TBF is no more legitimate than Revelations. There was plenty of funny math going on, even back in 1996.

TBF was certified Platinum on 12/20/06 and was released on 10/22/06, which is 9 weeks. It then debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts on 11/09/06 and seemingly disappeared the next week.

There is no way that TBF sold 1 million copies it's first week or it would have been #1. Sales of the album were not consistent, or it would have been on the charts longer than one week.

Sony flooded the market with TBF discs (ie: TBF "shipped platinum") to artificially get the Platinum certification and manufacture a Grammy nomination.

I remember going into the music store to buy TBF the day it was released. I'll never ever forget the comment the manager said to me when I went to check out. He said.."yeah, we just got done playing this in the store. What the hell happened to Perry's voice? We had to turn it off, half the staff was put to sleep, and the other half now wants to kill themselves."

 I'll never forget that. Ever.

The more shocking thing about your story is that any one working in a music store would have any idea who Perry was or what he sounded like, even "way back" in 1996.

For telling the truth?  I like the album, but Perry shouldn't have busted up the Rolie/Chalfant album if he had no plans on touring. I'd love to hear the tunes Chalfant says he has "laying in a drawer somewhere" from those sessions. Andrew, get on that for us.

SJ with all respect, I think liking TBF or not depends on the person. I love his voice on the album. I know there are some here who will hate the man till you die. And some who love him. Same with Jon, Neal etc. I think this is the saddest part of their parting.......... all the fighting between the fans. It didn't used to be that way. :(

His not touring has nothing to do with someone basically telling you that you are buying a piece of shit after waiting all of those years for some new material..BEFORE you get to listen to it yourself. I eventually formed my own opinions of TBF, but it was pretty much a dick move on his part.

TBF was Perry being the guy not quite ready to give up the girlfriend he knows has to end sooner rather than later. It's (good) sex on demand, and even though he doesn't like her enough to entertain the idea of a long-term relationship, he can't quite handle the thought of her gleefully taking another dick yet

With that said, I still like the album a LOT. It's my "winter" Journey album. The classic catalogue just sounds so much better in the summertime for some reason...

Most guys working at a music stores during those times were older long haired band types that never got over the fact that they really were working in a retail store for a living. I'm pretty sure most of them knew exactly who Perry was.

Yup. The local record stores around here had long-haired pony tailed employees that knew everything about rock from The Beatles to STP. If you asked for an album they'd tell you the aisle, which side and what row. Those guys were the original GPS's. I miss those guys. Now you get some fuckhead with a Dave Matthews shirt on that looks at you like you have 4 arms when you ask him where the new Loverboy album is.

I would look twice at you too if you inquired about Loverboy in 2008. Loverboy? Duuuuude. Hell, why not pray for Asia, Autograph, Fastway, Quarterflash and Kix while you're at it?  :D

I know where to find it.... bottom of the trashcan, underneath a frayed discarded toothbrush, snot-laden kleenex and a used pad. Just where it belongs.

Loverboy.......I remember when they first came out here, I was way more into Honeymoon Suite and Haywire.......both of which had much more charismatic frontmen IMO. Never did get the Mike Reno appeal? :?

The new Asia album was great!!!

Phoenix was a great album... "Never Again," "Alibis," "Shadow of a Doubt," "No Way Back," "Parallel Worlds," and "An Extraordinary Life" were all stand-out tracks and the rest tied them together very cohesively.

"Just Getting Started" by Loverboy was one of the best efforts of the last five years in melodic rock. 10 great songs that go by too quickly and Mike Reno's on fire throughout the whole thing.

So go ahead Dean look twice, or more
