I think almost everyone can agree that the best case scenario for Steve Perry coming
out of retirement would be a reunion with Journey - new music and a major tour!
It seems highly unlikely, although given the right motivations nothing is impossible.
Whatever their personal differences, in a 2006 Q&A on Fan Asylum, someone asked him out
of all of the artists he has worked with, who was his favourite to work with or inspired him the
most and he said 'Neal Schon'.

The frustration of many is that there have been rumours of a SP comeback or new release
every other week since he left Journey. In the 2001 VH1 BTM interview, he said he missed touring
and he'd been talking about it - well, it has been almost 8 years. But most of all, it's the passionate
hope of the fans (of either Steve Perry or Journey or both) that keeps fanning the flames. SP showed
up at the WOF for an afternoon and the next thing you know - OMG, there might be a reunion! We
get our hopes up at the slightest hint and then feel disappointed - well, that isn't
Steve Perry's fault.

At this point, maybe he is secretly recording in his studio putting together a huge compilation of new music.
It'll be held under lock and key on strict instructions to be released only after he is gone and titled
'Leave Me the Hell Alone Already' :P Seriously though, I think it is very likely that he is working on
something, but he must feel a huge amount of pressure for it to be a major success. And then there
is the question of a tour and whether he wants to take that on again, but maybe he is getting ready for
one last 'hurrah'. Who wouldn't want to experience that magic again? So many artists keep coming back
with second and third 'farewell' tours because they don't want to let it go.

I want nothing more than to experience hearing Steve Perry sing live and I envy all of you who were able to,
especially during the Journey years when he was on stage with Neal Schon. I think if Jesus himself
came back and wanted to be a rockstar, he'd sing like Steve Perry and play guitar like Neal Schon -
so I'm waiting with great hopes too!

Robert Plant did it right, a one off shoe for charity (live aid) and over 20 years later, one reunion show. No hints, no false promises, he did the shows and left.

Wow....great work Gin!!!

These threads just make me laugh. It's truly like Groundhog Day!!

My question is this.....when do the people that think he will never come out with anything major as far as new music or a tour get to say "I told you so"? They really have to wait until his funeral. And even then it wouldn't surprise me one bit to read a "My brother's ex sister in law works at the funeral home and she overheard someone say that he had a CD completed and it's going to be released posthumously."

They don't. They just think they do.

Madsplash, unless you ARE Steve Perry and are ready and willing to prove not only that, but the existence of this alleged release, then this is no more of a valid thread than the one million other Steve Perry rumor topics.

You don't have any credibility with this, especially with all this "we'll see". Half this board - hell probably most of it, are rolling their eyes at these threads.

 I'd bet Journey releases another CD before we hear any NEW material from Perry.

And one has to to wonder WHY(if this indeed is true), after all these dormant years, does Mr. Perry suddenly feel the urge to write and record again?

I'm not sure I get this obsession among many Journey fans about live performance. I mean...you see a concert for an hour and half...and hear the same songs you've heard a thoudsand times before...and then you go home. Big deal.

For me the album is much more important and if Perry's voice was put through a couple of effects...well, so be it. But you can't fake soul and even if Perry sounds like a rasping old man on forty fags a day his voice will always have that.

So I couldn't care less if Perry can't carry off on an 80--city tour. This isn't some talent contest we're talking about.

There are only two people that know for somewhat sure if he will, even if it is a gut. That person will not give me any info. So I have plans to send out a christmas package to them to butter them up.

In the end that person will still tell me nothing, as they ignored my last friendly email. But I will feel good about giving this time of the season and know that they are doing their job very well.
Even if I cried for three days and crawled up in a ball.
Meanwhile my sources, which is my shrink, said I need to learn to relax without meds so she gave me none. $135 A SESSION AND all I get to do is talk about how fucked up I am for an hour. Then I pay my $40 co-pay and enter the world still unrelaxed with heightened anxiety.

Then when someone says we will see new music soon I blow a main artery and nearly bleed out.

I don't get it either. Of course it would be NICE but come on. What I also don't get is the thing of "he owes it..." and "he doesn't care about his fans if he doesn't..." and "he can only prove himself by doing that or that or recording or performing live..." Why does he have to give a shit about proving himself? He did that 30 years ago when he walked in and made Journey something worth listening to. Not to say they weren't "worth it" prior, but they weren't exactly drawing hoards of people. He doesn't owe anybody shit.

I think that if you feel your sources are right, then why keep arguing with people here? They are just tired of being told his music is coming out, only to be disappointed. I wait for word from Lora and Cyndy. Steve knows we look to them for the latest from him, and I am sure he would want us excited about a new album. Meanwhile, why just stir up controversy? If your right, then your right and we will deal with that when the time comes. Seems combatitive to just start alot of fighting over something you might not be able to prove till next year.

The question at hand was whether or not he can still sing at a high level, and I merely pointed out that, for me, I will need to judge him by a live performance. Your answer really doesn't pertain to my question.

Matthew wrote:I mean...you see a concert for an hour and half...and hear the same songs you've heard a thoudsand times before...and then you go home. Big deal.
Albums never change, but concerts are all unique. Whether it's new music, a forgotten oldie, or the guy next to you puking on your shoe, concerts always offer something different with virtually every listen. I've been hard on Journey for the same set list and "click track" because it's taking some of that uniqueness away.

Matthew wrote:For me the album is much more important and if Perry's voice was put through a couple of effects...well, so be it. But you can't fake soul and even if Perry sounds like a rasping old man on forty fags a day his voice will always have that.

Again, very valid points, but no one is asking for an 80 city tour. I just don't think it's asking too much to perform a new song or two live. That's it. I mean, if you're putting something out that you can't even perform live is that even being an artist? Again, I'm just defending my position as to why it would be important for *me* to hear him sing again.

You first. All this "my sister said" b.s. is getting old. Seriosly, this is the third thread (that I know of) that you've posted and all you've ever said is that basically you "heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who...." ( ) You're going to have to come up with a whole lot more reasonable and substantial information than "this person said...." if you expect all these people to take this seriously.

I've heard the exact same things that you've posted from several places now, so what you're claiming to have heard isn't really new or shocking.

So... I suggest either pony up or let it go.

Best post of this thread. Cuts through the BS and makes the point. No unnamed source in my opinion is credible given what we know of Perry's history. Whether that comes from an anonymous poster, or a guy that has ties to the industry. Andrew posted a week or so ago, no new Perry music in 09. Now in this thread, it's 6-9 months, at best. Madsplash created a thread about the same time and claimed some inside info from a friend of the family, then when challenged he deleted abunch of his posts. Now he's back just to set it up so he can claim victory when/if Perry does something. Big F'n deal. Produce names or shut up and eat another turkey leg.

I don't care who's make the claim that there will be or will not be music coming from Steve Perry next year. I don't care if it comes from Andrew, Lora, or some un-named source 3 to 4 times removed. This is he or is he not coming out with something is very old. The "calling wolf" has me not believing anyone including Andrew. Until Steve Perry makes some kind of state to the press and I can read it there. I'm not going to believe anyone. I've had enough. Steve is a great singer. I'd love to hear something from him. I'd stand in a long line to get it. But I've been so disappointed in the past with this kind of stuff. I've chosen not to believe any of it anymore. I'm sure I'll get pick apart for this. But I've had my say.

Yes it has and while I do believe that Steve does love music and has been in the recording studio doing something. He's been doing that for years now. I see no change coming from Steve and that's where it needs to come from.

I don't have to do dick to satisfy your demands. I have sources because I don't rat them out when an over zealous fan questions my information.

The next release that comes out from the name Steve Perry will NOT be any new (or live) material. And there is no album of new material on the immediate horizon, meaning at the very least the next 6-9 months.
