you really think the digital studio magic of today couldn't make him sound great?

And as far as that goes, he won't sound fried at all with or without studio magic.

You know what, I don't give a flying fuck for what his motivations are - if he releases another album, I'll buy it and judge it on it's own merits. What the hell does it matter what he thinks, or if he's out to prove something, or why now, or any of it? Who gives a toss why SP does anything? I don't know if he's a nice guy or an arsehole, and to be frank, I don't care! He's a human being, not a saint, not a demon, and I don't know the guy personally anyway! What I do know is the music, and that's all that counts.

Until I meet the guy and get to know him personally (and how unlikely is that!) I'll just give him respect for the music he's made that I love. As for the rest of it - I'm never going to know, and it's none of my god damn business anyway, so why waste time speculating on something so irrelevent to the music?
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

The program is called VH1 Classic - All Time Top Ten Male Singers and it is hosted by Mark Goodman.

ok, according to Mark Goodman, Steve was asked about new music and he stated that he hoped to have a cd out either by the end of the year or the 1/2 half of 2009.

There you have it....

Was reading this thread while watching vh1 classic and almost ominously as I was reading the line about the new album coming out in late '08 or '09... it was said on TV... and then Separate Ways came on. Weird... 6 beers in for the night so far, by the way... Newcastle Brown Ale & Knights Head tonight.

Mark Goodman's words were "Earlier this year word surfaced that Steve was finally working on a new solo album. He said he'd like to release something by the end of this year or by the first half of 09"

"Word surfaced" ... yuk!!! That doesn't sound too official to me. Guess we still wait!

If Steve Perry is putting out a new cd, it only follows that there will be some kind of promotional tour.

I would fly anywhere in the world to be at the first concert!

Perry must have read BJG's Bucket List and realised he needs to do something soon if he was going to have a chance at #3.
Seriously, I thought Mark Goodman said the same thing last year on Sirius.

His birthday is January 22... he'll be 60. Possible release date?

From Wikipedia:

On March 30, 2008, former members of Journey's Management Team revealed that Steve Perry had recently played them demos of new material and that his voice was as good as ever. It was further added that at this time plans for forthcoming new material from Perry were not known.

Why would he be demoing new material if he wasn't working on a project?

"Word surfaced..." :?

If Steve actually releases a new album before the "first half of 09" is over,
I'l be very, very happy... but if this turns out to be wild rumor, or else
gets Hawaii-hipped into string-along limbo, I'm going to be sooooo fucking pissed.

omg, my last post was begging Steve to do something ... and now I see this! Let's see, lots of people have promised they would "do something" to themselves if Steve ever comes out with a new release. May be time to do post searches and call in the bets!

Haha ... this may just be another one of those heart-stoppers re SP we have encountered so many times over these past years ... only to wait and wait .... for official word.

It's a 2008 show. To quote the host Mark Goodman exactly, he said "Earlier this year, word surfaced that Steve was finally working on a new solo album. He said he'd like to release something by the end of this year or by the first half of 09". Taken in that context, I would say that VH1 Classic really didn't "confirm" anything. As always, time will tell.

On another note, what a stupid fucking show. They have David Lee Roth as one of the top 10 male voices of all time??? Really? Roth wasn't even the best male singer Van Halen ever had! Then they go on to rank Mick fucking Jagger, who wouldn't win a Karaoke contest, ahead of Steve Perry? ZERO credibility here, so I suspect that the Perry rumors are just that.

YEAH, I SAW IT TOO AND WANTED TO POST IT AS SOON AS I WOKE UP THIS MORNING!!

I taped the show and this is the direct quote:

Mark Goodman said,

"EARLIER THIS YEAR WORD SURFACED THAT STEVE WAS FINALLY WORKING ON A NEW SOLO ALBUM. HE SAID HE'D LIKE TO RELEASE SOMETHING BY THE END OF THIS YEAR OR THE FIRST HALF OF '09."

Word surfaced? From who? Is this really authoritative, that's my question!!?

I HOPE he wasn't just passing around rumors....

[
quote="Saint John"]I was just watching VH1 Classic and they confirmed that Perry will be releasing a new solo album at the end of 08 or in early 09. He was number 7 (I think it was 7) on their Top Male Voices Of All-Time.

If Steve was working on an album, or even a single, wouldn't something substantial have leaked by now?

Is it possible to go from having no management to releasing material without anything getting out during the process?

I mean, especially if you're Steve F. Perry! Somebody would be talking about what was happening, wouldn't they?....

Hey, I didn't mean to rain on your parade (or whatever it is you are doing wearing a raincoat and flashlight..... :D)

I just want someone to tell me, Yeah, of course, he probably made everyone swear to secrecy, and we all know how well Steve can keep a secret (remember the HWOF?) and he wouldn't want anyone to expect anything just in case he decided not to release the stuff he is working on......

That is what I want to hear....

Keep hope alive!
