Always thought Danny sounded like Jimmy Barnes in Waysted and on this song in particular. Not a slam as I have always liked Jimmy.

Ill probably be up at JB's as well Thursday night - not 100 % sure yet.

Tykietto is certainly underated as is Danny Vaughns own efforts in Vaughn and the Danny Vaughn Band. I saw his acoustic show in December, it was the best set I heard in 2008 with the exception of his set with Tyketto at firefest!

Sounds like Jimmy Barnes? Are we listening to the same thing? Sorry, don't hear that at all. Barnes has an intense vocal that's just missing here. I can certainly picture JB singing this song, and ripping the paint off the wall with it, but this singer doesn't have the sheer bourbon-and-testosterone gutsiness to it that makes Jim's voice so distinctive.

Similar pitch and tone, sure, but sounds like him? No.

Nah, just don't hear it. Well, let me rephrase that - I can kind of understand where you are coming from. If Jimmy Barnes was a passionless crooner, he'd sound a bit like this. Like I said, similar pitch and tone. But stylistically, nothing alike. JB is one in a long line of Aussie vocalists who still belt songs out like they're singing over the barfight and dodging bottles down the Largs Hotel. There is a passion to Barnes this guy is lacking.

It's a restrained and controlled performance on that video, and by the looks of it it is a very old video. However, having seen both Jimmy Barnes and Danny Vaughn in concert in recent months I can assure you Danny has an impressive set of pipes that can belt it out with the best of them. He can also sing slower numbers with a passion that will bring tears to your eyes. With the Illegal Eagles he does a version of Desperado that is quite simply stunning.

I'd also add that your comparison was probably true when both those videos were recorded (early 90's ?). However, where Danny's voice I think has improved considerably with age, Jimmy's has deteriorated. He can still belt it out with passion, but the quality, tone and power is not what it was.

That whole "Strength in Numbers" album is excellent. Even the "Shine" album with Augeri is excellent. Much better than anything Augeri has done with Tall Stories.

"Standing ALone" is also on the Dont Come Easy album, which is even better than the "Stength in Numbers" CD (althought I agree Strength in Numbers is a great CD .

I totally agree with you Marty. Danny can belt out any song with perfection and I think he has one of the best voices of any singer in the music industry. Standing Alone is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just got a copy of the accoustic version of Standing Alone and its awesome! I also just got back from the East Coast where I saw Danny and Tyketto 3 times over the weekend. Danny was amazing and put on one of the best concerts I have ever been too. He is an excellent singer and front man. I also saw Tyketto at last years Firefest and after more rehearsing with the two newest members of Tyketto, they really got it going on and should make alot of people happy at the UK and European shows in the next couple weeks!

not country, but a lot of Danny Vaughn's song have that midwestern base--kinda the same sound that REO has. I would imagine it's from writing songs on an acoustic guitar, and then putting electric guitars on them.

For anyone that likes the song, it's worth tracking down the re-recorded version for Strength in Numbers. A bit less over-produced and more organic sounding--and to my ears, far superior.

I can hear where people are coming from on the Jimmy Barnes comparison, but at the same time, very different in style, phrasing, etc. IF there is a comparison between the two, it would be Chisel-era Barnes on something like Four Walls or maybe Many Rivers To Cross off the Soul Deep album, which was very restrained (as far as Jimmy goes...).

Very hard to compare though, since Vaughn is a pure blues singer, and Barnes is basically a male version of Tina Turner (soul, but with a very powerful delivery).

Of course, now that I have said this, I get to blow all credibility with most posters and mention that I always thought Danny Bowes of Thunder would be a perfect replacement for Barnes in Cold Chisel--not that it would have the slightest chance in happening, of course.
