I know I'm setting myself up for smart ass commentary for saying this here but the truth is there was nothing I really wanted in terms of things so I requested that no one buy anything but to either give something made from or some form of expression from the heart.
I wasn't able to spend the holiday with everyone I love so the time spent with some was meaningful and calls and letters from those far away.
The best gift I received was a beautiful letter and poem written from the heart by someone I love very much.....it means more to me then any material thing possibly could and it's something that I will treasure and it will last forever in my memory.

Letters add such a personal touch to correspondence. I have kept some letters from past sweethearts that are from 20 years ago.

I am so jealous! I want your job!

We try our best to have a good time at work. When I retire from there, I'll not miss one thing about the company, but I'll damn sure miss the people. What a great bunch.

Couldn't agree more. Very very strong album. All props to AC/DC for this release. I was stunned at how good Johnson sounds at 60+.

Before 9/11, yes. The cockpit is locked like Fort Knox now days, unless it's occupied. I'm almost never hungover at work anymore. That got too painful as I've gotten older.

Then you need one of these....easily hidden, you can clip it to the inside of your shirt.
When I bought mine they were around $80.00, you can get them for half that now.
They can hold 500 songs, give or take..........

everyone share your best gifts! What was your best / favorite gift that you received for Christmas

Obligatory mention of just being at home where it's safe, calm, boring, and NOTHING at all is open past sundown. My cell phone rarely gets signal. But it's been so great seeing the ENTIRE family... it was awesome hanging out with my hometown crowd (surprising them, actually)... walking up to everyone on the porch in the dark went like this:

Me: "What's up bitches?"
People on the porch: (squinting into the dark)
Me: "You have NO idea who is walking towards you, do ya?"
Eric: "Holy fuckin' shit, it's Rhi... whatthefuckrrryadoinherr?! We've missed the shit outta ya!"

Or at my Grandparent's on Thursday:

Grandpa: "You don't come 'round too often."
Me: "Well, I do live 1000 miles away."
Grandpa: "How long's it take you to drive?"
Me: "About 12 hours."
Grandpa: "That ain't too bad."
Me: "What?"

Anyhow... material-wise, my Dad sent me shopping for necessities on his debit card... I stocked up on enough groceries, toiletries, detergents, and socks to last me until Spring. That fricking rocks. My TV has been busted for MONTHS and is an old bulky tube model. So, my Mom got me a flat-panel LCD HDTV. And a Wii... and I'm probably swiping her Guitar Hero since she won't notice until next summer anyway probably. Heh. My best gift though was actually being able to get here. My friend helped me to get a rental car and pitched in almost half the cost so that I could have reliable transportation to get down here and back. That was absolutely amazing.

All in all, been a great trip. Met my cousin Shawn's 10mo old son, met my cousin Marcus' 2mo old daughter. Caught up with everyone, found out my cousin (who is as close to me as a brother) Matthew is (accidentally) expecting a baby w/ his 20 year old girlfriend of a few months. (He's 30. And it's not the best of situations, but I'm grateful I could be there to talk to him and hear it from him in person. And I will be spoiling this child regardless as it's my first neicephew!)

I'm so ready to get home (Chicago) though. I've been here most of the week and I'm well aware of why I left. I love where I'm from, but it's not where I am for a reason.
