I'm not very good with this stuff, so I hope these links work. I think someone mentioned
these in a thread quite a while back and they're on YouTube. There are three parts to
this interview of Journey in Japan on the 'Raised on Radio' Tour and the third part
gets into how Neal was somewhat left out of the writing process for the album- he jokes
that he should have added 'P.S. Thanks for letting me be in the band' in the liner notes.
They're all obviously pretty drunk, but having a good time together.

I've mentioned that one a few times, it's one of my favorites on ROR. I remember posting back when JSS was fronting Journey that would love to have heard his take on that one.

Depends on the arrangement. At the time that Chicago signed the deal, they'd just had 12 multi-platinum albums in a row and 20+ songs in the top forty. Columbia was probably terrified they'd walk. They didn't have to sell 120 million albums to get the rights. That was the flag that made them check to see why Sony was saying, "you still hadn't fulfilled" when that many albums had sold. Now that they own the rights, they license them out to Warner, which puts out greatest hits that combine the Columbia and Warner catalog.

Look at it a different possibility. Some artists have a clause where after so many years, they are given a giant lump sum payment based on projected royalties and forfeit all rights to further payment. I always wondered if Perry did this, getting a huge final check but losing input on what happens to the songs. It's hard for me to believe after so many years of being such a stalwart guardian of the music, he didn't at least mount a mild protest when Journey did the re-records. Everyone kept talking about an agreement he had that would expire soon where he would stop being paid when the band performed, maybe this what happened. Here's your buyout, now go away.

SherriBerry wrote:The debate continues as to whether 'Raised on Radio' is really Journey or the next
phase of Steve Perry's solo work and what I would like to hear are the original

were finished when he was informed that SP didn't like them and wanted to replace
Smith and Valory.

Sony has repackaged and put out Journey's catalogue in almost every other form - why not
this one? Even if it were put out only as a digital download, it stands to make money.

I would like to hear the originals and whether 'Raised on Radio' rocked like Journey with
the original band members - it may even be better than what was released.

This would not only be interesting but - it cant help but be good i think - probably more ballsy i bet. I would buy without hearing. Mind you i did that with generations and that bit me on the ass.............

Me too and I bought Generations recently! I wish I had looked up the threads on that one - the CD is
an indication that the band was not moving forward in a good direction at that point. I do love that
I get to hear Neal and Deen sing lead. If I couldn't listen to Steve Perry singing Journey's catalogue,
I would want to hear Deen rather than any other singer they've had, past or present - his voice is
beautiful!

Reviews on Z Generations have been very mixed. From loving (like me) to hating it. I thought Augeri did an awesome job on this cd, as did the rest of the band. Production lacked in spots (to the regular Journey standards), but by no means was production poor or average. Just when compared to other Journey cds, is production down, but not near as bad as RED 13.
Deen is a great singer and would have liked for him to have at least one song on this past new cd. But for me, all the singers have done good for the band. Would have liked a JSS vocal Journey cd, but on well, it didn't happen.
Perry, if he comes back or not, will have always have a place in Journey's history, as the voice that changed music.

I doubt there was anything suppressed. From all accounts Smith and Valory barely made any positive contributions at all to the project and were unwilling to join in an experimental process which - let's not forget - Schon and Cain began in the first place in 1985.
If, this is so then why is Steve the one always getting kicked around about it?
