I prefer AP's version, if that matters.
Whether or not you prefer AP's version of it, I think giving that song another chance was a brilliant idea. At least more people are hearing it.

Oh, Rick. To fall so far...Whether or not you prefer AP's version of it, I think giving that song another chance was a brilliant idea. At least more people are hearing it.
Meh.
I have a friend who thinks the same way; just loves the new version. I disagree. Completely. Of course, he also prefers Cain's version of "Faithfully" over the original, too. The bottom line is that the production of the song is better on Revelation, sure. And Arnel's voice is naturally stronger than Augeri's and has the benefit of being put to the forefront of the song.
But the drawbacks overshadow the advantages: namely, the song is much slower and lacks the urgency of the original version. Worse yet, though Arnel is without a doubt a superior vocalist, the original FitH was one of Augeri's finest moments, and I didn't enjoy Arnel's phrasing of the lyrics or the opening scream nearly as much. Worst of all, Jonathan Cain is on keyboards on this song.
Why?
The rhythm guitar was much better and added to the rock feel. I think Jon gets to hit two keys throughout the whole song until the very end in the drum riff. And that is stupid. Completely and utterly.
Gideon wrote:Yes it was.
But I think FitH should have been a European bonus track and that they should have thrown "Let It Take You Back" in its spot.

I disagree. FITH is a much stronger song than LITYB. I would assume they were marketing that album to the US primarily.

LITYB is a masterpiece; great lyrics, truly original vocals, great organ playing by Jon, and some serious lead guitar from Neal.

You think it's better than FITH? We'll just have to disagree on that one.
There was a rerecorded version of Place In Your Heart that was on the Japanese release, if I'm not mistaken. Comments have been made about that as well. Mostly negative.

I liked the new "Place in Your Heart" much better than the new "Faith in the Heartland." I prefer both the originals, but I thought the new PIYH was at least a worthy counterpart to the original.

Amen.
Red 13 didn't have a bad song on it. The production was terrible and Augeri had spotty moments, but the writing and musicianship were solid. I'm convinced that if Journey put out a shorter song in the Red 13 style, they might get some radio play.

I wish they would have pushed Red 13 more. They could have cut off the intro and outro of 'State of Grace' and released it as a single or even 'I Can Breathe' which had a poppy feel to it.

Thats always the complaint I hear, its to long. However, to me this was Journey out of the box and I thought it was great. I think Neal probably gave into criticism and went back to the old formula.

Good policy by Neal, if that was the case. State of Grace rocks, but has shitty lyrics, and Augeri sounds like he's depressed on that tune. The Time could not be a more direct rip off of Stranglehold in the beginning. I was embarrassed as a Journey fan when I heard it the first time.
Rick wrote:This song gets a lot of discussion because it was included on Revelation disc 1.
People wonder why it wasn't on disc 2 because it's already been recorded.
My reasoning is because disc 2 was the greatest hits, and Faith In The Heartland, as good of a song as it is, doesn't qualify as a Greatest Hit.
So, why did they redo it?
As many know, or basically everyone, Generations was a definite bomb, publicly. A lot of us like it, but overall, the general public know nothing about it. Faith In The Heartland is a song that needed another chance. So they gave it one.

Steve, its not good to hold in your feelings...talk to us, tell us how you really feel and don't hold back-it's not good to keep it all bottled up inside.
