Sooooo......who's gonna win??

Tebow looks to become second two-time Heisman winner
Associated Press

Updated: December 10, 2008, 7:31 PM ET

NEW YORK -- Tim Tebow will go for two against a pair of talented quarterbacks from the Big 12 when the Heisman Trophy is handed out Saturday night.

Sam Bradford from Oklahoma and Colt McCoy from Texas joined Tebow as Heisman finalists announced Wednesday.

Tim Tebow was the first sophomore to win the Heisman last year and is trying to become the second player to win it twice.
The last time all the Heisman finalists were quarterbacks was 2001, when Nebraska's Eric Crouch won the award and QBs held the first six spots.

Tebow, the rugged and multitalented junior from Florida, was the first sophomore to win the Heisman last year and is trying to become the second player to win it twice.

Archie Griffin won the Heisman as a junior in 1974 for Ohio State and again in 1975.

Tebow's Gators will play Bradford and the Sooners in the BCS national championship game Jan. 8 in Miami.

Tebow became the first college football player with 20 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns in 2007, carrying a Florida team that finished 9-4.

This season, Tebow's stats were down, but his play has still been stellar. He is fifth in the nation in passer rating (176.7) with 28 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. He hasn't been asked to run as much this season, but still has 564 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns.

Most importantly, the Gators are 12-1 and a victory away from their second national title in three seasons.

Heisman = No Title?

Two of the three finalists for the Heisman Trophy are quarterbacks playing for the National Championship. It's worth noting that winning the Heisman is not necessarily a good omen for the team's chances to win the national championship. Of the 27 previous quarterbacks to win the Heisman, just seven won the national championship that same year.

QB to Win Heisman, Consensus
Nat'l Champion Same Season Year QB School
2004 Matt Leinart USC
1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida
1993 Charlie Ward Florida State
1964 John Huarte Notre Dame
1947 John Lujack Notre Dame
1943 Angelo Bertelli Notre Dame
1938 Davey O'Brien TCU
"Tim is a winner," Florida coach Urban Meyer said during a news conference in South Florida with Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops to promote the national title game. "He wants to win. He's motivated like all of us are. But he's a team-first guy. That's why statistically he might not have the Star Wars stats like he had a year ago. However, he won 12 games. And if he could have either-or, he's going to take 12 wins and the chance to hold that crystal ball."

Tebow made a strong final case to win another Heisman, leading Florida's 14-point fourth quarter and comeback 31-20 victory in the Southeastern Conference title game against Alabama last Saturday.

Bradford has directed the highest scoring team in major college football history, leading the nation in passer rating (186.3) and TD passes (48) while throwing for 4,464 yards.

The Sooners have scored 702 points and became the first college team in 89 years to reach 60 points in five consecutive games when they won the Big 12 title 62-21 over Missouri last Saturday.

"Players just follow him because of his commitment to them and how tough he is and how important the team is to him," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said.

McCoy, who had the imposing task of following Vince Young as Texas' starting quarterback, has turned out to be a multiple threat much like his predecessor.

McCoy set a major college record with his 77.6 completion percentage, breaking the mark set by Daunte Culpepper for Central Florida, and is the Longhorns' leading rusher with 576 yards and 10 touchdowns. Texas finished 11-1, with a victory against Oklahoma.

Heisman organizers generally invite three to five players, based on vote totals.

Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell was surprisingly not invited to the ceremony, to be held at the Sports Museum of America in downtown New York for the first time.

Harrell, the latest in a long line of prolific passers to run coach Mike Leach's Air Raid offense, leads the nation with 4,747 yards passing and has thrown 41 touchdown passes. He also led Texas Tech to a school-record 11 victories and a tie for first in the Big 12 South with Texas and Oklahoma.

Alright heres the deal. Ole Miss caught Florida when all they thought all they had to do was show up. Egos were bigger than ever in Gainesville. The Gators found out in the SEC you have to bring your "A" game each week, this couldve happened to anyone. After this loss is when the famous "Tebow Speech" occurred. And since then Florida has been remarkable and unbeatable. I think Ole Miss should know if they played us again they would stand no chance. I think everyone in the country knows this as well. We slipped up and paid the price of an undefeated season. Now, lets go win the Heisman and then the NC.

Enjoy it dude. If it makes you happy, well then that is a good thing I guess. However, if Florida loses, I will be all over your ass like stink on shit.

Yeah of course I saw that. I watch ESPN 24/7.

Dude, you don't need an O C. Your offense sucks. You just have incredible athletes. It's like, "here is a QB draw. Try to stop it." And hardly anyone can. A Very simple offense IMO.

All Meyer needs to do is recruit recruit and recruit.

I've never had a kidney stone, but I hear they're awful. I was at the hospital one time, having an upper GI done, where you drink that white shit, take an x-ray, wait 45 minutes, take another x-ray, wait.... etc. The majority of the time I was there, I could hear some woman, sounded like she was out in the hall from where I was, she was moaning and groaning the whole time. LOUD!! Finally I asked a nurse what was wrong with her, and you can guess for yourself what it was. I thought right then and there, if I ever get a kidney stone, someone just shoot me! I hope you're doing better.

God Bless you Deano!!!!

I told myself two days ago I would stop visiting this forum because I was tired of not have the balance you provide against the tsunami of right-wing posts.

AND THEN YOU ARISE FROM THE ASHES LIKE A PHOENIX!!!

You have restored my joy.

I'm an easy going guy.... I love everyone. But just for the record... all you right-wing hacks that bashed Obama for months can eat a fat one.

And for the record... :-) screw football. You want a real SEC team Scarab???? How 'bout them Cats!!!!! They are what... just the most winningest DIV1 team in history. Pretty fucking cool. (and to avoid any firestorm, I am a Tubby fan, always have been.)

Damn straight. Graduated from UK, worked at UK, forever a fan.

Welcome back Deano, please send me a PM, I miss you and we never knew each other.

No idea what the beef is between you and Andrew.

but please don't come back just to antagonize him and get yourself kicked again.

You are too fucking funny, smart and integral to the enjoyment of this board to fuck it up.

Andrew, you seem like a pretty laid back guy.... chill.....

Beef? With Andrew? LOL, oh no no no. Seriously, we are gay lovers and are connected by the miracles of cyber. When he feels down, he IM's me and when I feel antsy, I buzz him. Works well I think.

Thread of the year!

After reading the first six pages, I had an unexplainable rush of excitement fly through me. Just how can I brighten someone's day? I decided to go knock on my hermit Hindu neighbor's door and convinced them to don their parkas and make snow angels. While it mussed up Raji's rin tin tin haircut, he didn't seem to mind, while in his frolicking glory. I have never seen him this giddy in his ten years of living next door to me! Upon completion we broke out the karaoke machine (his wife's version of Minnie Riperton's "Loving You" from '75 was a hoot!) Booze wasn't needed, as we had the finest Earl Grey blends. We concluded the encounter with a viewing of a nice european football contest.

Tommorrow I hope to brighten someone else's day. Thanks Deano!

I told myself two days ago I would stop visiting this forum because I was tired of not have the balance you provide against the tsunami of right-wing posts.

AND THEN YOU ARISE FROM THE ASHES LIKE A PHOENIX!!!
