Ann, as soon as you mentioned your ethnicity, for all intensive purposes, the racecard came into play and you blew your argument.

Believe you me Mr. Obama will be held accountable for doing a good or bad job while in office by people of color moreso than any other group of people in this country; which maybe a good thing or it may not; we will see in the long run. I don't see him as some savior of the black race, I see him as a man who said he want to try and fix a broken system (I say good luck to him ) he said he think that he can do the job and if there are black people who voted for him simply because he's black ( and I know there are many who did) then it's gonna be a sad day when it dawns on them that they actually voted for a man (and not just a black man) for president a man who has more than once stated that he is bacically for all the people, not just one group of people, and that's how it should be. :D

I know, and I would NEVER assume that every black person feels or thinks the same. Believe me I know. People are people and ignorance comes in all colors. That kind of was the sense from that evening though. Like he was being propped up because of his skin color. But I also felt the sense of pride everyone felt too, which I mentioned and I would never begrudge that feeling for anyone. I too hope he will be judged fairly for the man he is and what he can do just as any president should. It's going to be a tough road for him though. For so many reasons. And I hope the same things for him. I think that's why that girl making fun of my clap made me feel so bad. Because I KNOW how I feel about the president-elect and I thought it wasn't fair for her to assume things. And at the same time, I realize that there are people in this country who do that to black people everyday. I guess there is no easy way to fix such assumptions though. We are all products of our environment and sadly some people, of all races, are taught to hate.

I
don't know who you think you are, but you do not know me and you have no idea what I felt inside so don't speak for me or judge me. I was saying the way they are EXPRESSING their pride feels like Idolatry. It just seems weird to have pictures of a president and his family all over tshirts. That is the sense that I meant it in. Do NOT put words in my mouth. I was not uncomfortable within myself. That is BS. The ONLY moments I felt uncomfortable was when the MC said inappropriate and things that I felt were making fun of white people. And when a few people around us made us feel uncomfortable by things I heard them say and the way they looked at me when I clapped for Obama, and how she imitated me. That was ONE ignorant person who did that. I did not blame 10,ooo people for one stupid persons reaction. She made other comments too that made it clear that she wasn't too happy with white people. I did NOT imagine it. And I DID CLAP FOR HIM!!!!! You have no idea what you are talking about and obviuosly you did not read everything or you are not understanding what I am saying. It was INAPPROPRIATE things said that I would not clap for. Don't TELL me a black person can not be racist against a white person. I have experienced it on more than one occassion. The MAJORITY of the people there that night were wonderful, and I even said that. There were a few who were not. How would you know if I was welcomed or not? You weren't even there.
I am, a BLACK person ; one of the people you are so busy talking about without knowing about, telling other people what you think we black people should feel, think and how we should act, and you shouldn't speak about black people as if you know what and how we think and feel unless you have taken time to really learn more about the people you so openly pre judge.

I actually learned a LOT that night and I thoroughly ENJOYED myself which I thought I made clear. It was SO COOL seeing the bands dance and move the way they did and I have never seen anyting like it. We sat there for 4 hours, 3 of which were AFTER my son performed. I couldn't WAIT for the performances from the black colleges because I knew how awesome they would be and they WERE. The marching bands were AWESOME and the way everyone reacted to our "white" band was awesome too. I said that too. You chose to read more into what I said and assume that I felt things I did not feel. I only know what one ignorant girl in front of me did, and how she made me feel. And I know what that MC said, and he made me uncomfortable with some of the things he said too. This was a public event, not one only for black people, so I think he should have considered that when he chose HIS words. But obviously he was speaking to a majority and he didn't really care. He said things that were not appropriate and if you weren't there I don't see how you can judge my opinion. I still think it's weird to wear tshirts. But then I think my cousin is NUTS for having a magnet of George Bush on her refrigerator too. I am allowed to have that opinion. That is not racist to feel that way. I don't see how I pre-judged anyone. On the contrary, I was pre-judged by the girl in front of me. She ASSUMED because I was white I would not be happy that Obama got elected. She ASSUMED that I did not vote for him. That was as wrong as when white people pre-judge a black person. That was my point. Sorry if I offended you with my words.

AnnPea and StevePerryHair, both of you are very nice people from what I've seen on the board. That's all I've got to say 8) . Except, I don't see anything wrong with T-shirts with Obama on them. But that's just me. At least it shows pride in our country for whatever reason - Obama as the first black president or as an inspirational new young president who happens to be black. Peace.

I don't see how she blew her argument just because she mentioned her ethnicity. I think hearing her opinion on what I said I witnessed means more to me knowing that than it would have if she did not tell us. I am a big enough person to admit that I am most likely guilty of assumptions too. In that just because out of the 10,000 people attending, lots of people supported some ignorant things being said, doesnt' mean they all did. All of those people can't be responsible for what an MC decides he is going to make jokes about. For all I know, only half of them were clapping and cheering at some of that stuff he said. I should not have assumed either.

And if anyone ever gets the chance to see marching bands such as these do their thing, it is really fun. And I think I said earlier, what impressed me the most is that 10,000 people would not only show up to see their college marching band march, but also to sit through 10 high school bands and support them too. It was not a free event. It was $15 to $25 a ticket through ticketmaster, and it was sold out. That really impressed me. I was in marching band in a Pennsylvania and I can tell you not too many people cared about coming out to support us. It was a really great experience and I am not sorry I went, even with some of the negative moments I experienced. Incidentally, my son loved doing the hip hop dancing and I didn't think he could do it. (this is a son who loves guitar and 70's rock) I couldn't imagine him dancing to anything. His band had a blast! They were the only school that got a standing ovation, so Ann is right when she says our school was welcomed. They were. I just felt at times that I as an audience member wasn't.

But I guess I shouldn't assume based on a few dumb people. And of course the emphasis on Obama's skin color did worry me only because I don't want to see race relations get worse over this. When I looked at both candidates and made my choice, skin color wasn't even an issue to me. It was who did I want because of what they stand for and what they can do for our country. I want to believe everyone did the same, but I guess it made me feel like some people didn't with the things I was hearing. But then again, I know there were white people who did not vote for Obama only because he is black, just as some people voted for him just because he was. Maybe it evens out in the end anyway.

You people are gay. :D

So is your face! :D :P

I just needed to wash it. All better now.

Why CookieBot - you shaved!

Now I'm clean as a whistle (penicillin, the 9th wonder of the world).

Uh-huh.
The show's creators, who skewer everyone from Al Gore to drowning Katrina Victims with even-handed disdain, are now so-called "leftists."
Right.
What was "Team America" if not a gigantic Fuck You to Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin, and the bleeding heart Hollywood establishment?

The South Park guys are renowned libertarians, and many Republicans have even begun to identify themselves as "South Park Republicans."

If that's the case then I stand corrected. Maybe I was thinking of the Family Guy writers?

This is REALLY funny. Back a few years ago, Barb and a few others were quoting articles about "South Park conservatives". That quote "I hate conservatives. But, I REALLY fucking hate liberals." was even used back then. I'm sure you haven't seen Team America, where they blast liberal Hollywood...Or the dozens of South Park episodes where they blast the far left.

\The bottom line is EVERYTHING is a target for South Park. If you are a celebrity, in the news, or if people know who you are in any way, you can end up on that show - regardless of your politics.

That article was interesting...cuz my argument was always they were libertarian, and not strictly conservative. They want government out of our lives, totally...and they definitely do not like the "family values" bullshit of the Republicans.

Thanks for the clarification, Monker.
