The UAW and their $33 million retreat

Postby ebake02 » Sun Dec 28, 2008 9:16 am

Since we're the "proud" owners the the big three does this mean we can stay here and golf on the $6.4 million golf course too?

The UAW and the Teacher's Union are killing this country. 2 slob entities with way too many marginal employees that are nearly impossible to fire. That's not to say that there aren't great workers in both organizations. I just don't understand why I have to be in a union if I want either job. Union dues bought that country club...you can bet your ass on that.

I can't believe they aren't going to sell it with the money their losing. Looks like their line about making concessions to save Detroit is pure bullshit. $33 million retreat, over the top benefits and perks and $30+ per hour, no wonder the big three aren't going make it.

Why anything like this pisses anyone off is beyond me. How many fucking retreats do the upper echelon of companies have? The workers can't have ONE? Get the the fuck outta here.

Holy shit. People act like the unions are ruining corporate America, but for fucks sake, look at the payrolls of upper management. I'll bet you my left nut, not one fucking union person own a yacht. But who does all the work? Not the fucking yacht owners. I get so bent because those elitist, pedicured motherfuckers think they're worth 100x more than the people that do the work. Yeah, that's the differential of salaries.

Unions are the only thing left from America being 3rd world. The rich get richer and the working class will all live in fucking communes.

Rant over. :D

I knew I'd piss you off.  I think unions are expediting our descent to 3rd world status. Our teachers are horrible and impossible to fire and we can't compete on a global basis when our laborers make $30 an hour...at least that's what it is in Chicago. Fucking city garbage men make $26...for picking up trash cans...and putting them on a toter lifter. Intricate shit there.  I have no problem with skilled laborers like plumbers and electricians getting a fair wage, but garbage men, laborers and a whole host of other overpaid jobs have made it impossible to compete globally. The UAW is proof of that.

I don't have a problem with giving workers a retreat but not when your union is bleeding money. With the shitload of money these union employees make I think they can afford pay their own way. What pisses me off the most is watching their strikes over pay cuts when people who do three times the work only make $8-9 per hour. I'd love to see these overpaid assemblers live on minimum wage for awhile so they can see what's like for everybody else in the working class.

Garbage men don't make that much, if a third. My problem is, the money the owner of that garbage collector company makes in comparison to the people that do the work. He can't survive without them. He wants to sail on his yacht while the people that put him on that yacht get to work two jobs just to pay the light bill.

lol Working with your mind will always pay more than working with your body...unless you're a fucking bank robber or a jewel thief. And remember, that boss can hoard his money and be just fine, but those workers need him. I'm for a fair wage as well, but unions and their "scales" that pay people by years worked only serve to see who can do the least amount of work rather than the most. There's no incentive to excel at your job when your pay scale is mandated by time. Thus, he who does less wins. At least that's what I've always seen. And I've been in a union and supervised union employees. Their fucking attitudes suck...kinda like yours.  (payback for the Nazi comment   :P ).

That's what we call them. Ask an Ohio person what they call them. Package store. I never heard of such. Maybe Journey/Survivor will chime in here.

My dad worked for GM in the 50's 60's & 70's. I think they served a purpose back then. Somewhere they became extremely political with the Dems backing them to this day and can't compete with the car manufaturers- foreign that come here and employ. Dems-it has been over for awhile, but the unions just don't know it yet ! The bailout will NOT work because they can't compete bacause their wages are $ 30.00 higher and all the benifits promised from the past are a burden. Again Congress is STUPID & trying to keep that vote ! WE PAY !

Apparently Melissa says they call them that at some places here in Florida too even though I have never heard of that. We only had State liquor stores in PA. Never noticed that here.

Unions once served a great purpose and in some cases still do. Just like politicians, however, their leadership got greedy and now whats left of the membership is paying for it via lost jobs, etc.

I work in the industry for a non-union company. GM is one of our customers...after working with them for over 2 years now...I can say with complete honesty...they have no clue how to manage. There was a strike last year that caused them to stop production for close to 2 months (American Axle). And still they didn't learn. Without a clean sweep...well...oh never mind. I'm better off keeping my mouth closed.

Well, employers in the rest of the industrialized world don't have to worry about footing the bill for their workers' healthcare.
Of course, to implement such a thing here in the States would be nothing short of blood red communism.

Exactly. Unions are there to keep employers in check just as it's the employers duty to keep the unions in check. The UAW is a perfect example of this checks and balances not working.

Let's get real. Strictly speaking, they're not the workers' golf courses -- they're for the union bosses, the same guys who hang around organized crime.

The organized labor/crime bosses have always had a love for golf. La Costa in California was a mob-financed/mob-built/mob-owned golf course that hosted such labor luminaries as Teamster boss Frank Fitzsimmons, Anthony "Tony Pro" Provenzano, Allen Dorfman, and Murray ''Dusty'' Miller. Dorfman was the Teamster pension fund consultant (cf. the movie "Casino"), and Provenzano, in addition to his affiliation with New Jersey Teamster Local 560, was associated with the Genovese crime family (murder, extortion, loan sharking, kickbacks, hijacking, gambling).

One organized labor/crime boss even died on a golf course: Anthony "Tony Ripe" Civella, February 14, 2006, died at the age of 75 while on a golfing vacation in Phoenix. Civella was a Kansas City mobster involved with Las Vegas skimming operations (also cf. "Casino") and also had ties to the Teamsters and their pension fund.

Separate Wayz- keep shining the light. World competition will break the unions. Many foreign car companies were smart enough to come here to the U S ,build factories and hire Americans. They do not put up with union BS ! Walmart flourishes and their prices are lower, as in $$$$$$$$$$$$$. They have separate problems, which I think the gov't has cracked down on recently with fines. The last ones to know will be the Dems , since they get millions of contributions from them.

I've never witnessed someone so slaphappy about their nation’s spiral to the bottom of the economic ladder.
I actually view it akin to treason.

How anyone could possibly view that as "treason" is beyond me. Sounds like you might want to take a good look in the mirror rather than slapping the treason label on others for no reason other than to make yourself feel better. This is something that some Republicans were doing to those in opposition to the war. It was reprehensible then and it's reprehensible now.

They put up with the union "BS" nearly as much as GM does. Because of the unions, they have to offer a competitve wage and benefits. If it weren't for unions, the American working class would all make poverty wages with no benefits. It nearly is now.

You people need to start looking at the people who are responsible for this nations industrial woes and stop looking at the people that get blamed for it. The top tiers of management in the companies of this country are raping and robbing these companies blind and blaming it all on labor. Take a look at their salaries for once, and when you do, include their bonuses and stock options. It's rediculous. 30 years ago top management made something like 10 times what the laborers made. Now it's something like 400 times that in some cases. It's not labor and it's not the unions. It's those dickwads that show up in private corporate jets with a tin cup asking for handouts, while the workforce scrambles to pay their electric bill.

No offense intended Dave, but how did we go from Union discussion to the war? Just had to ask! I do agree about the "treason" remark. Even if he does WANT us to spiral into a recession (which I know he doesn't), treason is performing an act against your country...not just wishing it to collapse! If we could all get in trouble for what we "wished" would happen, we'd probably ALL be serving life sentences right now. JMHO
