Questions for Longtime Posters

Postby SherriBerry » Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:31 pm

I'm pretty new here, but I've already spent too much time reading old threads and
still have questions! So for the benefit of all the Newbies, I thought I'd ask a few:

1 - Why does stevew2 hate Jon Cain or at least have a very unusual fixation
about him? (SteveW?)

2 - Why does Tito love Jon Cain as much as SteveW hates him? (Tito?)

3 - Since this is a Journey forum, I was wondering why there is such a hate-on for Neal?
Does anyone actually know him more than in passing (besides Jeremey, JSS,
and Andrew who have not said anything negative that I've read) and did he pee in
someone's cornflakes or steal their girlfriend?

These are all very good questions, and I'll try to answer them as best I can with the information I have.

In regards to question 1. If it wasn't Cain it would have been someone else. Steve just likes to make people laugh, and Cain was an easy target. According to Herbie Herbert, Journey's long time manager, Cain isn't the most scrupulous person. So he deserves it, right? Cain is a great writer, especially on the ballads, so he must be gay right? That's what I gleen from it all anyway. He's just an easy target for Steve.

In regards to question 2. Tito, one day, decided to take it upon himself to be the proponent of everything Jon and Neal, mostly Jon. They're homies, so to speak. I honestly think it's all just a show. It's more of a devils advocate thing than any honest fanship or admiration.

In regards to question 3. Neal is the leader of the band, so it's gotta be all his fault that SP, Augeri and Soto lost their jobs, right? He's been married numerous times and has children by different women, so he's got to be the typical rockstar womanizer, right?

Those are the things I get from all of it anyway.

I take offense to that!  BTW, I think Stevew2 really deep down worships Cain. He probably has Cain underwear and pillow cases! It's a love-hate relationship, where he loves Cain, but since he knows he can't have him....he hates him!

Neal completes Journey, and you'll get no Hating on Neal from me! Who gives a shit how many times he's been married? It's not costing ME any alimony.

It's a love/hate relationship. I love Neal's guitar playing and work ethic, and Journey may have never existed without him. But sometimes he makes decisions that aren't all that popular with Journey's fans. Plus, it's pretty well known that Neal likes to squelch any criticism of himself and the band. This becomes very obvious if you ever visit the official Journey forum (which I haven't been to in over four years). Because we have freedom of speech on this forum (with limits of course), we can talk freely about Neal and not worry about getting banned from the forum.

No hating on Neal from me either. SP was tired of being part of the band long b/f the hip issue. I don't blame Neal. I don't blame Steve P. either. They lasted longer than most bands.

Steve Augeri had voice problems for quite a while. He wasn't treated badly by Neal. They hung in there with him for a long time b/c he was their bandmate. I believe they probably had a great relationship. But some fans believed Neal toured Steve A's voice into the ground. That may be true; I don't know. But he was with them a long time, and was singing in a range consistently that probably was going to create wear-and-tear on his voice no matter what. It was a matter of when. He's financially secure b/c of those guys.

JSS probably wasn't right for Journey's classic hits, and their desire, since they're basically a touring band, was to honor that as best they could with a tenor voice, instead of a new direction that Jeff would have brought with new music. But he was friends with Neal from SoulSirkUS and really helped that band in a pinch in a big way and did a great job, and Neal and Jon should have man-upped and have given JSS the respect he deserved, in the fact that after JM handled the dismissal in a respectful way (without leaks) and the legal aspects of it, they should have sat down and talked to him and given their reasons. He deserved no less from Neal and Jon (especially Neal). So I get the bittnerness over that and why that would linger for some fans. His marriages? That's his problem.

But I'm a fan of Journey and Neal and the music and feel they're going in the right direction, and I'm happy they're still touring and going strong, hopefully, for a few more years to come.

Jon Cain and Tito. Well, I believe he really is that wild over him. But I can't figure Tito out, so there may be some exaggeration on his man love for Jon  .

Jon Cain and SteveW. Well, I'm still trying to figure that relationship out   .

These are only my opinions.

I'm pretty new here, but I've already spent too much time reading old threads and
still have questions! So for the benefit of all the Newbies, I thought I'd ask a few:

1 - Why does stevew2 hate Jon Cain or at least have a very unusual fixation
about him? (SteveW?)
ANSWER (after a concert in maryland a few years ago, stevew got backstage passes. He ended up alone in a corner talking to Jon. stevew had to confess his undeniable love for jon by offering him a cornhole. Jon declined, thus hurt, stevew lashes out with a spiteful love gone bad.

2 - Why does Tito love Jon Cain as much as SteveW hates him? (Tito?)
answer (because in the 96 when you love a woman video, other than Perry who was #1 of course. Cain was #2 on the hottness scale with his long hair. Tito has never reovered from that private moment.

I cannot answer that question for anyone. Maybe they got backstage passes and met him? Or maybe these people could never grow a fro and they hold a grudge!

There is selective agreement when it deals with what Herbie has said in past interviews. If it's derogatory towards Perry, than Herbie is a spiteful blowhole. If it's derogatory towards Cain, than it must be gospel because Herbie said it. Hypocrisy reigns supreme around here, just have a pair of wellies handy so you can wade through all the bullshit. Just take this place for what it is, entertainment, and you'll never be disappointed.

Whether or not you believe what HH said about any of the band members, he was certainly there, and while it might be colored up, there's got to be some truth to some of it.

While any or all of it may or may not be factual, his interviews sure make for good reading.

He was very cool backstage when I saw them with Def Leppard. JSS was a very nice guy to meet, and very gracious as well. I enjoyed meeting them. Of course...maybe Neal was just being overly nice to us because he was courting Jeremey. Who knows? It was funny because he was eating a bowl of some kind of green curry dish the whole time he was talking to us. Very cool night!

Thanks for the enlightenment - I was really curious (or confused) about the Jon Cain
hate/love dynamic!

With Neal it seems to be hit or miss - people who have met him have either found him to
be very nice or rather rude/standoffish, so I'm not sure why that may be. I did like the
afroenvy theory!

I think the sour antics with whiney Cain & Schon showed their lack of manhood. I never got Augeri and clearly Cain writes mush since Perry left. JSS was someone I would see again and probably could have added to the writing. But again, certain slithery dees came out of the sea and canned him in a juvenile jealous fashion. They would have to hire God or Perry to come back to get a dime from me.

[/quote] I am not a longtime poster on MR, but I am a big fan of Journey. I think Neal will always have a love/hate relationship with his fans.He is Journey and as the leader( come what may)he will be the fall guy for everything good or bad that happens with the band. Neal will most likely be treated with a love/hate fan relationship as long as Journey exists and beyond; to me that's just one of the pitfalls of being the leader of anything. A lot of shit has gone down involving Journey with Neal Schon at the wheel; good, bad or indifferent he was and still is the captain of the Journey ship and depending on which window one views the situation he's either the victim or the villain. I love Neal Schon's mad guitar skills with a passion and I love Steve Perry's singing skills with an equal passion; that blend is what attracted me to the band in the first place. P.S Steve Smith's awesome drumming techniques kicked it up a notch also.( My three walk on water band members   )
