Journey/Perry comment on sports station

Postby Journey/Survivor » Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:55 am

I'm sitting here listening to sports station AM 850 WKNR in Cleveland, and just moments ago they were playing Wheel In The Sky as they returned from a commercial break. The Producer started to fade out the volume of the song, and then the host of the show told the producer to turn it back up and stop talking for a moment. The host then said I want to listen to some Journey for a minute here. And he then said "I want to listen to Steve Perry who has the voice of an angel, and who can sing like only he can." They let the first minute and a half to maybe two minutes of the song play. The host then said that he only wants to hear Rock music tonight and that he's sick of the rap music that the producer has been playing lately.

That's awesome.

It's good to see people (be they movie stars, rock stars, celebrities, or your average Joe) pay homage to the Great Man and his voice.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

A few minutes later the producer said to the host that he wants to play some Britney Spears when they return from a commercial break because she rocks too. The host then said "no she doesn't, I just want real Rock music tonight."

Are you 100% sure it wasn't the re-recorded version?

No, he didn't. We all know what it's like right now. Although when I stepped out for a while earlier today it didn't feel as cold to me as I was expecting it to feel.

You know, I was reading an interview with Vince Gill, and he was talking about how Pure Prairie League had him sing lead on "Amie" and "Two Lane Highway" for a greatest hits compilation. People started to think that he was actually the original singer on those songs and would tell him, " Amie was the song I listened to with my first sweetheart, etc. etc." He said he hated telling them that the version they remember had Craig Fuller on lead vocals and not him. In hindsight he wouldn't have done the re-records, as the originals attach themselves to peoples memories and he didn't want to feel like he deceived people by re-recording songs that weren't his hits.
"I'm Almost Ready" and "Let Me Love You Tonight" are the only PPL songs he will perform live I believe (as those are his two biggest hits with his former band).

Actually, I should correct myself on one thing. I should say that it's the Infinity album version of the song which of course as we all know was sung by Steve Perry. But the original version of WITS was sung by Robert Fleischman.

No, it was Kenny Rhoda.

I've heard them play Journey clips on there before. I know they've used Don't Stop Believin before.
