No controversry at all. I'm just tired of the mention of him. He's done very little in the last 22 years to warrant this attention.

Very little except for making Journey what it was and giving us all reason to be here bitching at each other.

Cain is the reason we are here! His songwriting brought Journey to the level that has us talking about them almost 28 years later.

Shame his song-writing genius didn't give the Babys any longevity or the post-Perry Journey any truly independent success. Take Perry out of the equation and Cain's shortcomings become all too clear...

Take a look at the printed out lyrics of his solo stuff, or take a listen to any of it, and the shortcomings are clear. I gave that crap an HONEST listen, and I have a witness that I did so. And I still maintain his lyrics are dogcrap.

You need to listen to Windy City Breakdown. And the Baby's greatest hits (especially Cain era songs) are very good.

Friga writes sappy shit. Weddings this, lost photographs that, kiss here and a forgotten love there. Jesus Christ, write a song that has a worthwhile mention already! Write something that has teeth. Write something that will cause a conversation to break out, and provoke some back and forth talk rather instead of an argument of whether Neal's solo was too short or too long. Write some lyrics that mean something! God, he sucks!

Good God, people, how easy is it to dissect. It's all of them together that is the reason we're here. The creative spark between Neal, Jonathan and Steve Perry, with Perry's voice, is what made Journey's music so fantastic and successful. (Rolie's input too earlier.) Steve Perry alone, without Neal's influence, is somewhat too schmaltzy for me for album after album.

If Journey hadn't had Perry, few would be here, and vice versa. If Perry's legacy was solo, with Street Talk, a few shelved songs of Against the Wall and For The Love Of Strange Medicine, forget it. It's Journey's music and all that that encompasses. The guys created album after album after album of great music with their collaboration. If I was JUST a Steve Perry fan I would sit and listen to FTLOSM. I would much rather listen to Escape, Infinity, Frontiers, etc. End of story.

Love the song, but the writing, the lyrics are Perry and you know it. Friga's lyrical contribution the last three records have all been shit, except for Out of Harms Way. That song was actually meaningful.

Get on the Friga-fone and ask her what words she wrote. I will find out about the other side, hold on. Ok, Perry wrote the main words and the hook. Friga wrote the cheap perfume line.

Cool. I like that line. Now I know who to ask my question to. Why is it "A singer in a smoky room...." and not "He (or I) seen her in a smoky room..." Although a lot of people erroneously sing the latter, I still think that would've made more sense and made the song flow better.

Furthermore, if you look at the Windy City Breakdown album cover, it depicts a lot of the DSB theme (streetlight people,etc.).

I remember seeing Perry talk about this on MTV. They were in Detroit on the Departure tour and he was looking out the hotel window at the people roaming around after midnight. He started bouncing some of the lyrics off of Neal who was in the same room and they came up with the song. Cain wasn't even part of the band yet.

Lights was written originally for L.A. The town I was born in. He changed it because Journey was known for SF :D

I love the pic. Thanks Monker. Steve looks amazing. Love the black, very sexy black. Love the hair.

As for all the talk about who wrote what and all that...I don't care. It is what it is, and thats Journey. And thats the reason most of us are here, because we love that Journey.

As for FTLOSM and Steve's other solo work..Love it. I have FTLOSM in my cd player in my car right now. I've been listening to it for about 2 weeks. I gotta tell ya, his voice is so different on this cd than on the Journey stuff. Its more soulful, more edgy...I don't know how to explain it. Its just amazing. And another thing about this cd, in every song you can here him inhale and exhale. OMG, let me tell you, that is some good stuff. I know, you probably think I'm crazy, especially you guys, but some of the women know what I'm talking about. Its sexy...

You need to listen to Windy City Breakdown. And the Baby's greatest hits (especially Cain era songs) are very good.

Anybody who says "Windy City Breakdown" has 'very good' lyrics knows a definition of "very good" that I currently do not.

Well, DSB was a hell of a long time ago. I will say that Jonathan's songwriting over the past 10yrs has out shined Perry's 1000 times over.

And, I doubt you can provide any evidence of who wrote what on DSB. It is all guess work, as it has always been.

Cain is the reason we are here! His songwriting brought Journey to the level that has us talking about them almost 28 years later.

Shame his song-writing genius didn't give the Babys any longevity

Explain how Joanathan's songwriting could have stopped John Wait from injuring himself onstage and leaving the band...and recommending to Jonathan that he go to Journey because "there ain't gonna be a Babys anymore."

Jonathan is on the cover of "Union Jacks", but I don't think he had much to do with the album, especialy the writing. He only wrote on their last album, "On the Edge"...and they were already on their way to being disbanded....arguing with each other and their label. The incident above was the final blow. No amount of songwriting would have saved the band.

It would be nice if you actually knew what you were talking about when you started spouting off.

Some of what he says is spot on. Some of what he says is way off.

That's the problem with so much of what goes on in these forums...people rely too much on others to speak for them. They would rather simply give an "i agree!" then to speak their own mind, in their own words.

DSB is a good example. I don't care what Perry says about looking out some window in Detroit. He would take credit for writing "Faithfully", if he could find a way. Nobody knows what happened in writing sessions, in the studio, etc...To say a certain person wrote a certain a set of words is pure guess work. Nobody knows. It is pure speculation.

Don't Stop Believen'. Period.

Steve Motherfuckin' Perry was the genius behind that song and you god-damned jolly-well know it.

SBFP! - Steve Butt Fucker Perry.

Who or what he fucks doesn't change the fact that he can write circles around Twinkle Toes with that "Rollercoaster Baby" shit. :D

I couldn't disagree with you more. Cain is 10 times (if not more) the songwriter that Perry is. It isn't even close.

That has to be the absolute hands down best piece of comedy I have seen posted on this board in a long, long time.

Love the song, but the writing, the lyrics are Perry and you know it. Friga's lyrical contribution the last three records have all been shit, except for Out of Harms Way. That song was actually meaningful.
Other than that, how many faded wedding photographs and kiss me softly's can you stomach?

A lot.

Those lyrics are Cain's.

Im glad i was able to push you out my cave.Friga lkes to rahash anything that might have had some success earlier in his fucked up career. i will never grace any of his solo SHIT with my eyes or ears,so i wont be lookin at any Windy city beat off shit you are talkin about. Faithfully was the only song he did good.Only causehe was havin wet dreams about that whore he couldnt have cause he was on the back of the bus blowin perry you cocksucker. If youlike the babys ,you need me to back over you fuckin head with my Chevy Silveraodo you cheap bastard
