Steve Perry song "Let Him Go"

Postby Kelley » Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:54 am

I keep listening to the song and there are some pretty high notes that Steve is singing in there. Sounds pretty amazing!!! Do you all think that is him singing? Just a thought.

No, Perry is lipping to Augeri's pre recorded vocal.

Funny.....That's Mark Slaughter in the video, but Robert did the vocals.....

The song is pretty phenomenal. I'm very critical of Steve Perry's solo career and, unlike many of his fans, I don't think that the majority of it is truly spectacular. He's had a couple of solid gems and, of course, I appreciate the voice on all of the tracks. But I'm also the type of fan who defines the music as more than just the voice singing the lyrics (I find a lot of Queen songs to be downright shitty due to my personal disatisfaction with Brian May's guitar prowess). That said, "Let Go" was really great. It and "Lost Angels" should have found their way onto FtLoSM; it would have improved the album by a considerable amount.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I love the song. 8)

I so agree with you. He had some great songs in his solo career, but not that many to my taste. I'm not a fan of Oh Sherrie, because -- well, just because. Not my style. And you're so right, his voice is always fantastic, but many of the songs off Street Talk and FTLOSM were just okay. The magic was his voice with Neal and the writing of songs between Steve, Jon, Neal and Gregg. Just an embarassment of riches with their music.

I'm not a student of music, but i think that's him on the high notes, too. We've heard him sing enough songs to know it's his voice -- not an instrument or someone else.

Also, I do agree he should have included Let Him Go and Lost Angels in FTLOSM, making it not so much of a "snoozefest," as some here have said of that album.

Is 'Demo' short for demolished? This song is complete and utter crap. Sounds like a Street Talk reject. This guy will never be anything again without Journey. The song quality just ain't there.....and this is true for all of the shit-ass singers out there. Beyonce, Mariah, Whitney - good voice, but crap music/songs.

OR

Steve could be pleading with all you spoons to.... LET HIM GO!

Nice note, but it is a falsetto, not considered a "legitimate" male voice. The song stands on its own. One of the best solo efforts by Perry.

You'll probably be clubbed to death by one of Mr. Perry's acolytes very soon. Keep an eye out for any woman between the ages of 16 - 56 reaching into her purse when you're next to them.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't go that far. I really do think that he's crafted some spectacular songs without Journey, though his solo output hardly registers to the results when he, Jon, and Neal were all on good terms.

Thanks,

Never heard this song.
Sounds like something that could have come on the Against the Wall project.

Love those haunting notes.

Well, I must be a real SPooner now because I couldn't disagree more. There isn't one song on either Street Talk or FTLOSM that I don't like.
I think I have a bad case of Perryitis, a condition that is contagious with most SPooners and loons that hear that voice and connect with the magic in it. :P 8)

Haha.

No, I'm a devout Perry fanatic as well. I'm just realistic; nothing the man has ever done by himself will compare to Journey in its prime. At least, not in my opinion. But he really has crafted some extraordinary songs with that instrument of his. I don't know how you can't love "Let Go." Has some rock edge to it, unlike much of Perry's solo career.
