Why not? Practice, practice, practice...Jeremey wrote:Bullshit.

get a new drummer.A drummers job is to keep time period.Of course he covers lead vocals when needed{many times}Jeremey wrote:Saint John wrote:Time to lose this bullshit piece of complacent embarrassment. Bullshit.
Deen can't play consistantly without a metronome. Anything Journey does with additional backing tracks is just icing on the cake. The only reason this was dropped with JSS was because there was an attempt to lower songs by a couple keys to accomodate his voice, and there was no BGV in key. Even then, Deen still played with a metronome.
Their light show is about as exciting as fuckin' stomach cancer. Ditch the lights and play (what some of consider completely) "live."Jeremey wrote:Saint John wrote:Why not? Practice, practice, practice...Jeremey wrote:Bullshit.

30 years of practice still doesn't make you a machine. And those lights don't move by telepathy.

lol...that fuckin' creep isn't even missed. 26,000 happy faces in Chicago. Last time he was here solo he played at The Arie Crown. That dude is so overrated outside of Journey. He's a fucking anecdote...a joke. Journey is fine without him.bluejeangirl76 wrote:Saint John wrote: The decision to do this is as fucking dumb as waiting for that big beaked asshole to tour for over 20 years!!!

Without being too much of a prick I'd say you're discounting Deen's skills (something I did for a lot of years...til last year). You saying he can't do it "live" like I suggested?Jeremey wrote:Saint John wrote:Their light show is about as exciting as fuckin' stomach cancer. Hey, here's the big news....Deen plays like a motherfucker. He gets carried away. The click track is there for consistancy. I don't give a fuck if he's singing or playing "Dead or Alive," he would get a boner mid-song and begin to rush everything. NO ONE plays without click tracks these days.

Pont taken. I missed your point being about the lights....but fuck the lights!!!Jeremey wrote:Dan...
I'm telling you, Deen....As much as any drummer, there is not a machine built into them. They cannot synch the lightshow without a click track...Fuck the backgound vocals, Deen could sing them live all year long

Smitty, as much as being one of the best 4 drummers in the world, lost his gig with Journey in 1985 without being able to hold up to a click track. He will tell you as much

texafana wrote:Most "good" drummers hate click tracks and I would assume Deen can't stand playing to one. Too bad the guys can't all sing like they used to, they wouldn't need the friking canned vox and click shit. It's all so robotic when the band plays to a click track. Journey scrapes by with it because let's face it, you're really paying attention to 2 people in that band for the most part, lead vocalist and lead guitar. Sure Deen, Jon and Ross rock... but it's really a 2 man show.
I love it when Rush plays a few tunes without the click tracks, they really loosen up and jam. Complete with missed notes, dropped sticks, fucked up bass runs, but it's all so dynanic and live, it's worth it. 2112 is one of the tunes where they just cut loose and have fun with it.Same with YYZ. Geddy's face is priceless when he frucks up those solos.
Couldn't do, and didn't want to do, the click track.Jeremey wrote:Saint John wrote:Smitty quit his job back then and he told me as much.Jeremey wrote:Saint John wrote:Pont taken. I missed your point being about the lights....but fuck the lights!!!Jeremey wrote:Dan...

Why did he tell you he quit? Too much money?
texafana wrote:Mr. H, you are wrong. They like practicing to one because it helps improve their internal timing. Most professional drummers, we're talking the big wigs, not hired studio fingers, do not like click tracks in a live situation.
