Who Has Met Steve Perry?

Postby SherriBerry » Wed Jan 07, 2009 1:40 pm

There are quite a few on this forum who have followed Journey since the beginning and I
was wondering if any of you have ever met Steve Perry. Since we are in the offseason, I
thought it would be a good time for some stories.

I talked to him on the phone
He was at a Houston radio station and it was a private phone in.
This was during medicine,
I asked him about getting back with Journey and he halled off on me
Saying the ex wife thing would I go back with her.
I said sorry Steve I don't think its the same thing he did not sleep with the band,
He then calmed down and said well JRNY is not where my heart is right now I'm with a new band.
This was never broadcast it was a private phone in.

And that was before the Trial by Fire fiasco/hip thing. That was always my point. After ROR, he wanted to be a solo artist. There he was saying ex-wife to you, not I'm doing a solo and maybe someday Journey and I will do another album. He went back to do TBF because he was pushed.

Got to say hi and get a couple autographs (Jon's private show at Third Encore and the Walk of Fame), but never really "met" him. Have met all the others though, except Augeri & Arnel. Had a couple in depth conversations with Smith and somewhat with Jon. This was before I knew who he really was. ;) Steve Smith is always great to talk to. Good guy.

He's an absolute sweetheart in person. Probably the most speechless and stunned I've ever been. I found him very down to earth, generous with his time, with a great sense of humour. :D

I think (as in, just my opinion) Sony said he needed to fulfill his contract by releasing one more album with Journey before they would entertain talk about more solo work.

There have been some neat stories from others about meeting SP...I never formally met him, but did get his autograph at the WOF & say hi (or some other gibberish)...it was magical. :D
Deb was one of the very lucky ones to meet him at the Star - and, he talked with the ladies there for quite a while (love your little video clips there, Deb).
Funny how I never had a burning desire to really meet any celebrities or rock stars except when I re-discovered SP & Journey a few years ago...so, I guess I'm all done. lol.

I wonder if SP's comment had to do with Journey bringing in Kevin Chalfant in 1992 or 1993. I know he sang
with the band at a benefit for Herbie in 1993, but I don't know if they had been exploring replacing SP with
Chalfant much earlier. It wouldn't have gone over well with SP whether he wanted to tour or not. Deano said
in another thread that he has it on very good authority that SP really loved Journey.

I am sure you probably already know this, but Fan Asylum gives messages from time to time for Steve, but it is a seperate intity now from him. It used to run the Jouney Force fan club. Just in case someone new did not know.......it also used to run his fan club when he went solo........it was called SPIN.......... And yes, cyndy and lora are very cool. Also very nice, they used to treat us fans very well. Miss those days ladies, we haven't forgotten! :D

got his autograph when he appeared with kenny loggins
no real conversation.
on the raised on radio to, we had backstage passes, but left when we saw it was a
go thru the line thing, one autograph no photo thing.
went to the hotel , i had a bunch of stuff for neal, and a couple of journey things,
and steve was a dick, said im not signing all of that, at which point i said they were for neal anyway, grabbed my lp out of his hands ,and walked away a steve perry hater .
went inside and hung out at the bar with neal, mike and randy for a bout an hour
very great guys.
maybe steve had a bad day.

Maybe he would of broken a nail... fuckin' asshole. Here we are as fans buying tickets to their shows, eventually to Steve Perry's solo tours and on top of it records and memorabilia & he can't sign a couple things for a fan without bitching like he always did.

Steve Augeri would of signed a whole basket of things and stayed the extra 2 hours for photos, and he was the replacement.

My only interaction with him was in non-concert settings, so I have no idea what he was like pre or post shows. However, he was always one of the nicest, most genuine people I have ever been around. He had zero rock star attitude.

waited 2 hours after salt lake city show in 1994. Lincoln Brewtser came out and signed my CD but no steve, waited waited waited, they said he left we didn't believe them. Finally a body guard came out and said if we approached steve he would break our neck or something to that effect. Steve came out in the snow. In a parka with a hood. Didn't say a word, smiled and got in a car. Was about 2 feet away from him.
