I just downloaded his whole album from iTunes. For some reason he thanks Steve Perry in the credits. That's always a plus in my book.

I heard some of the samples at Amazon. I like "Heroes" and a couple others.
I might pick it up.

I've gotten through all but 3 of the songs on the album and I freaking love it!

From Associated Press article on MSNBC.com:

Following the “Idol” finale, Cook jumped immediately into writing sessions for his album. He recruited Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo and a team of songwriters including Chris Cornell, Brian Howes and Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls.

Cavallo compares Cook to big-voiced former Journey frontman Steve Perry, who dropped by the studio while Cook was recording.

“He really is an unbelievably gifted singer,” Cavallo says of Cook. “There’s no song on the record that he didn’t sing in two or three takes. ... He can sing harmony to any of his songs automatically without even thinking about it.”

I liked it- looking forward to hearing more.

This is part of a review that was written yesterday by the New York Daily News' music critic, Jim Farber, in regard to David Cook's new cd:

"Now comes Cook's debut CD, which features the same faux growl and planed down, pseudo-Seattle power chords he showcased on TV. There's just one fiddle: "David Cook" presents an even more diluted take on that style.

Cook's recordings - some of which he co-wrote - reconcile the bottom feeders of '90s grunge (think: Seven Mary Three, only lower), with the detritus of '80s hair-pop (the later solo albums of Journey squawker Steve Perry)."

Ya, the reviews aren't really great for this CD, but I have never really given a crap what "professional" music critics think. I really like it. :D
