Has Journey been invited to the GRAMMYS?

Postby jrnyjetster » Wed Dec 31, 2008 12:50 am

:?: :?:  That'd be some great exposure, especially if they performed. My guess is probably NOT though, since they weren't nominated in any category.

I heard there was an alternate version of Never Walk Away with Missy Elliott doing some kind of rap. She's nominated for the rap part.

Journey's not gonna ever ever be on stage at the Grammy's. Unless of course hell freezes over, and I think we all know what I mean by that. And that's no disrespect to Arnel and the current line-up. That's just how it is.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel Rhi, and quit beating around the bush!  I completely agree though...if they didn't make it there with Perry, it'll never happen now. They still write "80's" rock which is what we all love, but unless they write 2009 hits and get serious radio play, they can hang it up. I personally prefer them to stick with "their" sound and say the hell with the Grammy's!

It seems like nearly every 80's band has been coming out with 80's sounding albums (except for Bon Blowme!), and I've been in heaven with some of these releases! I'm glad some of them quit trying to fit in with modern music, and just went back to what they do best! Whitesnake, Asia, Journey, etc... Keep these albums coming!!! :D

Correct. Apart from many people here, on Journey's board, and the handful of the Asian following that never cared much until Arnel joined (and that is NOT to open the race issue becasue that is not how I roll, it just happens to be true), they haven't scored anything big enough (and no one say the word "platinum" - 500,000 copies does not get you a Grammy! ) to even be talked about in a corner at the Grammy's, much less be invited or receive one.

$20 says at one point somewhere during the night at the Grammys... before the show, afterparties, lobby, elevators, bathroom, sometime somehow, DSB makes a cameo.

I don't even think they qualified this year for best rock album. 51% of the album must be material not previously released by the band already, while Revelation as we know was made up of 54% previously released material. You can have a cover album (as James Taylor received a nomination for Wichita Lineman), but you can't cover yourself.

There next album could be a different story if they decide to do something off the wall like become a filipino ballad band (and with that thought in mind, I think I'll add Rey Valera's Greatest Hits to my playlist for today).

Arnel has a concert in New Jersey that night with Lani. The Grammy show could however invite Neal to present an award to Steve Perry for most anticipated release of a nonexistent album.

A tribute band with a platinum album. I think that argument has been put to bed.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Unfortunately, that second disc which helped them achieve Platinum is the very reason their album didn't qualify for an award. However, their single AATY years might get some love from the CMA's

A platinum album with half the recorded sales as other platinum artists...sorry, it seems there's still legs to this argument...

If they sang DSB at the Grammy's without Steve Perry it would be like the Rolling Stones playing SFTD without Mick Jagger.

lol, my answer is boring, comparatively,,, but

I imagine they were invited when WYLAW was nominated,,, wouldn't be surprised if Espee said no,,, given all that's gone down and been said,,,

too bad,, he was great in 94. Not the same as in the 80s, but still great fun to see...

now, back to your melee :P

As for new stuff getting nominated someday,,, it could happen,,, with Arnel's great voice and feel good story,, he seems to get a pass with the press about being an Espee clone,,,

If they write the perfect song,, the stars align,,,

not sure how I'd feel about them winning one without Perry,,, lol,, hmmm

SP was also nominated with Kenny Loggins for "Don't Fight It" back in the early eighties.
