OT: Foreigner on Ellen show tomorrow

Postby fightingilliniJRNY » Tue Jan 06, 2009 1:13 pm

Thought some of you might be interested to know that Foreigner is scheduled to appear on the Ellen DeGeneres show tomorrow (1/6). The current lineup with Kelly Hansen is pretty solid and worth checking out. Hopefully they do their song or two plugged in, although the acoustic Say You Will is great too.

Here's a link to Ellen's website to check your local showtimes:

I don't give a fuck if they found him on Dancing With The Stars. The dude is a great singer and fits into the band extremely well.

He's been around a long time.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

No argument from me. He sounds great, and no accent either. His old band, Hurricane, had Robert Sarzo on guitar, brother of Rudy who we were talking about earlier (WhiteSnake, Ozzie, Quit Riot, etc.).

My Sarcasm meter must have be out of order on the original post.

Both Robert Sarzo and Tony Cavazo's brothers were in Quiet Riot,... Rudy Sarzo and Carlos Cavazo. As for Hurricane, Robert left after the Over The Edge album in 1988 and Doug Aldrich took over on guitar. 8)

BTW, what nationality is Sarzo, can't figure out the accent? Is he Austrian? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNfzg4tRWCs

No... Rudy and Robert Sarzo are Cuban. Carlos and Tony Cavazo are half Mexican and half white.

Yikes, I don't feel it. This Kelly Hanson guy, sounds like literally every other rock singer from that period, decent voice, nothing overly done, just gets the job done. You will never see the likes of Gramm, Perry, Mercury, again.

This new singer from Foreigner, just doesn't have what Lou had - that's called raw talent, along with those extra gears, and that sound that made them famous, I never even heard of this guy before. And Hanson actually rates himself as if hes better, in the interviews Foreigner think they sound better now than they ever did, those dinosaurs have lost the plot with those kind of statements. Foreigner should of put this one to bed just like Journey should of, but in my opinion at least Arnel Pineda is a far better vocalist than the Rock singers out there... I'm done with the new Foreigner.

I could not dissagree more. I have seen the new line up and Kelly is awesome, like a Lou Robert Plant mix. The man has talent. He can work a crowd, and sing his butt off. They need to get some new material behind them to prove he is more than a cover artist.

I also disagree. I honestly didn't know much about Kelly Hansen before his stint with Foreigner. That said, the dude is soooooo channelling Gramm on every note. I think he sounds more like Gramm than Pineda sounds like Perry. I think Hansen does a SUPERB job on the Foreigner classics. On another note, am I the only one who thinks that he and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) could pass as brothers?

Dude... I was a huge Hurricane fan, and saw them open for Stryper on the "To Hell With The Devil" tour supporting their EP. That EP eventually became one of the most expensive to find on eBay, and I'd seen people pay well over $100 for it. I think it's been re-released since then, but still...

3 excellent albums, catchy and not too complex, and Hansen became one of my very favorite vocalists. I was very pleased when I heard he got the job with Foreigner. BTW, he and Jay Schellen (drummer for Hurricane) stuck together for several other projects, including Unruly Child and Air Pavilion. I had one of the first pressings of the Air Pavilion disc "The River The Life", produced by Juan Croucier of RATT.

Whoa... just found this interesting bit about Air Pavilion:

Tokyo based rock group Air Pavilion is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2009.

The band gathered together again in early winter 2001 to record three tracks for Japanese TV animation "Gehenna", Don Dokken and Phil Lewis (LA Guns) joined the band on vocals as well.

Tak's first solo album is ready for release in 2009 which includes singing from Goran Edman, Don Dokken, Phil Lewis (LA Guns), Kelly Hansen and Tak himself.

Air Pavilion consist of: Tom Croucier, Kelly Hansen, Jay Shellen, Tak Yonemochi.

I can't get awry from Don! He's following me everywhere!!!!

I doubt Mick and the boys are gonna cry too much over this one. If you haven't already, catch 'em live. My only complaint is the BS wait for the supposed new album.

Hansen and Pilson both add a good bit of 80's rokkitude to Foreigner, and are awesome to watch live. Hansen even makes lesbian jokes to the crowd.

No kind of about it, funnily enough I just watched a video clip from MR-X yesterday.....and that was the first time I'd seen anything from the current Foreigner. I thought he was pretty good, but the very first thought I had was wow does he ever look like Tyler (actually moves alot like him at times too)......in that clip anyway.

That's the rumor. I think it makes sense for them to give it another go this summer. I bet Foreigner is on this summer's bill somehow - maybe as the only other act or maybe playing an hour-long set like Heart did last year.

I had been very familar with Kelly from his days with Hurricane, as well as the last Unruly Child album and his contributions to the first Heaven and Earth (Stuart Smith's) album. I've always loved his voice! The first time Foreigner came around the NY/NJ area with Styx, my friends were skeptical (having been longtime Foreigner fans), but the last tour that we saw them with Lou was extremely sad and disappointing. Lou had just been through his brain surgery trauma and could barely sing, he mostly "spoke" the lyrics.

I had assured them that Kelly would be superb and described him as a "cute" Steve Tyler (funny you should also make the comparison). That night, Foreigner slayed Styx as their opener! My friends are long-time Styx fans, as well, but we all agreed that Foreigner was simply incredible and had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the start of the show. Jason Bonham was handling drums at the time (love him!) and I was already a huge fan of Jeff Pilson, so for me, it was a no-brainer.

I, too, can't wait to hear a new album from them, as I believe they've been performing together far too long for them to NOT have something out by now. They should strike while the iron is hot, before audiences forget how wonderful they are together. I'm not sure I'm liking the new drummer yet, but that's just based on the Ellen performance. He didn't seem to stand out much to me, but Jason's got some big shoes to fill.

I think Foreigner would be my number one choice for Journey's tour. I think it would be better if it were only the two of them on the bill. I'd probably try to go to two or three shows with that line-up!

Isn't this a pretty small tour to begin with, 4 or 5 shows total in Asia and 30 shows stateside? Do any other acts want to do a short tour like this? Also, maybe someone can answer this, is it true that the Revelation tour was the last big tour for Journey and any future touring will be limited like this upcoming one?

Well, if this is indeed a small tour, then the BA situation starts to make sense. He only wants to perform 10 days or so a month, and while a Journey tour would of course be longer than 10 days a month, a short tour could probably work. I hope to hell Adams says no.
