Cain, who attended Roosevelt University's music conservatory, said "Don't Stop Believin" was a collaboration with Perry and guitarist Neal Schon, but originated with him writing the chorus: "Don't stop believin, Hold on to that feeling . . ."

"We wrote the song from my chorus backward," he said. "It was very spontaneous."

Oh great. Are you a Frigsturbater now too?
Just trying to point out who actually wrote the backbone to the song, ma'am. :)

No, that's good info. Thanks Dan.
Just tell her to shut the fuck up.

Who's going to tell the plokkers?

Here in the UK it is without a doubt the original version with Steve Perry.

It's played loud and proud twice during the movie. Once during a medieval scene and again at the start of the end credits.

Why pay for a synchronization license of a re-recorded song? You have to pay the songwriters (NS, JC & SP), regardless of which version is used in the movie and you need permission from all three of them. Why would you want to pay Perry when it's not his voice and in turn, why would Perry grant permisssion if it's not his voice? The re-records did the job of getting Revelation to Platinum. Now let's bury them in a hole and never speak of them again.

The re-records will never see the movies...nor should they. I still like them, though.

Open Arms is probably the best sounding thing, production wise, on them. I now think if they wanted to do something with them, they would have let Shirley do the production instead of Jon. The vocals are alright but the instrumentation just sounds terrible.

Agreed. The rerecords are hugely underproduced. I will say this, and have said it before. I prefer the new version of Only The Young to the old one. I think Arnels vocals are stronger. That's the only time you'll ever hear me say anyone did better than SP. But he did.

I liked Open Arms and Only The Young better than the originals. A few were pretty good and there were a few stinkers.

If they had put as much effort into it as disc 1, there might be a few shining moments, but I guess they were thinking why waste production money when the songs will never be used anyway other than as a contract filler.

Time, not money, was the problem. It's pretty widely known that Arnel sang the re-records with a cold. They didn't have time to wait. They were racing against the clock...or at least that's what they said.

That was in December right, when was the DVD recorded again, March? I'm just trying to see how long it took them to put together the whole package and have the units shipped for sale,

Walmart wanted the rerecords and Journey didn't. Walmart asked for a new GH and 3 or 4 new tracks..... Shit, who am I talking to, you know all of this...

This is what happens when there is no tour going on and no new album yet, we start regurgitating. It's all Adam Sandler's fault.

Me too! Just more pop or something to the song. I also agree with the last part of your post!
