Biggest Scrooge of all

Postby whirlwind » Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:37 am

I've been listening to holiday music all day and Perry is a shit for not ever having a Christmas song for his tons of fans. All
the beautiful voices of some of the best vocalists ever and the greatest vocalist of all is missing. He could give "Oh Holy Night" a sound that would make all other renditions meaningless, nevermind Josh G. It's hard to believe that with his voice, he never made the effort. It's a flaw no matter how you look at it, imo. Each year that the holidays roll around, I hope that this will be the year. You all can make all the excuses you want about this but he's a big disappointment to me in this matter. What could be so hard for him to do it?
PEACE!

HA HA HA HA!!! Nuthin' like "Open Chestnuts" and "Sherry Jingle Bell Rock" during the holidays to put me in a festive mood. :D

(Just don't show your open chestnuts in a bathroom stall of a Hawkeye football game with a female fan and get busted for public indecency.)

Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night" is my favorite version. The "fall on your knees" part makes me want to cry.

Whirlwind is right. So many artists have done Christmas albums. What would hurt SP to do just 1 song for us ... his faithful fans?

In my book, Johnny Mathis and Karen Carpenter are the king and queen of Christmas music done by conventional artists (and you can add a little bit of Burl Ives into the mix also)

Yep, got a chuckle out of Bill Clinton getting a kick out of JBJ's little Elvis move on the Blue Christmas one too. Cleans up nicely. :)

Um. Maybe re-re-re-recording a bunch of songs that have already been done 100 times wasn't his thing?
Maybe making a Christmas record wasn't his thing? Dude, who cares.

Perry can worry about a xmas album AFTER he does the Disney album I proposed earlier. If he can get that one out to us by 2010, I'll be very pleased.

He did a christmas song for Mark and Brian in the 80's I beleive. That is one of the things I have on cassette that I wanted to have converted so I could play it for all of you.......very pretty.........even though it was a kind of a tongue in cheek joke to the radio jocks. The words are on the thread about computer bugs that I put out yesterday. He sang it very beautifully, though you can tell he put it out in a hurry. He could definately make it very Nat King Coleish.

Awwwwww come on BJG. I wrote that I was disappointed, not mad. He always wanted to write the ultimate song and a new holiday song, sung with a full orchestra would have been a lot easier than trying to pull off a whole album filled with deep emotional output that any new album is bound to have by him. Someone is always breaking his heart in his songs so how about a holiday song about getting dumped over the holidays, lol.

I just knew that you would make up some excuses for him. I usually do that myself but in this case, I think that "After All These Years", it's the least he could do for the fans that find him irreplaceable and feel left hanging or waiting for the next shoe to drop or even left holding our breath.
Just saying that a great holiday song would do it for me.

You don't have to get offensive about this. I was not attacking you. Just saying................

Yeah I know... I'm not offended, nor am I being offensive (because I can't tell which one you mean by that...) but what you said was that he is "a shit for not doing it" and that "he is a big disappointment" and my point is that it comes off like you're overly bitter about it and holding him accountable for doing something wrong. Plenty of artists haven't recorded Christmas music, what's the big deal. So many of them DO do it that's its hardly special anymore anyway.

The whole Perry thing is in some ways a phenomenon I'll never understand. People get so involved in and upset about what he ISN'T doing and it makes no sense. Then when he does do something, its never enough, or its "more of the same", and people get upset about that too. He's about the only guy I can name who has done so much wrong and upset so many people without actually doing anything.

I could care less who puts out any new Christmas music, because there's so many great ones already. But someone gave me a Vince Gill CD as a gift " Let There Be Peace On Earth" years ago. I'm really not into country music, so I don't own his music. But this is my favorite CD for the holidays. It's so soulful and peaceful.

Yes, so many of the artists make a contribution to holiday music but they are not Steve Perry. Admit it! If Perry put out just one holiday song, you could hardly say that "it's hardly special."

"He's about the only guy I can name who has done so much wrong and upset so many people without actually doing anything.  [/quote]

Now that you mention it, it appears that way. I think that it's the "without actually doing anything" that is the problem. I wonder if there is a time limit on how long one can rest on their laurels? I know that it's my problem in that I can't seem to find anyone to replace him so there's the rub.
