Dude, it's Open Arms. I'll take Mariah's version over this.

You got me there! Ill take Mariah's version over Perry! Sorry Loons!!

No way, you're lying, I don't believe this.....Jimbo? is this your work? :P

Nope, Its true! Do I lose my Loon Card? :(

You're officially an asshole with no place left on this board! :D

Damn Jana...you're being pretty harsh don't you think???

Boot his ass over to the AP board for a week, that will fix him.

That site is cool as hell. Love the Shout Box. I don't use it, but it's fun to read.[/quote

Yeah, Since 78 try telling the Plokkers Mariah sings Open Arms better than Arnel. You won't come back the same person. They are fierce women. They'll take you down.

Are you drinking tonight? There has to be a reason for that statement.

Maybe "78 can play twister with them.

MR is a Journey board, a board that is a fan of Journey music, and sometimes -- well, okay, many times critical of the revolving players in the band and their personalities - yes, even criticial of Steve Perry. No one is immune. But first and foremost it's a board about the music and the originality, not an Arnel Pineda fansite. Posting all these covers and duets in the Philippines ad nauseum only invites criticism by many, and his fans cannot be upset by that, because, truthfully. some weren't that good, or many on here don't care about the tenth Open Arms duet or solo with canned music video from over there. Okay. I'm exaggerating.

On Arnel's site any news and clips are welcomed, as it should be. But here I think posting some clips of Arnel, such as the old Foolish Heart cover, which wasn't very good, isn't going to get the response the poster wants here for the most part, and shouldn't get their feelings hurt, or it would be better left on Arnel's site. The problem with posting anything and everything of Arnel doing covers and Journey songs as duets in the Phils, is when something really great is posted, even if a Journey song or even a cover, many on here are sick of the overkill.

I'm an Arnel fan. I happen to like this clip and I like Sharon and thought it was very well done. Of course, there were other videos posted here of duets with Arnel that were average. So what was the point of posting those here? There's another new video on Arnel's site with Arnel doing a duet with a Filipina singer who is playing guitar, but I doubt most of you will care, but I loved it. I go to Arnel's site for all that stuff, and have gotten used to the covers and Journey songs without Journey. It's the uniqueness of who they hired.

Funny...How could you have fathomed my inclinations and sentiments? Authoring AP-related threads ain't necessarily tantamount to being an indiscriminating Arnel disciple, is it?

I started that AP Foolish Heart thread on a definitely neutral note...a measly title-link post (a very technical title and, outright, a link...yes, even sans a description) open to roll in whichever fashion thereafter!

And ain't there that ever handy option of ignoring a post one deems shitty? Your words "ad nauseum" and "overkill" pretty much apply to your very post.

I'd rather that you rightfully leave moderating chores to Andrew and T-Bone.

Truthfully, et cetera. I don't mind the okay ones as I"m a fan, but I knew by the continual posting on MR of the same videos what was coming from a lot on here regarding comments about Arnel, which happened a lot. I guess I hate to see all the dissing or mean comments on here about Arnel when some of these videos are posted. And I guess you weren't one of the ones to take offense at critical comments of any video you posted. Some Arnel fans really did. It seems like you have a good attiude about it all.

Look at it this way, Jana. If the clip is posted then it's open for review. Here's my review, IT SUCKED. Sharon's great on her own material but this song isn't in the normal range she sings at, and she comes off sounding like crap. It's not even written as a duet, that's why I don't understand who even came up with the idea for Ann to sing with Arnel originally on it. I think that was just a bone to throw the fans who kept pleading for a duet the whole tour. It was never supposed to be used in this manner to be bandied about as the definitive Journey duet.
Even Arnel is going off key a little bit to compensate for his duet partners, when they come up short on their notes. It's starting to become a bloody mess. Go back to Covering duets that are written as duets, this is embarrassing.
I look forward to reviewing the next duet that's posted. Hopefully it will be something original. :D

You're right, Gunbot. Everybody, post new videos all you want.

You have to admit the duet was better than the Lani/Arnel duet .

GB, Go on Arnel's site and listen to the duet with I think her name is Yeng. Tell me what you think. I liked it. She's more rock-like instead of pop.

Now that song is fine because Yeng is not trying to oversing. She is playing an instrument which probably helps her sing naturally because her concentration is on two things at once. She is not trying to match Arnel on the notes or anything, she is just rocking out. It's these other singers that think they're Mariah Carey and can hold a note longer than Arnel that I can't stand. That's the problem with doing covers, there is always a bar already set to compare to. Be original and you'll have the battle halfway won.
That said, you can't really go wrong with covering 4nonblondes, it's a great party song.

Well, let's face it Open Arms should NEVER be done as a duet. I'm not a singer, but it seems too hard to sing and keep in harmony together. Everybody does tend to oversing and not stay in harmony. That's why Sharon's was okay to me b/c she didn't oversing. But I still don't get why they do duets with Open Arms. It doesn't work. It should always be a solo.

And, yes, Yeng and Arnel's voice flowed naturally together. I liked the performance.

Amen. I really think that was done as a one time treat for the fans and even as a favor to Arnel. There was no way Journey was going to take time during the tour to learn how to play "Almost Paradise", I just couldn't see that happening.

We are all seeing footages of Arnel because he is currently getting more TV appearances than any Journey member past and present. I would bet my left nut that if Steve Augeri appears on Sesame Street as Big Bird, , then we will all see endless pages and threads about how big his Bir errr his performance. I can see absolutely nothing irregular with threads about Arnel singing covers. There are and will be criticisms (same as any Perry, SA, or JSS thread), there are fans defending Arnel (same as any Perry, SA, JSS thread), insults will be thrown left, right, and centre (same as any Perry, SA, JSS thread), and there will be hurt feelings (same as any...well...you get the drift). So yeah, unless Andrew tells us not to, then I think we shouldn't be discouraged from posting footages or Arnel whether he is singing, dancing, or just picking his nose.

Jana wrote:On Arnel's site any news and clips are welcomed, as it should be.

So no, Jim, you're not crazy, nor are the avid Arnel fans who love everything he does. I say there needs to be some moderation, which is where I am, right smack in the middle. Peace.

If somebody can post about an inmate eating his eyeballs or a witch getting burned, then surely we can post, in a Journey forum, videos of the current lead singer of Journey actually singing. Feel free to praise, criticise, and even hijack the thread. Aren't those what we regularly do here? :)

Hey, Mdaemon, I already did my mea culpa on this post. I was maybe being too protective of Arnel. A few posted some of those videos here and got their feelings hurt by some of the responses. I've already retracted those statements. Go at it.

Hi Jana! As the one who initiated this thread, I have actually anticipated and looked forward to the scrutiny. What caught me off-guard was the "policing" (for lack of a more appropriate term) at the outset (got GIJ's point though, it's all water under the bridge) :) .

Yeah but that shouldn't discourage you from posting similar clips though. It's up to you.

As SJ said bring'em on. If we like 'em you'll here about it and if we don't like 'em you'll here about it. Actually, I thought the one with Yeng was the best and that didn't even get posted. She actually had enough talent to also play an instrument , not just parroting some ones voice. I Know Aiza Seguerra has done a song called Open Arms and if it's the Journey song, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a blatant copy, as here voice is totally different from all these tenors or wannabe tenors who have been getting posted on youtube, so I wouldn't mind seeing that one if it gets uploaded.
