After all these years on the Lowe's playlist

Postby tj » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:29 am

I was walking though Lowe's yesterday and heard After All These Years on the internal Muzak soundtrack. Perhpas this gets the band some more exposure to people who wouldn't necessarily otherwise listen.

I was at the rental car station at DFW today and it was playing there too. It was the first time I'd heard anything from the new record in a public place.

I didn't know this thread was about a song until opened it. I Remember the buzz here when it came out but never heard it on the radio or anywhere else so I forgot about it until they played it at the GREEK and then I forgot it about it again. I wonder if any Country music stations played it. It definitely has a country twang sound going on.

I heard it at a local restaurant in Cleveland a few weeks ago... mighta been satellite, not sure. Cleveland's 98.5 WNCX classic rock station played Never Walk Away quite a bit through the summer

It's currently been in heavy rotation on an FM station in my area.

Same here when I heard it today. I was with 3 coworkers and told them to shut up and listen. They were wondering what it was I was having them listen to, they paused for a second and then continued what they were doing. They think I'm nuts anyhow.

Did they think it was shitkicker music or rock? It's really got that "My dog got ran over and my wife ran off with my friend but I got my guitar and this here bottle of whisky and I'll be fine" kind of vibe.

OK, people. So we have:

Lowe's
Rental Car counter
Healthfood Store
Greek
Restaurant
FM station
Mall
With Co-workers

Anyone see a pattern here? What's the common theme? There must be some diabolical plan (probably involved Sony and/or Perry  ) to have this song played in these specific locations at just the moment we - the true Journey fans - were there. What am I missing? It is probably so obvious that I can't even see it!

Didn't someone say, a few months ago, that they heard it playing on a cd in their car?

It should be a country song. Some of us debated that a few months ago.
Dottie West and her drummer sang a similar song back in the 70s called 'After All This Time'.

I've been giving that a LOT of spins lately. ACDC put out a monster record. I love it.

Yep, I also heard AATY in my local P&C supermarket a couple days back while waiting in line. As soon as I heard the first couple notes, I couldn't help but grin. You might laugh, but I have heard so many tunes over Muzak systems in stores that I really liked and had to do a web search on key lyrics or the chorus to find out who it was upon arriving home. At least in my case, I've purchased several CD's that way.

Always amazed at bands that should be getting massive airplay on radio only being heard via this method. The Corrs are one of my all-time favorite bands, and one of the most radio-friendly acts out there, and the only place I hear their stuff is in stores or in movie trailers. In the rest of the world, they are huge, and here in the states they can't get airplay. Insane!

Exactly. They are so good, it baffles my mind. US music radio blows. Maybe that's why terrestrial radio is just about history.

Hope big titted Angie doesn't see this. :)
