OT: Kiss' "Love Gun"

Postby conversationpc » Tue Jan 13, 2009 7:35 am

I recently downloaded this album and am just now finishing listening to it...What an utter piece of crap! Sorry to anyone who likes this band or album but I just can't get into them much at all. I like maybe a handful of tunes but there's not even one on this turd that I like at all.

Yeah I know what you mean, Im kinda in the same boat. Considering that Eric Singer, Alice Coopers drummer is also Kiss's Drummer, and Im a huge Cooper fan, I automatically ought to like Kiss, but I just cant get that deep into them. A few songs yep, but otherise just cant dig em

get 'music from the elder' it was a kiss concept album that was supposed to be made into a movie.it holds the distinction of being the only album not to go gold but its a very misunderstood masterpiece.there is one ballad on there that is a gem called 'a world without heroes'

Definitely agree there. I can't say I've ever actually listened to the whole album though so I can't give an opinion either way. I gotta admit that I kind of go in and out of being in the mood for KISS. They are a great band for when you are in that kind of mindset. Gotta say I do love their Kissology vol 1 and 2 DVD sets though, I should probably check out the third one at some point.

Love Gun is a great track.

I'm in the vast minority here, but I always thought Alive III with Kulick and Singer was a good intro album for new Kiss fans. The 'classic' albums were mostly poorly recorded and haven't held up all that well IMO. I do like Ace Frehley but Kulick was clearly a more technical, 'polished' guitarist and Singer is a phenomenal drummer, and that record, while sounding about as 'live' as Sgt. Pepper, is a kickass hard rock record that doubles as a decent 'best of' with musically the band's best lineup.

Love Gun is spectacular live. Especially the pyro portion of the show. The way they get the fireworks to sync up to the song is pretty fuckin' cool!

kiss fans were overjoyed when frehley and criss joined them at the last of the show because that was a pretty big indicator that relations were better and at some point soon a reunion would happen and it did.

i still love kiss and used to have every album, record, tape, video and merchandise like the lunchbox, pillows,a lot of stuff that would be worth a lot of money now but i got rid of it about ten years ago because i needed the money pretty badly and now i wish i would've kept the stuff.my favorite album by them lately is one of their best but overlooked albums called 'revenge'.i love that album and its one of their best along with destroyer.i saw kiss in 1990 and 1996 on the reunion tour and they kick ass live.miss eric carr because he was a damn good drummer.

I consider Destroyer an all-time must-have classic.
Will say though, that the song 'Love Gun' is/was great in concert.

"Love Gun" is a KISS classic, and right at the top of their game. Always great to see live. That's the one where Paul swings out to perform on a little stage in the middle of the audience in some shows.

GREAT song, and "The Oath" is a kick-A rocker!

Yep, THE OATH does kick ass, as does I. But I think the rest of that album is pretty craptastic.

As far as LOVE GUN is concerned, the title track, I STOLE YOUR LOVE, TOMORROW AND TONIGHT and SHOCK ME are all excellent, I think. But the rest of the album is pretty lame.

PC, if you want a kick ass KISS album POST Destroyer, get CREATURES OF THE NIGHT. It is their 80's masterpiece. and it's the heaviest album they ever recorded.

I downloaded that one at the same time and sampled some of the songs earlier after listening to the other turd I mentioned. It is a much better album.

As far as the title track to "Love Gun", I expected to like it just because of the title... ...but I didn't care for it. I may give it another try but I'm not expecting much.

KISS was never really a band about making good music. They were about writing some catchy tunes, baggin' the gash, and making $$. Everyone seems to have a very polarized, love or hate, opinion of those guys.

Like 'em or not, Paul Stanley, nearly 57 years old, 3 hip surgeries, and tens of thousands of shows, still kicks major ass. His voice is ageless and, having seen him a couple of years ago, that dude brings more energy to the stage that most of the 20-something performers out there.

Cool- another thing to consider is that KISS's studio output is never as good as the live sound. LOVE GUN and SHOCK ME live kicks ass.
