I mean, although they have gotten some pretty good press, Arnel is still a relative nobody, and SP is still really the most recognizable member of Journey to the everyday public. It seems to me the only way that they will be recognized and remembered for their performance is to sing a Perry-era song that folks can relate to where Arnel can shine as the Perry imitator that he is. (That's not a jab, just a little reality.)

I agree with this and the fact that they may not have a choice is the matter....as someone stated earlier!!

Well...you have 5 choices on which set COULD pop out...I would prefer to see NONE of them!
speak for yourself.Mimi? Hmm... ok, we have flabby man-boobs, fried eggs on a nail, ribcage, a kid... and then there's Deen. He might be the only one worth popping a peek at.
Good. That's when everyone runs to the pisser, the catered food is served and everyone checks to see who won the football pools.Gunbot wrote:Let's not get carried away. This isn't the halftime show.

If the network is the one to choose which song out of the set gets aired I got a bad feeling we are going to hear DSB again.

Yeah, I've never had any reason to watch the pre-show either. I'm usually watching ESPN's analysts dissect the game. I'll definitely check this out, though.Gunbot wrote:Saint John wrote:Good. I've never seen any shows before the game on the same day. That's why was wondering if this will be part of the big Pepsi bash show 2 days earlier. Will it even be on site?

... the best thing for them to do is a medley of their most famous songs. Maybe start out with AWYWI and end up with DSB with a few others thrown in there.
It would probably wind up coming across as a tribute to SMFP, and that would be worth watching!!!
Hey man, I knew you'd you stomp in here like The Running Of The Bulls, but I was really just making an honest observation.Rockindeano wrote:Saint John wrote:Good. Dude, come on? Run for the pisser?
I am guessing folks didn't run for the pisser when Paul McCartney played the halftime show, or Tom Petty, or the Rolling Stones. They are legends. The halftime show is an extra 14 minutes longer to be able to accommodate the artist and the urinal needs.

(didn't even know they watched TV...fuckers just seem to be endlessly enamored with adding and subtracting), a couple of aunts, etc. So yeah, the halftime show apparently is huge, but I have never watched it...ever.

I don't believe I used the word "qualified", but the essence of what you're saying is certainly true.Rockindeano wrote: You yourself said it Dan last year, "Journey isn't qualified to play the SB without Perry."

They are only going to get 4 minutes. I would even venture they might not even be in Tampa. They are probably going to do a taped version, possibly in San Diego, and then the network might show it.
Folks, don't get too excited, this isn't the live halftime show.
donnaplease wrote:Not getting excited at all, but the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced it will turn out being an SP tribute. I'm not sure how it could be anything else. It's just like the Wal-Mart deal. The public wants the hits, and SP made the hits, well... hits.![]()
I guess the only scenario I can think of now where it wouldn't be like that is if they did the "Arnel story" prior to them performing, and I don't really see the public caring about that on Super Bowl Sunday.
I wish I was in San Diego...
I think putting Journey on hold from 87-95, dumping Chalfant and Rolie and taking him at his word (huge mistake), and then waiting 2 years for him to make a decision on having hip surgery seems like the ultimate respect. Too bad it was always a one-way street.Rockindeano wrote:Donna, you will never see Neal and Jon pay respect to Steve Perry.

Donna, you will never see Neal and Jon pay respect to Steve Perry. This won't be a direct tribute, but playing DSB again for the 45,329th time, will be an indirect tribute for sure.
