You know, I'm drinking and just watching the VH1 Classic top male singers, listening to the box set, but there's never been a band that can touch Journey for the complete body of work. Perry's the greatest singer ever and Augeri, Soto and Arnel kick ass too. Neal can't be touched, Jon wrote songs that will live for 100 years and Steve Smith is one of the 5 greatest all-around drummers to ever live.

From La Raza Del Sol to Faithfully, there has never been another rock band to do the huge spectrum of music that Journey has done.

I mean, I know we all have our small differences about what the band has done over the years, but can't we all agree?

Say it out loud................Journey is the baddest, most musical, most versatile band of all fuckin' time!!!!!!!!!

No band could follow them on stage and do the different amount of stuff that the boys did. NO BAND EVER!

We all have our preferences about what we wish the band had done or not done, but this band is unmatched in musical history!

Any other band.......line 'em up and bring em' on stage after Journey in their prime and watch them all fall by the wayside!

Agreed, SJ. A lot of the times I don't agree with what you post, but I fuckin' love the conviction of which you post it!

I'm a Perry made Journey guy and I know you're a Journey made Perry guy, but we both can agree, this band is unmatched in musical history.

From ballads, to heavier rock, to some Samba-Latin to Reggae. Who can name someone with this much musical talent, who ALSO took their sound to the top of the charts and sold over 75 million records world-wide?

I love this band and I love this board!

Even when I read a post and yell out "You're outta your fuckin' mind", I still love the knowledge and passion of the posters on this forum, which is, by FAR, the best on the web!

to me from 1978 all the way through 1986 they had a fine damn catalog and then the last twenty two years we have trial by fire,arrival and revelation as complete albums and each one is by a different vocalist.the lead singer spot has always been unstable although perry is the absolute best hands down.i wish they could've worked something out and be more friendly because if ever returns they could tour strictly on the 1978-1986 body of work that perry brought to the band.i'm not really interested in hearing any trial by fire material live if perry came back but if they did i have setlist below if perry rejoins and they do a big stadium tour and play songs from the classic 78-86 era....

my setlist for a reunited journey stadium tour with perry would be.....

I'm only comparing Journey's Escape line-up with Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger & Vital Signs line-up's

Lead vocals: Jimi Jamison vs Steve Perry...slight edge to Jamison.
Perry vs Bickler...edge to Perry...although Bickler was/is better than a lot of people seem to realize.

Guitar: Neal Schon vs Frankie Sullivan...edge goes to Schon for soloing...riffs and rhythm-playing go to Sullivan.

Keyboards: Jonathan Cain vs Jim Peterik...edge to Cain.

Drums: Steve Smith vs Marc Droubay...in terms of technical ability, Smith easily wins, but there are some aspects of Droubay's drumming that I like better.

Bass: Ross Valory vs Stephan Ellis...slight edge to Valory.

Songwriting: Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan vs Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry....slight edge to Peterik and Sullivan.

Overall: In my opinion they rank pretty much even. Neither one is far better than the other.

Just couldn't let my thoughts on "Baby, I'm A Leaving You" go unsaid.
That song is awful. It's shows the deteriation of SP's voice and I NEVER would have put that on the TBF album. He sounds like a croaky old frog on that recording.
I love SP, but that one song...NOT!

I said slight edge.

But yes, Jamison was/is slightly better. In all honesty, I'm as big of a fan of Steve Perry's singing as anyone is. But Jamison's singing is slightly more pleasing to the ear, and he has slightly better soul to his singing.

My dream band would have both Jamison and Perry on lead vocals. In general I'd have Perry (When he was younger) sing the higher range stuff, and have Jamison do the stuff that required a little more soul. But obviously they both have tremendous soul to their singing.

And by all rights, I consider Lou Gramm (When he was younger) to be extremely close behind both Jamison and Perry.

Absolutely. I gave Perry the edge in the AOR thread out of respect for the MRJF but Gramm's contribution to rock equals SP imo.

I agree, I've been listening to Survivor the last few days and more of my coworkers seem to know their songs better than Journey. Survivor's “Eye of the Tiger” is as much an anthem as DSB, and “The searh is over” blows “Open Arms” out of the water.

I have several friends who feel that Survivor are way better than Journey. Like I said, I don't think that either band is way better than the other.

And I do give an edge to TSIO over Open Arms.

Jimi would say that there are a lot of singers better than himself. In fact I have seen him say that. But I don't agree.

Some of his favorites are Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, Mickey Thomas, Paul Rodgers, Elvis, Jim Morrison, Bobby Kimball.
