This is based solely on crime statistics. In particular, rape, murder, auto theft, assault, robbery, and burglary.

13. Miami Gardens, Florida

You should watch the Soledad O'Brien special on New Orleans, ONE CRIME AT A TIME. Very fascinating and troublesome. I watched it after I determined the Texas Tech/OU game was out of hand, you know, about the first 5 minutes of the game........

Chicago was just named the murder capital of the U S a few weeks ago. I listen to Roe Conn on WLS afternoons and they were talking about it.

How is Philadelphia, which I still love BTW, not #1??

The crooked last administration allowed Philly to be turned into the bastard love child of Beirut and the wild west and allowed open season to be declared on Philly cops.

I was shocked by this too. I'm up in Bucks county, and would have bet on Philly being on this list. WTF's up with that!!!

The folks in Gary, IN are probably disappointed they aren't #1. It's about the only thing they have to look forward to after all. :lol:

Nah...They are probably proud of his criminal record except for that he just can't seem to get convicted unlike everyone else in that city.

Not surprised that my city made the list. (Memphis) Unfortunately it used to a great place to live...like 30 years ago.
Oh.......well. That's why everyone including me finally had to move away.

Former Clevelander, Cleveland and Detroit are a given, no longer a strong blue collar town like the days of old. Cleveland has either the most or highest percentage of homeless, which will increase crime. Youngstown is also a depressed area.

North Charleston is a scary area, but Charleston is one of the most beautiful cities in the country a hidden gem.

These kinds of lists are always a joke. One year they'll name a city as being the 8th most dangerous city, and then the next year they'll name the same city as being one of the safest cities in America, even though in reality nothing changed safety wise during that year.

Or while one list names one city as being one of the most dangerous, another list at the exact same time names that city as being really safe.

I live in Parma, Ohio, only about 2 miles away from the Cleveland border. I've spent as much time in Cleveland as I have in Parma in my life. Parma keeps ranking as being in the top 20 safest cities in all of America the last several years. And I can honestly say that in reality there isn't that big of a difference in safety between the two cities.

I played softball in Gary last year and was treated like royalty. There are some good people in that town. It's been devastated by drugs and thugs but there are still a lot of fine folks there. The captain of my team was mistaken for someone else and was shot in the head (but survived) but his sister was not as fortunate. I decided not to play there this year.
