Seems that this may corroborate Herbie's "Steve Perry has gone to all the best vocal coaches in the world and it's just not there anymore" statement. If that's the case, and I believe it is, I feel sorry for the guy.

I don't believe he's lost his voice. On TBF his voice was still really good, just diminished somewhat in range and a little scratchier. (Possibly vocal nodes?) But One More is great and so is Message of Love. Could he do a tour? Maybe not; I don't know. But unless something happened between 1996 and now, he should be able to put out a new CD and do some appearances - if he wanted to.

Yeah..he got 12 years older and unless he's practicing in secret, his voice got weaker and weaker from inactivity. To stay strong it must be used. I just keep leaning more and more to the "If he could sing he would sing" mindset. And that is, of course, relatively speaking.

I won't shoot you...lol. It's my thinking, too that if it doesn't happen in 2009 (when he turns 60!) then it will never happen. So, I guess I still have a little hope...at least, for one more year.

Damn it, Drew, if Steve doesn't even tell his own lawyer when he is going to show up at the HWOF, what would make anyone believe he would advertise his musical plans, even to a good "source?" I mean, the odds are he WON'T produce another note in this lifetime, given his track record, but I don't think it would happen except as a pretty complete surprise if he did.

Or is that totally naive?

Shit, it was nice to hope all the hype was possibly true......Damn it. where are my Prozac?...

Andrew, would it be safe for us to guess that Steve Perry is never going to put out any CD ever? He may record stuff, but it will never see the light of day for us fans to enjoy listening to?

Playing Devil's advocate here and I am fully aware that Perry isn't releasing anything this year other than his bowels but a CD could be manufactured and delivered to stores very, very quickly. This has been evidenced a few times in the UK with the X-Factor (like American Idol) winner decided by phone in vote on a Saturday night after which the CD single goes to print and is on sale in stores on the Monday morning. In the case of Leona Lewis the 'product' went on to become the biggest (or fastest can't remember which) selling single in UK chart history so mass production wouldn't be an issue.

Still it's never, EVER going to happen.

I'm sure the logistics were set up in advance for that though as it was easy to project a decent sell through for whoever won. Who want's to take that chance with Perry. Even Sony mewed his last solo effort.

Anything is possible, given time and money thrown at it. :D But some considerations:

1. The cost of manufacturing goes up exponentially, the shorter the timeframes. Yes, you absolutely can have a CD and a CD jewel case printed in two or three days vs. the standard ten or fifteen days ... but you could pay six or seven times the cost.

2. Many retail chains don't have open planograms. They often will take new product @ specific (pre-arranged) intervals and they may have a lockdown on how many new products they'll actually accept (not pre-arranged) during the busiest time of the year.

3. Even if it gets into stores, you have to market it. To get into the flyers for a place like best buy, you need to plan 8 weeks in advance. Yes, you might be able to slip in if someone else slips out/can't deliver stock. But again, it depends on luck and money.

Trust me on this (as I have experience getting product into retail for Christmas) ... it's possible but not as simple as Steve Perry showing up and saying, "guys ... I'm here. Stock up my CD!"

In the examples you gave, even if the winner was just decided, they had put plans in place to support ANY winner ... and had arranged it with everyone involved in the supply chain long in advance.

Uncle Joe, Randy Jackson, Lukather, Lora, and cyndy (anyone else?) have all heard SP singing demos this year, right? It just makes sense that he sing for us, too...why just them?...he knows we love him. That's my thinking. Why even let ANYbody hear unless it was possibly coming our way. 'Tis the season to be hopeful.

Exactly. There has to be some truth to what all these people are saying. I think he's bound to release something in one way or another. The question is when.

I'd be even be cool with a covers album. Seal just did a covers album and even included some Sam Cooke on there. I'm sure Perry would do the same thing if he did one.

So if he hasn't got any new material, why not do a press release that tells his fans, "I"M RETIRED! NO MORE NEW MUSIC".. Why keep stringing his fans along... We are grown ups and can take that news. I may not like it, but he has plenty of old stuff out there for me to enjoy.. That's what I don't get.. Why the cat and mouse game? Why keep teasing your fans... When I wear out a CD, I buy another..

Cuz maybe he's not retired? Why should he have to come out and say he's retired, who knows whether he may feel like putting something out down the road. Cat and mouse game? I would love new material from SP, but I don't feel like he's stringing me along. :? When/if he's ready, I'll be buying. But then I DO have a couple other stellar singers to keep my ears quite happy in the mean time thank you. :D

lol...some really unbiased sources there.  The only "proof" we have is that the man hasn't released anything or performed live in over a decade. I know this is hard for Loons, but common sense mandates that the guy can't sing anymore...or he would. I seriously doubt that Herbie Herbert made up the story about Perry going to vocal coaches and simply not having anything left.

Sorry, SJ, but your premise is flawed....Barry sanders retired at the top of his game. No doubting that he could still lite it up on the field.

Why can't people just get it through their heads that the guy just wants to be, not only left alone, but wants to be remembered as the 'voice' on those 'classic' cds. He is a self-admitted perfectionist, and wouldn't put any half-assed music out there. If he can't sing at the same level as before - he doesn't want to. Which is different than not being able to sing at all...
