No argument from me there, Dean. One of the reasons for that is the Northeast is full of GREAT pro sports cities. If you look at the college football powerhouses, they are almost always exclusively shit pro sports cities, with one or two exceptions. USC is Los Angeles' version of a pro football team and would probably beat the Lions. Most people who grew up watching professional sports find the college game to be an inferior product (and it clearly is, from a talent standpoint)!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and my body and fingers are drained to the point that I can't stay on "beating a dead horse" theme with Superbowl XL.

Funny you bring it up Deano, because I watched it the other night on the Superbowl run DVD (play by play no commercials) and I'll tell them by the way I see it, 100%.

Lets get one thing straight. Penalies in NFL have been CRUCIAL that year in '05 and there were numerous upon numerous calls that were iffy in that '05 season alone.

Remember now, the Steelers were victims MANY TIMES THAT SEASON when it comes to bad calls, and people forget that debacle in Indianapolis of Troy Polamalu's interception (That was clearly a pick) over turned, which game Manning a chance to take over the game. Remember that? What if the Colts pull off the win? Hmmm. Bad calls after bad calls in that game, but the Steelers STILL OVERCAME.

Pittsburgh indeed played their D+ game in XL (After playing A+ ball all the way through the playoffs), and it was good enough to win the game.. that's how bad The Walrus and the Seahawks got out-coached, and that's how bad the Seahawks really were. Seahawks showed no class, and completely excused the fact that they didn't get the job done when they needed to, and will forever be the whiniest little bitches in the NFL. Winners win, Losers cry. Period. It's how you handle it, and Seattle reacted like red headed step childs. I can go on and on.. so..

lets put the Superbowl XL "refs" shit behind us shall we?

Here you go.

20 Reasons Seattle Can't Blame the Refs (final copy)
________________________________________
1. On plays when there wasn't any penalties...one team made plays...one team didn't.
2. The Refs didn't give up the longest run in SB history.............................Seattle did.
3. The Refs didn't get fooled on a 43 yd trick play, Randle to Ward for a TD, Seattle did.
4. The Refs didn't miss two field goals....................................................Seattle did.
5. The Refs didn't drop 4 very catchable balls in key situations, that was Seattle's TE.
6. When the same Seattle TE finally caught a pass, he took 3 steps, was hit by the Safety and fumbled. But luckily for Seattle, "the Refs" ruled it incomplete.
7. The Refs didn't carelessly let the 1st half clock tick from 48 seconds ALL THE WAY DOWN to 13 seconds before FINALLY running their next play................Seattle did.

8a. And now, 54 yds from a FG, 13 secs left, Seattle foolishly heaved it deep, trying for a TD rather than a shorter play & timeout to set up an easier FG try which then missed by just a few feet.
8b. 2nd half, 50 yds from a FG on 3rd down, Seattle boneheadedly does the same thing again, they fling it deep, ignoring trying to get a little closer for the FG which again missed by just a few feet.

9a. 3rd & 28, Pitt's QB makes a play scrambling/completing a 37 yd pass to Seattle's 2.
9b. 3rd & 18, Sea's QB misreads the zone defense & throws an interception at Pitt's 5.

10. Speaking of 3rd downs, Pitt was great then with plays like the 37 yarder above, QB runs when nobody was open, a nifty shovel pass, a shoestring catch by Ward, etc.
...However...Seattle was only 5 for 17 then with plays like the INT above, dropped passes, wrecklessly going deep in short yardage situations, etc.

11. Even Pitt helped Sea. when WR Ward dropped an easy TD in the endzone.
12. Even Pitt helped Sea. when CB Taylor dropped an easy INT early in the game.
13. Even Pitt helped Sea. when QB Big Ben tossed a gift-wrapped INT, with a Pittsburgh WR wide open in the endzone for a TD that would've put Pitt up 21 - 3.....21 - 3 !!!
14. & on this play, the Refs helped Sea too, for no flag thrown on #94 for blocking Pitt's QB blatantly in the back, giving Sea. the ball at Pitt's 19 instead of the Sea. 45 !
15. The mean ol' Refs helped Sea. again with no flag thrown on Sea's center for leveling Pitt's DE after the play was over. Hmm, ESPN recalls these plays, somehow Sea doesn't.
16. Who failed to step out of bounds to stop the clock late in both halves.......Seattle.
17. Who kept punting deep through the endzone giving Pitt the ball at the 20, Seattle.
18. Late in the game, needing a TD and FG, no particular order & currently in easy FG range on 4th down, who again went for the TD, losing the ball & game...........Seattle.
19. Who outrushed Seattle & contained their star RB Alexander (the NFL's leading rusher), just enough to force several 3rd downs...Pittsburgh.
20. "Seattle...the sum total of all the above, your bad coaching decisions & clock mismanagement, breaks on big Pitt mistakes, breaks from the Refs...& your inability to make big plays adds up to...NO EXCUSES !!!"

Congratulations to the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers & nice job rolling through the #1...#2...#3 seeds IN THEIR OWN BACKYARDS & overcoming the worst officiated game in the playoffs, at Indi, by overcoming adversity & making plays.

Now that that's out of the way.. Wix.. maybe I shouldn't of said they didn't deserve.. but they sure all hell played like they didn't. Lets be realistic, the San Diego Chargers should no business even SNIFFING anywhere NEAR the playoffs this year at 8-8.

They were fortunate enough to play in womens division and needed Denver to flop and flail like they do every year, which they did. They beat a team (the Colts) that looked average all season (at home) and proved yesterday they can't play in no other climate other than 70 + degrees. It is what it is dude. Yes, they got there, but they just aren't good enough. Just like all season. I respect San Diego though, immensely, and their fans earned it last night by showing us respect after a tough loss. Good fans, and good organization. There is good things for SD in the future.

First of all Congrats Young one.....your team survived. As far as the 3rd quarter? Pitt got ball FIRST, sucked up a long drive. Then SD got a nice return, and on the first play - got some bad luck. Pitt drove the length for another score. Don't make it sound like SD got 4 possessions and Pitt stopped them cold. There were a few NON-CALLS as well. A Nice personal foul on swinging Rivers to the ground wasn't called. Again, not why they lost, but still. Steelers have a GREAT O-LINE....probably the main reason why they SURVIVED the game. If you take away that fluke INT by RIVERS.....and everything else in the game stays the way it happened - SD wins that game 31-28.

Again, congrats Young one....

While I don't disagree with part of your sentiment Dean, many of the people in the crowd at a college football game are not close to true football fans. Many are simply there for the atmosphere, or just because it's the in thing to do on campus. Some are there simply to show school spirit and don't know if a football is full of air or full of feathers. While there is certainly nothing wrong with any of those motives, I think it's a bit disingenuous to intimate that college football fans are more "pure fans" (my terminology...not yours), when I believe it to be the opposite.

Rockindeano wrote:Add to that the stupid assed NFL overtime rules

Now you're speaking my language! I've been taking the NFL to task for years for their idiotic playoff system. By the way, the college overtime system is every bit as moronic! They simply need to add 15 minutes to the clock and play an overtime period. The NFL allowing their games to be decided by a coin flip is every bit as illogical as the NCAA allowing their "National Champion" to be determined by a bunch of stat geeks, who couldn't get laid in a whorehouse with a fistful of fifties, playing with their BCS computers!

lol. Thanks. I appreciate it. Yeah there were a few non calls... like not Calling holding (I mean mauling) of James Harrison EVERY SINGLE PLAY OF GAME. I think SD's tackle littlerally BLIND SIDED Harrison and jumped on his back. Again, a no call. But it's okay, they didn't call it all season. Ohwell. Pittsburgh held the ball in the 3rd Qrt for 14:50 seconds. The only time SD held the ball, was when Larry Foote intercepted a battered pass. What? A nice play by the 6'5 defensive end batting the ball in the air and linebackers making a play on the ball doesn't count anymore? Jeez. Keep reaching.(like the Rivers sack comment, that was funny.) Fact is SD got mauled, and only scored 24 points because the Steelers played prevent and litterally watched Sproles score their last touchdown.

PS- Funny now how ALL OF A SUDDEN the Steelers have a great O-Line.

I know your silly little tricks, Malone. haha. Should be a game for the the ages Sunday. We will see if we have anymore "Houdini" acts in us. It really is set up this year for any kind of football fan. It'll be a game where you can't take your eyes off the television screen.. and that's the way a Title Game is supposed to be.

Good luck to all Baltimore fans. Football doesn't get much better than this in this game. Oh yeah, don't sleep on Eagles/Cards.. will be a great game also.

We will just agree to disagree. San Diego had a good a shot as anyone of going all the way. Being a long time fan I know what THEY are capable of. LT is a Pussie!! though :D

As far as the cold weather? when it was snowing is when we were beating you. When it quit snowing is when things went downhill.

Really a batted ball for an interception, as dumb as it may sound. Changed the game. Otherwise Stock had it right. I personally feel we would have scored and would have beat you guys!

At this point it is anybodys Super Bowl.

On any given Sunday!

It goes like this, Delhome obviously had SEX for his birthday the night before the game. It fucked him up!

Little things can ruin a team on any given weekend. Big Ben could get the Shits before next sunday and play like shit??!!

It is not written in stone! 8)

I can live with agreeing to disagree. I do disagree with you though that that INT changed the course of the game. We were up 21-10 and dominating. Don't get me wrong.. it was HUGE. The real game changer that stuck to me was the Stillers drive before the half. Down 10-7, the Steelers offense put in full metal and drove down the field with ease. Scoring before half can put anyone down, esp the way they were playing at that point, and then the Steelers getting ball at half. That drive proved wonders.

Again, SD has a bright future.

San Diego was WAY overmatched in that game against Pittsburgh. Anyone who didn't watch the game and only saw the final score (which I believe was 35-24), probably thinks San Diego was in the game. After their first TD, they were down and out the entire game. The game wasn't really close, at all. Also, for the 1000th time...weather DOES matter. I know a lot of people sitting in warm weather states, drinking lemonade in January don't believe this, but the numbers simply don't lie. Warm weather teams SUCK in cold weather games. Their loss percentage in cold weather games is ASTONISHING! Hell, up until a year or two ago, Tampa Bay had NEVER EVER EVER won a single game in the history of their franchise where the temperature was below 32 degrees. Don't get me wrong, I think San Diego still loses to Pittsburgh on their home field, because they're simply not that good of a football team. I just didn't believe that a southern CA team was going into Pittsburgh against a better team and winning in 20 degree weather.

You're on fucking drugs, dude. At one point the score was 35-17 . The game was essentially a blowout from the middle of the 3rd quarter on. And the sack was legal. You can slam the QB to the ground as long as it's in one motion from the time you make contact. You're getting your crotch wet over the commmentator's dumbass comment. It wasn't even borderline. Pittsburgh won because they're better. If they played 10 times Pittsburgh would win 9 of them. Sorry yesterday wasn't your 1 in 10 game.

You said the Chargers didn't deserve to be there. They did win their division, and they did beat Indy to get to Pittsburgh. Those are indisputable facts. However, if you want to play the "don't deserve" card, I can say with a straight face right now, Pittsburgh definitely "didn't deserve" it's Super Bowl trophy 3 years ago. That game was so fuckin rigged even Steeler fans on message boards felt bad about it. That was a Jerome Bettis sympathy pay out and nothing more. Seattle was clearly the better team and they got fucked more ways than possible.

I HATE complaining about officiating, but this was beyond stupid. Like I said, even Steeler fans wondered aloud, if this was a gift for that fatass Bettis. There was just too much that happened in that game to suggest it wasn't authentic.

The goal line stand by SEA that they gave PITT 6 on.
The offensive push off in the end zone that nullified a SEA TD(complete joke)
the phantom holding call on a SEA 30 yd pass play, etc

Yeah, the gimmick play by the Steelers..I saw that one coming. Pitt ran it the week before, and they always do when they are at mid field with a favourable down, like 2nd and 5. SEA got burned on that one.

But that game was a complete joke...worse than WWF or Boxing.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear that bro.

I'll say this.....this board would never be confused with a Philosophy message board. The logic is here just stinks. Period.

Look, I don't care what happened the previous 40 minutes of a game. I don't care if Team 'A' committed 34 turnovers, and wasted 4 timeouts, had 8 players hurt, and committed 14 penalties. If they are 'in it' at the end, and a blatant wrong call makes Team 'B' win, than you can't say if a, b, c, d, e, f, and g didn't happen - the last minute 'wrong' call wouldn't have made a difference. That's faulty logic, people. And doesn't fly.

Take a fucking logic course, and get back to me.

I give Stuart NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES TO COME IN HERE BLAZING.

Actually they ran that play against the Browns 4 weeks before...they didn't run it against the Broncos. I will give that the state of officiating in the NFL has gone down hill...and I blame instant replay...which should a ref REALLY work to make the right call when if he screws up (most of the time anyways) he will get it overturned on replay? It makes Ref's lazy...

Hope this isn't directed towards me. I agree. A play is a play. That no call on Baltimore for the "delay of game" was flatout wrong. No one knows what would have happened the next play had that been called.

A team can play shitty all game and still be tied or close at the game...and a bad call could fuck them over. One cannot then say, "well, had you not fumbled going in during the 2nd quarter, or that pick in the first cost you, not the bad call."

I agree with you dude.

Ya, my friend had the same thing happen, they decreased his pay 33%. But their reasoning was he was spending half his day on chat sites on the net!

He didn't use the "I'm doing research" excuse to it's full potential then.

All you fuckers who bash unions want to to rethink your position? I can guarantee you Rick and I won't have decreases in our pay.

I am sorry though Dan. Sucks big time.

How can you have pay decreased. I have heard of people having it frozen with no chance of a raise over a specific period of time but for it to be lowered, how does that work? Do they tell you they're lowering your pay and if you don't like it you're fired?

Probably right...the company will just lay you off...

A company is in business to make money...NOT employ people...that just a side effect of business.

And if your union goes on strike you are fucked....yeah Unions are SOOOOOOO good for people...
