Yep, I think it was THE first.

Lora/Cyndy, were you guys there? Anybody else? Was there a 3rd song?

Yes, CP and I were both there but didn't know each other at the time. The show was at the very intimate Warfield Theatre. They did two songs and if I remember correctly, Neal did a kick ass solo on The Party's Over. It was Jay Cain's (as everyone called him then) first live show with them. I was devasted over the departure of Gregg at the time, so was sad watching the new guy. Jonathan did a great job, though.

Gregg was actually there at the show and came up with the band when they accepted one of the several awards they received that night. He said something about Jonathan taking his place and told the audience "you're gonna love him." I haven't watched my tape of that show in eons but I still remember that. I think the reason you don't see clips of this on Youtube much is that it was only broadcast locally and that was back in the day when people didn't have VCRs yet. I had a friend who lived in the Bay Area and she taped it for me off the signal from her TV antenna (no cable then). Anyway, it was my first BAMMIES and I will never forget it. Everyone got dressed up to go to those shows and there was an after show party that the bands would attend. What great memories.

Wow, what great memories you two must have! Thanks Lora, love it when you gals share those old stories/memories. :)

He got the nick "Jay" when he was in the Babys. Too confusing calling him Jon since John Waite was also in the band. He was called Jay for quite awhile when he first joined Journey.

I am much too challenged to ever accomplish such a task. I could get my bro to transfer it from VHS to DVD. Maybe I could send the DVD to one of you savvy people to post on YouTube. I don't think the quality is great but it is still fun to watch.

That is one of my favorite performances by Journey ever. I remember watching it that night. They did two songs and were on fire! There were several of the band's girlfriends/wives, friends and crew in the audience. When SP runs up the aisle, he is singing to Sherrie who is sitting next to Steve Smith's wife, Susan. First time ever seeing this and wow, what great energy the band had that night. Wish they had done an entire concert and captured that night on film for all of us to enjoy.
