If Neal wants to rip into a fuckin' extended solo then God Damn it...let him!!! You guys are becoming formatted and somewhat boring to your hardcore fans that go to multiple shows and would like some variation to the songs. The decision to do this is as fucking dumb as waiting for that big beaked asshole to tour for over 20 years!!!

But I totally agree. Some people have problems with bands recording to clicks in the studio; that's silly. But, live performances should never be synced to a click, that just sucks.

Deen can't play consistantly without a metronome. Anything Journey does with additional backing tracks is just icing on the cake. The only reason this was dropped with JSS was because there was an attempt to lower songs by a couple keys to accomodate his voice, and there was no BGV in key. Even then, Deen still played with a metronome.

Surely the technology exists for the best of both worlds - a click track for timekeeping / bg vocals and keyboard synchs, as well as the ability to start and stop synch tracks within a song when Neal wants to go off of the reservation and rip one up...

It's all so robotic when the band plays to a click track. Journey scrapes by with it because let's face it, you're really paying attention to 2 people in that band for the most part, lead vocalist and lead guitar. Sure Deen, Jon and Ross rock... but it's really a 2 man show.

I love it when Rush plays a few tunes without the click tracks, they really loosen up and jam. Complete with missed notes, dropped sticks, fucked up bass runs, but it's all so dynanic and live, it's worth it. 2112 is one of the tunes where they just cut loose and have fun with it. Same with YYZ. Geddy's face is priceless when he frucks up those solos.
