no this is not worth watching... LENO rocks way better than Letterman anyway.

This is simply a matter of preference. Leno is a good Boston dude who I grew up around the corner from, but he's not half as funny as Letterman! Letterman is late night royalty the way Johnny Carson was. One of the funniest dudes on TV. Leno's monologues are usually awful and I very rarely laugh watching them.

Leno always looks like he's going through the motions. The jokes are weak, more like "groan" humor as Arianndu calls it.

I won't watch Leno unless there's a certain guest.

Letterman's monologue isn't always great but his delivery's better. His camera on the street segments are funny. Paul Schaffer's always good for a laugh.

The best monologues on late night are Craig Ferguson on the Late Late show. Conan's ok too. Don't see him bringin' the weird humor to the tonight show but we'll see. Can't be worse than Leno though.

um it matters because what type of guests he is getting... and leno still kicks lettermans ass... headlines and jay walking are priceless... now if Leno had Pauls band... WOW.


The Question becomes now as the tv year goes on, where is Leno going??? is it ABC??

For what it's worth, I'm fairly confident that the staff of Letterman's show could book ANY guest who they felt like booking. I don't believe for one second that somehow Leno gets better guests.

I agree that the headlines segment is funny. Jay Walking is his best segment. Every now and again he does "Working with the public" and plays some 911 calls. Probably the funniest segments I've ever heard on TV, but that has nothing to do with Leno or his humor!

I'm fairly confident that Leno is probably just headed to his garage to play with all of his cars. I suspect that if he wanted to stay on TV that he would have just signed a new contract with NBC. I never heard any stories that the guy was forced out, so it appears to me that he's leaving on his own volition and simply wants to retire from TV. I suspect that he will probably sign a contract for a long-term stand up gig in Vegas, as he's always continued to perform as a comic.

My understanding is that Leno hand picked Conan, as his successor. I never quite understood why NBC (or any network) would allow that, if it's true. I don't get Conan, AT ALL. Another Boston guy who has done well in his life, but I've never found the guy remotely funny. Then again, I've never found Bill Cosby remotely funny either. Even though I don't find Leno to be hilarious, he at least has his moments. I've never laughed at a single thing that Conan has ever said. I think Conan comes across as way too zany for mainstream late night talk, and I can't imagine NBC asking him to change who he is.

When he's not on his show, he's doing comedy gigs.

I was a huge Letterman fan until he took a partisan approach that ceased being funny when it took a turn to pure hatred/nastiness. Not sure why these folks want to risk alienating half they fans that way. I switched to Leno when that happened, although I rarely catch the monologue.

Not a clue - I don't recall anything like this on network TV. I thought it was a pretty good idea - why not? Nothing wrong with enjoying the music of tribute bands, I'm sure there's a lot of really good ones out there - I know I've discovered some just from reading this board.

Well it's no secret that Letterman and Carson had a very close relationship. I'm old enough to remember that at the time Carson announced he was leaving, he (Carson) wanted Letterman to be his replacement. For years everyone thought Joan Rivers would get the gig until she and Carson had a huge falling out. Apparently NBC wasn't the democracy back then that it appears to be today with the retiring host hand picking (at least that's what I've read) his successor.

I grew up watching Carson. That said, relative to JC, Letterman, Leno and O'brien suck. I think they're all bumbling dumbfucks that have to try to be funny. Carson just was.

I saw Super Diamond in San Diego in August. They were pretty damn good, even though I'm not a big Neil Diamond fan. They broke into "Lights" (part of guitar player intro and solo) and another Journey tune (can't remember what now). They nailed it. Mentioned influence from Journey and that they were from San Francisco. Wish they'd have stuck to that instead of going back to the Diamond stuff.
