Hi Jana! As the one who initiated this thread, I have actually anticipated and looked forward to the scrutiny. What caught me off-guard was the "policing" (for lack of a more appropriate term) at the outset (got GIJ's point though, it's all water under the bridge) :) .

Yeah but that shouldn't discourage you from posting similar clips though. It's up to you.

The clips I would want to post over here of Arnel is if they would let him sing some new Journey songs off Revelation: TDTWT, LAS, WITTW, AATY, CFTB, WDILYL. Now, I would love that, even without the band live. His voice shines on those songs. I still don't get why JM allows Arnel to singer Faithfully, Don't Stop Believing and Open Arms over there, but he's not singing the songs off of his first CD with Journey. Don't get it. To me, that would be a great promo for Revelation and the concert over there.

Someone said earlier that Journey is probably ok with Arnel doing his appearances, as it could only help sell CD's and concert tickets. As far as him singing the legacy stuff, I would guess it's to give the public something to identify with. They probably don't know much of the new CD. Same thing would apply here.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Maybe they like paying mechanical royalties to Steve Perry, except for Faithfully of course which we know he doesn't have a writing credit on.
Or Maybe Walmart blocks the use of the songs or has such a high royalty rate on the new ones it might be too expensive. Since they're new they probably aren't covered by the ASCAP/BMI fees. Now that Arnel is Under Journey's umbrella, royatlies and license fees are going to be involved when ever he performs.

GB, thanks for the info. Well, Faithfully I never get sick of anyway. 8) The song stands up well without a band on the stage, and I think Arnel really sings it beautifully. One of the few Dirty Dozen I never get sick of. Open Arms, I'm beginning to hate that song -- just kidding. But no duets, please, on that song. I hope he doesn't sing it on his charity tour in January. With Lani, not so good.

Now that Arnel is under NOMOTA and part of the American music association, he can't just go sing what he wants as some people have alluded to. If he gets paid to sing on a program, then fees have to paid. Even in the Philippines there are people that monitor that stuff. The older Journey songs are probably under a general usage license that the T.V station pays for, sort of like what bars and stuff here in the states do. If the new songs aren't part of that list, then you have to have a deal directly with the Artist. Those back up tracks they use when he is singing in the R.P. that provide the music being there can't be manufactured with out paying Walmart or NOMOTA or SONY for the rights. All that stuff has to be licensed.

I've got assume a few tagalog songs at least. The are plenty of popular Filipino ballads that are completely in English that they will probably sing also. If I remember right, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME was one of Lani's big cover hit in the Philippines, so it will probably be sang.

I meant I hope he doesn't sing it on his charity tour as a DUET. I'll check out YDHTSYLM.

I actually pulled out Revelation last week after not listening to it for three months, except a few songs I had downloaded. Some really great songs on there. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the whole CD. Oh, well, since no new videos of him doing Revelation music, I went and viewed and listened to him singing After All These Years in Glasgow with Journey 8) . Now I remember how great he was on stage as part of Journey and not just solo. I'm officially excited about seeing them back on the road touring again.

Yeah but that shouldn't discourage you from posting similar clips though. It's up to you.

The clips I would want to post over here of Arnel is if they would let him sing some new Journey songs off Revelation: TDTWT, LAS, WITTW, AATY, WD. CFTB.

I hear ya. But his Filipina fans love Turn Down The World Tonight especially. It's one of my favorite songs off the CD. Plus, After All These Years is getting airplay on the radio in the Philippines. That would be a great ballad sung over there. Both songs I love his voice on. I hope they add in Turn Down The World Tonight in their upcoming tour.

The song stands up well without a band on the stage, and I think Arnel really sings it beautifully.

I couldn't understand why they wouldn't, so that makes sense. Oh, well, forget my reply to Rick just now where I addressed it again  .

Now you've got me feeling bad! :( I did apologize, and I seriously don't want you to feel like you can't post anything you want in here...we all have that right. I was just being an ass that day, so once again...please forgive me. Here...I'll even post an Arnel video to make up for it...

"What I Needed"- best new Journey song in a long, long time! :D

Oh, GIJ...This (reply) is a tad overdue...Got disconnected for some time. I "dissected" my post and realized I did somehow come off still harboring grudges...when in fact I'm not. My bad.

Rock on!

Has there been any word on what he'll be singing during his charity gigs?

I've got assume a few tagalog songs at least. The are plenty of popular Filipino ballads that are completely in English that they will probably sing also. If I remember right, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME was one of Lani's big cover hit in the Philippines, so it will probably be sang.

I checked the video out. She sings that so beautifully. Thanks.
