OT: Broken Bones

Anyone ever have a cast on your dominant hand/arm? It sucks!!! Fell & broke my wrist yesterday and I’ll be in a cast for six weeks. Husband is working of town so I’m on my own trying to maneuver around (when I called and told him he wanted to know how I was going to wipe my bum ). Try getting dressed, putting deodorant on, etc. with one hand! I’ll be going back to work ‘soon as I’m out of the sling in a few days – makeup and hair should be an interesting adventure. Sure makes you appreciate having all functional body parts. But hey – I can still use a keyboard (just takes a bit longer). Damn snow and ice!!!

I feel your pain. Been there, done the same thing. I eventually learned to write with my nondominant hand because I kept breaking things in my "good" hand and arm. Can be convenient to know how to write legibly with both hands.

LOL...yep. Two days before Christmas, no snow, lots of fog, unfamilar road, 17 years old with a wine cooler in me and a car load of friends. The road was a dead end that turned into a driveway, all I saw was the sharp curve of the driveway, missed that, went into the yard and sideswiped the house. Missed a HUGE boulder in the yard along with way. Only two of us hurt, me the worst, the other just a bump on the head. The people I was with saved my ass, two teachers kids and the Chief of Police's daughter.

My name was "crash" for many years. The car sat on our farm until last summer, my mom finally had it hauled off... I have her keys hanging in my car right now. It was a 1965 Ford Custom 500 named Schlepy(anyone remember Schelp the Wonder Bug?)...galvanized steel. If I would have been driving anything else, I probably wouldn't be here telling you the story.

I'm sorry to hear about your fall! I just read this thread - apparently I need to scroll through all of the topics
more carefully. How are you doing? A friend of mine broke her wrist playing soccer way back in highschool,
just in time for the hot weather. She didn't last the 6 weeks - by the fifth she took it off herself. I hope you're
feeling better. It was so slick here one day I could only walk the dog back and forth on our street (steep hills on
either side - not good!) and even that was a bad idea. I wonder if my old soccer cleats would work...

Ive had so many broken bones and surgeries to put em back in place I couldnt even recall them all..steel rods, screws, external bars with 4 screws, finger reattached..you name it...I kinda dig the recovery process..
...and pain is SUCH a rush....

Thanks Sheri! Can't walk my dogs either (especially only with one arm now ) It was on my own steep driveway that I fell - ironically I was out there spreading ice-melting pellets around. Problem was that we had so much snow in those 2 days a couple of weeks ago (I'm sure you got that too) I just couldn't get it all shovelled by myself, so ended up with lots of ice when it started melting and re-freezing.
Anyway - every little thing is a challenge but at least it's not hurting so much. Thanks for asking .

Not even close. She's a pretty lady. Sorry to hear about your fall SSS.......I've come thisclose to doing the same quite a few times this winter. We've had so much snow this year and with the chinooks coming in randomly melting half of it then refreezing it......damn near loosens any fillings trying to drive down some of the side streets. You guys getting lots of snow out there this year too? Hubby here in the big C?

All I can tell you as someone who has broken way too many bones is that having a cast on your arm is a blessing when compared to having a cast on your lower extremities. I broke my ankle and had a cast on for 9 miserable weeks, which meant using crutches for 9 weeks. Not the most fun I've ever had. You never realize just how big a supermarket is until you actually attempt to navigate the aisles on crutches. It was just easier to decide I wasn't hungry and didn't need to shop! Good luck with your recovery.

Aw, thanks Deb . Yes, we've had major snow this year - I have a 4ft chain-link fence in the back yard and up until last week the snow was pretty much to the top of it in places. And yup - hubby's there (basking in the sunshine today, I hear) - I've appllied for a job with my former employer there also so I'm hoping somethiing will come of that. One way or another, we're coming back this year!

Thanks JFB. Funny - I was just saying that today - can't imagine how people with leg casts get around and function, especially showering/bathing and such. Years ago I had a knee injury and was on crutches for a short time (but no cast) so I know what you mean about the crutches.
