Just saw JSS with TSO.....

Postby Foolish Heart » Tue Dec 16, 2008 7:40 am

I know that I don't post a lot - I prefer reading everyone else's, because I am a sensitive sort (I bruise easily lol) - however - that being said.......

I will admit that I am a perry loon - in my eyes, no one can sing his songs but him. He has a voice no one can come close to. I never had the desire to listen to his other three replacements. While I have listened to Augeri and Pineda, I do not personally care for either one of them. That being said, I have to admit that last night I saw and heard JSS (for the first time) with the Transiberian Orchestra and I was totally blown away by his magnificent voice. Talk about powerful!! I thoroughly enjoyed his version of Hark the Herald Angels. Not only does he have a powerful voice, but he is a powerful looking man himself. The crowd went crazy for him, as did I. My point?? Like I said, no one can sing SP but SP, but after listening to JSS, I believe Journey was really really stupid in letting him go!!! Sure, he may not sound like SP, but his voice is so powerful that I think he would sound amazing singing SP songs. I am now a fan and will spend some time YouTubing him and taking the time to listen to him sing some of the Journey songs that I have resisted in the past. I wish now that I would have paid a little more attention to what went down between him and Journey.....

Anyway --- A great job last night, JSS - this is a great venue for you. I wish TSO would have given you more of an opportunity to sing more songs with them. Maybe next year, they will. Hopefully you will be with them next year because I would have loved the opportunity to meet you.

A new fan of yours,
Linda

That's great to hear Linda. I couldn't agree more about Soto's talent, he could front many bands. It's cool that you got to see him live, and in a setting like that.

A lot of the die hard Perry or Augeri fans didn't want to give him the chance, and you may or may not have been one of them, but I wish all of them could take a lesson from your post, and try to look beyond Perry to give Soto a chance. I guess that's all water under the bridge now, but the same goes for Arnel. Lot's of people don't want to give him a chance because they don't want to hear anyone else singing Perry's songs. To me that's just closed off thinking. But hey, people have a right to live however they want to.

Thanks for the post Linda, it's always good to hear positive remarks about JSS and to know he's out there, busy making new fans.

Yes, Rick, that really was the main reason for the post. I admit I was wrong in not giving him a chance. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to hear him and see for myself.

No reason to. All of that was true... Jeff does an amazing job even with just one (solo) song.
When I saw it, I sat there like  "Dude, is all that power coming out of ONE guy?!"

Great to hear. Here's a youtube to start ya off. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDtHpo3I5vc I'm a major Perry fan too, and JSS totally won me over (when he joined Journey) with his soulful/passionate vocals. Jeff does an amazing job with TSO! Speaking of which, TSO (with JSS) are on Bob Coburn's Rockline tonight...........

Jeff will be performing "Prince of Peace" & "Good King Joy".

Rockline Radio presents the "Rockline Rockin' Holiday Concert Special" with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA on December 15th. An encore presentation is scheduled for December 17th.

Rockline, the nationally syndicated radio show with host Bob Coburn, airs at 8:30 PM (PT) / 11:30 PM (ET). For a station near you and for information regarding how to log onto the Internet for the broadcast go to RocklineRadio.com.

Soto sounds great in TSO. His power in the lower range fits the songs perfectly. He's pretty much a baritone and he has an almost haunting resonance to his voice which conveys a good amount of emotion into the songs. I heard none of that in Journey as far as the pre-Frontiers songs went. Frontiers and beyond (no pun intended) he sang pretty well, but songs like DSB, WITS, LTS and others sounded like poo poo.

Disagree on the LTS part. I thought he did great on that one. Next best to Perry IMO, brought it with the sexy bluesy swagger it deserves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UR2hw6AsAI

I hope that this starts him on his way to more guest appearences like this. Where did that voice come from?I don't remember him using it quite that way before. He looks great in tux.

Listen it's free!

JSS is on
Prince of Peace
Even more chills running through my body!!!!
I'm tearing....

Ohhhh it;s glorious!!!!

Recorded live at the KLOS 95.5 radio station

Wow, they did this performance live between the Thursday Las Vegas show & Friday Anaheim show!
No wonder they didn't have time to do a meet n greet as they were on the road & did 3 shows in 24 hours...

Then they drove down to San Diego just about as we were driving down to San Diego to catch that show.
I think we all were a bit tired for that show but you would never know it from the energy & exhuberance of JSS's performance!

Jeff was stellar & so sweet at the meet n greet though I think we all were a bit tired...

Listen its Free!

Jeff sang "Good King Joy" on Rockline, too! JSS is awesome! It was amazing to hear parts of the show again! Rockline will have the show streaming for two weeks, if you missed it. 8)
