Leno Signs New Deal With NBC

Postby Jana » Tue Dec 09, 2008 2:41 pm

He will do a primetime 10:00 show Monday through Friday similar to what he's doing now. He was being approached by other networks, and NBC didn't want him competing against them. How will this work out, though, in competing for guests. Now it will be Leno and Conan, on the same network, vying for guests, and then whoever replaces Conan at 12:30. There's only so many celebrities and the like to interview.

This is totally fked and I feel sorry for Conan. He was really excited to be hosting the tonight show, and now he STILL has to follow the most boring man in show biz. Leno, news, then Conan. Can't we just say goodbye to the ugliest boring man in showbiz once and for all? ugh...

I think this has to do with Max. max is destined to follow the Springsteen tour. A new tour was throwing mega wrenches in NBC's schedule. I know Bruce wanted to see how Max would fair but who knows now. I would say Max quits outright Conan now. Seriously, this throws off the entire Workin' on a dream Tour. Max is a winner either way, as he gets paid much more by Bruce than Conan, but maybe he likes the night TV stuff. Reports of a disgruntled Bruce guitar tech that "only received 6 figures" in a departure case, lends me to believe Maxy will join the E Street Band for a tour.

No doubt. WHY do people like Leno so much... BORING.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I'm a Letterman viewer. But Conan can't be happy. Won't he lose some viewers b/c the guy he replaced, who had great ratings, is on earlier, and if you watched it, you probably won't want to see another just like it almost right after, or is it a totally different audience: Early to bed versus late night people? Of course, I've watched Letterman and Ferguson back to back many times, and it's fine. So maybe I'm wrong.

I don't like this. Jay Leno is getting a show at 10ET/9CST, right in the prime time drama spot. So NBC is no longer doing real shows, or what? Well, thankfully CSI:NY is on CBS. :D

LENO ROCKS.. an hour of Jay walking and Headlines!! Guests will do any interview they can so no problem there.. I mean they go on Ellens show for god sakes... the cool thing is if he has bands on we get to see them at 955P CT not at 1130P... GREAT.

Who gives a fuck? He's a damn idiot. I have probably only watched his show twice in my whole lifetime. He is the one of the worst comedians I have ever watched. I figured the only reason he is still on the air is because old grannies like to watch him.

texafana wrote:Can't we just say goodbye to the ugliest boring man in showbiz once and for all? ugh...

Agreed. They should have sent him packing instead of signing a new deal with him.

brywool wrote:No doubt. WHY do people like Leno so much... BORING.

I have no idea. His jokes are lame, and he seems fake and plastic. I cannot connect with him at all. Plus I can't stand watching that black guitarist kiss his ass all night laughing at jokes that are not even funny.

I like Leno and Conan both. I think this is a raw deal for Conan though. I don't know why Leno would want to stick around with NBC after they fucked him. He's been ripping them time and time again on air since the "retirement" was originally announced. Money talks I guess

It's John actually... but not as in Saint John... although my post on this issue probably sounded like one of his. He never holds anything back.

Where's he been lately anyway?

Part of this may have to do with scaling back programming hours at NBC.

The positive to this is that Leno now will be held to a much higher standard in regards to ratings. If the show sucks, the ratings will suffer and NBC will have to do something about it. I don't see it lasting longer than a year.

Leno has just pulled the rug out from under Conan O'Brien's feet.
What's the purpose of passing the torch to your late-nite successor, if you intend to be just as omnipresent on the network, if not more?

I agree. Despite what's been said, he's basically taking the Late Night show with him into primetime, along with concomitant higher advertising revenues.

If the economy continues to sour, and advertising revenues slump, NBC will dump Conan and keep Leno, all else being equal. NBC is already talking about scaling back programming. "Why effectively support two Late Night comedy shows?" they'll ask.

This economic bubble bursting is going to have a lot of casualties by the time it's over .....

The article I read said talk shows are much cheaper to produce than dramas that usually air in that time slot. And it went on to say that 50% more people are watching TV in the 10pm eastern slot than an hour later.

Leno just said on TV they won't fight over guests. That he and Conan will work it out, about who gets what guest and to not do the same guest within a few weeks of each other and not ask the same questions. But he said there will be no problem. Oh, sure. Right. Uh-huh, if you say so, Jay. Poor Conan. Now he has to fight for the usual A list celebrities with competing shows and now Leno on his own network.

It's not just Leno and Conan duking it out, what about Jimmy Fallon who replaces Conan's vacated spot?
Block prgramming three late nite shows at a stretch doesn't seem to make any sense (business or otherwise), but whatever.

Lots of Leno hate on this board! I like the guy - mostly because he seems down to earth and he's not a whacked out liberal like the rest of Hollywood.
