I talked to him on the phone
He was at a Houston radio station and it was a private phone in.
This was during medicine,
I asked him about getting back with Journey and he halled off on me
Saying the ex wife thing would I go back with her.
I said sorry Steve I don't think its the same thing he did not sleep with the band,
He then calmed down and said well JRNY is not where my heart is right now I'm with a new band.
This was never broadcast it was a private phone in.

And that was before the Trial by Fire fiasco/hip thing. That was always my point. After ROR, he wanted to be a solo artist. There he was saying ex-wife to you, not I'm doing a solo and maybe someday Journey and I will do another album. He went back to do TBF because he was pushed.

I think (as in, just my opinion) Sony said he needed to fulfill his contract by releasing one more album with Journey before they would entertain talk about more solo work.

When FTLOSM came out, didn't Sony basically TELL him that "Either get back with Journey or your album will not be promoted"? I remember hearing that somewhere...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

When FTLOSM came out, didn't Sony basically TELL him that "Either get back with Journey or your album will not be promoted"? I remember hearing that somewhere...

Yeah those are the rumors... I have no idea what went on, and no opinion, but assume for a minute those are true... now isn't it funny how the same people who rag all over Perry about "fucking Journey over" with TBF and only doing it because he "had to" are the ones who defend that god awful Revelation disc 2 by saying they "had to" do it in order to get the Walmart deal.

Perry said something vague, but I also remember someone in his band discussed that in an interview or article. It wasn't Lincoln Brewster. It was one of the other guys.

I was drinking tea in a cafe here in the UK once, and he came over to me and said,

"hey aren't you that girl who is up to no good? Would you please say 'hi' to Wix and stevew2 for me when you next go onto MR because those guys really crack me up. Oh, yeah and if styxman ever shows up again, tell him his Avatar adventures were some funny shit."

Then he refused to pose for a photo with me, paid my bill and left. That's the kinda guy he is.

No one argues that. People argue that he said he would record and tour, but he never had any such plans. And I have a feeling that the ultimatum was given to him by Sony after they heard FTLOSM. My guess is that one exec said something like this to the other "Boy did this guy fuck us over. Did you hear that shit?!?! See what kind of scare tactics you could use on him to recoup some of our money. Try and scare him back into Journey so he can record a fucking album with musicians that actually have some talent."

I still can't believe he would tour with those guys but not with Journey. He obviously couldn't suck it up and do it for the fans. I really think he doesn't give a shit about Journey fans and hasn't in quite some time. Deplorable to think that his last tour singing Journey songs was with a bunch of no-names. He's right, the stone was cracked, but not by the group he alleges. He cracked it by singing Journey songs without Journey.

I agree with the Steve Perry doesn't care about the fan thing. This board was in an uproar of what happened the last 2 years of how Neal and Jon handled business with lead singers and how they didn't give a shit about their fans or just was in it for the money. I say, bullshit. It was Neal and Jon who moved Journey forward, it was Neal and Jon who desperately wanted to pick the right man for the job to move Journey forward so the fans can have what Steve Perry wouldn't pursue. JOURNEY.

.. and after all that, it's Steve Perry who is praised and goo goo ga ga'ed over just because he brought them to the heights they were back in the 80's. Guess what, it's what ave you done for me lately, and for the past 13 years Steve Perry has done jack-shit for the band and fans other than milk them for money while Neal and Jon give fans the product of Journey and bust their ass's on world wide tours.

I think I speak for everyone that we will always admire the icon of Steve Perry. But the way I feel about his character, he continues to spit in the face of his fans and band mates by simply being an full of himself prick, and for that I'll always hate the dude when it comes to his character.

To me Steve Perry is the man with the voice that stirs my soul more than any other voice I have ever heard.

He was involved in the making of wonderful music. Some of which I listen to every day - years and years after it was crafted.
He gives me all that pleasure for the price of a few CD's and DVD's.
I expect nothing more from him.

In return for all the pleasure listening to his songs and his voice have given me, I wish him health happiness. That's all. He owes me nothing.

If he ever does create more music I will buy it, if he doesn't, I will still happily play the music he has already made.

In my opinion, the man's life is his own to live.
And I think that a musician/singer who sells a product should not be expected to give a 'service' above & beyond that if he/she doesn't feel so inclined.
We pay for a CD. We pay for a concert ticket.
We don't pay for the artist to provide anything more than the performance on the disc or on the stage.

If they do....that's frosting on the cake, but I don't believe it's obligatory.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to meet rock stars. It could be a let down.
I'd rather not know what they are REALLY like. Kind of spoils the illusion.............maybe.

lol, I'll always give Barry Sanders the benefit of the doubt. He made a decision and STUCK TO IT. I don't think you'd go to any Detroit Lions message boards lately and people under the purple light and collared sun-glasses wishing and hoping and CLAIMING that one day the great Sanders would come back to the city of Detroit and once again be apart of the Lions. The dude made the decision, walked away from it for good. He never made no remarks about not being apart of the team, and didn't leave to go to another team for a few years to prove he is a one man, solo junkie to earn himself a "few extra bucks."

Plus the game of football relies on 53 men, not 5, so I guess its a tad bit different between the 2 to simply just walk away.

Great post lady, totally agree with all of it....even the last part somewhat. Ya always wonder if there is "rockstar attitude" there. I have been lucky enough to have met all 3 of my favorite vocalists and they've actually exceeded what I thought they would be like....very down to earth. So I really DO NOT want to meet any others, not even Jon Bon Jovi.....I'd be scared any others would probably be a let down. The bar has been set pretty high.

If they do....that's frosting on the cake, but I don't believe it's obligatory.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to meet rock stars. It could be a let down.
I'd rather not know what they are REALLY like. Kind of spoils the illusion.............maybe.

That was well said. Thanks!!

Agree, well said, SusieP. I'm sure it would be such a disappointment for someone that you admire and that has such a profound effect on you to turn out to be "a jerk". 'Course, some fans are jerks, too and do dumb things like interupt a celebrities meal or whatever...yikes, I hate when I hear Journey fans doing that.

Exactly right - well said! For fans to believe that they are "owed" something beyond the CD they bought
or the concert they attended is the utter height of selfish arrogance. I would expect an artist to be appreciative
of the fans, but it isn't always possible to accomodate their expectations. It's well known that SP tried not to speak
after a concert to anyone to save his voice for the next one. He mentioned in an article that Journey toured with
a lot of great artists like Bryan Adams and Pat Benatar, but he didn't get to know them because he didn't talk to
anyone - it wasn't attitude or an intentional snub to fans that he didn't stay after shows for hours to sign autographs.

Steve Perry gave his all for several years of touring and may have paid the price with his voice. If that
isn't enough for some, well that is their problem - he does not owe anyone his life. I appreciate what he
chose to give of himself and feel thankful for it, just as I appreciate Neal and Jon keeping Journey alive
all of these years so that I was able to rediscover the music a decade later.

Then he refused to pose for a photo with me, paid my bill and left. That's the kinda guy he is.

hate to sound weird but the singing gig is a job not that he doesn't like to romance women, sing to his heart's content and bedazzle the eye; but he gets paid to sing.
