Old singers that STILL have it

With all the debate over whether Perry still has it or not, why not share some of our favorite AARP-aged singers that still do it like they did in their twenties. Here's a few of mine:

Frankie Valli - This guy's still got it at 72! Granted, he's got ace backing singers around him, but you can tell he still sounds good. The tone is still there and he's definitely not hurtin for energy up there.

Dennis DeYoung - No doubt about this one. Just saw him in May and he might even sound better live now than he did back in Styx's heyday.

As much as I love Asia, watching that clip was as much fun as watching paint dry while getting a root canal at the dentist! :shock:

They're very weak live compared to all of the stacked vocals from their albums. I do agree though that John still has a great voice! :wink:

Yeah, their live harmonies sometimes leave something to be desired. They DEF. aren't using many canned backing vox, lol

When I saw Asia in '07 they used quite a few canned backing vocals, but since no one in the band can sing besides Wetton, I cut them a little slack. It certainly wasn't as noticable as Journey or Toto's though.

Guys (& girls) who've still got it, vocally:

* Paul Rodgers. He sucks at singing for Queen, but his voice is in phenomenal shape for his age....he sings "Wishing Well" as good as he did back in the day.
* Dio.
* Bruce Dickinson
* Ann Wilson
* Bruce Springsteen
* Jon Anderson (at least before he was too ill to tour)

Yea, I hear canned on the latest DVD, but like you said, they still sound "live," not blatantly "studio-ized" like Journey's or others'

Great call on Justin and Glenn. Saw the MB summer before last, great show. The BSG DVD is amazing too. Farnham rocks too, just don't know much of his work outside his LRB tenure.

Roland is one of my all time favorite singers.....I lost track of TFF after RATKOS, and didn't get to pickup ELAHE. I love Big Chair and SSOL so much I'm afraid if it wasn't very good I'd be too disappointed, and I didn't hear any "stop the world" quality tracks from the samples I heard. Nonetheless, a fantastic singer.
