For a total of two minutes, of which 30 seconds was speaking time...with a friend of mine who worked for the Jacksonville Times Union...November 1994. Wasn't very vocal....but then again, he had just sung a full show at what i'd gather was his best that point....and he was friendly....shook hands...signed an autograph....and laughed at a guy who asked him about Journey...(funny...he went back to them two years later LOL).

Always loved that photo of Rhonda & Steve. See how their outfits almost matched? Like a couple going out for the evening.

Right after that Perryville fans at WOF meeting (May '06?), the PV board was ablazed with pics and stories. What a magical time it was. I think Kathy (Wildfire here) deserves a lot of credit for organizing the junket since it turned out to be her site members that got this honor to have Steve show up (unexpectedly). All members were invited for this California get-together, but I was too shy (at the time, a fairly new member) to go

Maybe Kathy will chime in with some pics and her story.

It has always been my dream to meet Steve Perry...I have loved his voice since Frontiers..
When the HWOF inducted Journey I really wasn't expecting Steve to be there but I decided what the heck...it's close...why not go.
I got there & took a spot about 6 rows back toward the center.
The crowd was buzzing like bees all packed together smothering on a warm day.
Then they announced Steve Perry was there & it was pandemonium...at that point the crowd disappeared & all I heard was my heart pounding.
When Steve took the stand & we sang & cheered.
It was grand!!!

Image

Image

When the ceremony was over I saw someone in the front row move out & I quickly whisked myself into that prize position to wind down from the event & get a better view.

Image

When it became apparent that the band was going to sign autographs my emotionst swelled with more heart pounding suspense.

Steve Perry walked all the way over to the end on the left to start signing. I lost sight of him in the crowd & was just hoping somehow someway he would come to me..
I just stood my ground with the crowd pushing from behind. Waiting, hoping & wishing he would stay long enough to get to me..

I never even realized til a few years later that JSS in the Soul Sirkus era was in attendance & also in my pictures.

:D

Image

Neal the Ham sneakin back again to get the last few drops of adulation
Image

Steve made his way just to the section before mine then he stopped & walked all the way to the opposite end on the right. Yes another master of tease....
More luxurious heart pounding suspense. Fan by fan he came closer as he smiled seemingly impressed by all the things his fans brought to sign. I was trying to be calm & pace my breaths. One girl gave him a drawing that he touched it & looked at with great affection. I followed his every movement as he slowly came closer & closer. Nothing I could do but wait & hope.

Image

Then he came to the last section I was in. He opened his arms wide & smiled as he came to the guy besides me. He signed a t shirt for him. I was next with my heart pounding so loud I feared he might hear it. I handed him my Journey DVD & without ever looking at me he placed it on his thigh to sign it. I thanked him quietly for coming & he handed it back to me & went on to laugh & joke with the last 3 fans. It was over with some disappointment as Steve never looked at me or said anything. My heart was still pounding & I was on cloud nine where I would remain for the next few days.

Image

Steve stepped back away from the crowd in front of us & blew a big kiss!

Wow...I didn't want to leave...Not wanting it to end I stayed til everyone was gone just wanting to drink in very last drop of this wonderful experience I had been part of.

It was MAGIC!

Like a page out of a fairytale destiny would bring us together again shortly after the HWOF.
That was nothing short of magical. Time seemed to slow & my feet no longer felt the earth beneath me.
I turned into Steve as he was turning into me & we sort of flowed in a dreamlike dance to avoid colliding.
I remember telling him I just saw him at the HWOF. He replied coyishly, "Oh did you?"
We spoke of that fateful day both of us agreeing that we still could feel the magic.

The only time that I still regret was this rainy evening around Christmas. I noticed him about 30 feet away...his eyes bowed down...his face so peaceful it is forever etched in my memory & he was wearing a Santa red sweatshirt. I stopped in my tracks, turned around & ran away from him. It was as if I had seen a ghost. When I got control of my emotions I went to look for him but he had left. My heart sank as I missed a chance to wish him Merry Christmas.

It would be a long time til we would meet again. I finally saw him this summer. He was wearing shorts & a t-shirt. I was surprised at how great he looked. He was sweet & it was a beautiful heartfelt conversation. He reached out his hand to me & I put my hand in his. We wished each other well as we parted he thanked me. Sighs

:P

I met two Journey singers this summer...
Jeff Scott Soto & Steve Perry really know how to make a girls heart pitter patter!

Image

His song tries to set my heart free
This love wants so much to be complete
Endless riffs without refrain locked inside
Drift upon a melody haunting my life

Maybe I'm just missing a lover’s sighs
Calling out his name in the dark of night
Soon he must take to the sky and say so long
Even across the miles my heart hears his song

That was amazing - thank you for such a wonderful story Shadowsong! Aw, I envy all of you
for getting to meet Steve Perry, but I do hope that if there is a new CD, there will be some
performances, so I may have a chance yet. Hopefully he heads North or there will be an
invasion of Canadians heading south - right Deb?

Shadowsong, I love your story. You are so lucky to have met him more than once. I giggled when I read the part where you ran from him. I know I probably would have done something to embarass myself, like say Holy Shit, you're Steve Perry...like he doesn't know that already. lol

If he tours, I'm not going to take any chances that he may come to Canada, and have to cancel for whatever reason. I'm either getting in my car or a plane and I'm going to get my ass to an early date, if I can get tickets, (even scalper's tickets will do.) Neither of us is getting any younger!!!!!!

P.S. Shadow those are fabulous pics. Thanks for sharing your story. You don't mention where the other opportunities happened, (and NO I'm not going to stalk him.) You are one lucky woman.

Met him with Neal and Jon in NYC in '86 I think it was, they were in New York promoting ROR... we were out at a club one night and I knew them from my job, so my sister and I and the three of them hung out all night in the VIP room, havng drinks, really fun...until like 5am. They were great, although things between them were pretty strained at that point (between Neal/Jon and Steve). Have also met SP separately over the years, and spoken with him on the phone, because of my job... he was always just really cool and warm and down to earth....

Disclaimer:
This summer I fell 9 feet landing on my back & then my head hit the ground.
I was hospitalized & confused so it is possible that I did suffer from some form of lunacy.
Reminds me..moon is almost full.
:P

Still if I'm going to go crazy I can't think of a anyone better to see than Jeff Scott Soto or Steve Perry.

Thanks everyone...I do feel I am incredibly lucky. I consider it a gift from the universe.
I feel comforted that he is out there living his life & so blessed to have been in his presence on this great earth.

Disclaimer:
This summer I fell 9 feet & my back & my head on the ground.
I was hospitalized & confused so it is possible that I did suffer from some form of lunacy.
Reminds me..moon is almost full.
:P

Still if I'm going to go crazy I can't think of a anyone better to see than Jeff Scott Soto or Steve Perry.

:D
okay that explains it, i understand now

They were great, although things between them were pretty strained at that point (between Neal/Jon and Steve). Have also met SP separately over the years, and spoken with him on the phone, because of my job... he was always just really cool and warm and down to earth....

What a great story boy you are very lucky in your job.

Yeah I met him...a long long time I ago...I can still remember how his music made me smile...

But the meeting didn't go so well...I understand more about the man now, from people who are still in contact with him.

I hope I get a chance to meet him again and shake the mans hand in friendship and aprreciation.

After what he did for friends of mine on here, I finally let go of all the anger I had and hope to hear him do something with music again.
