Were the Beatles bigger here than in the UK?
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I don't get the Beachboys. Not for me. I don't like any song of theirs that I've heard.

Yeah, they were big in the UK, but just being big doesn’t equate to being great IMHO (cue Britney Spears comparisons  ). With the exception of John Lennon, and only some of his stuff, I was never impressed by any of the others in the band. They had a little bit of talent and a lot of luck to be in the right place at the right time to catch the burgeoning teen market of the early 60’s, who then grew up with them and, in the absence of any real competition, elevated them to superstar status.

They were an average band who produced maybe 6-7 very good songs, lots of mediocre songs and more than a few turkeys. It’s probably not entirely fair to compare them with today’s artists as they were the product of a particular period in music history. However, vocally I wouldn’t place any of the band members in my top 50 vocalists, musically I wouldn’t place any of them in my top 100 guitarists, bassists or drummers etc, lyrically most of their stuff was pretty inane, and in terms of songwriting maybe they’d just about sneak in to my top 250. I don’t have anything against the Beatles, I just get irritated at the godlike status bestowed upon them when I really can’t see what the fuss is about.

Perhaps I’m being too hard on them. I was born in ’59 so I was just too young to get wrapped up in the hype in the 60’s and by the time I did get interested in music the Beatles were already history and I was listening to the ‘heavy rock’ bands that followed. I'm sure if I'd been a teenager in the 60's or the 80's I'd have a different appreciation of them.

I don't think I even know one song by Coldplay. I like U2, though they're not one of my favorites and I do like quite a few Beatles tunes.

Yup, those two are also very overrated. In the case of Coldplay possibly the most overrated band ever.

Mr Big were way underrated. And have to say I agree with everything Marty posted here. It's funny, somebody once said......you are either a Beatles person or an Elvis person. Most people easily choose one or the other.

YUP. I remember watching this. whatta friggin' dope. If it ain't Steve and Edie, he's lost.
It was apparent that Paul was a bit tipsy during that interview.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

NOT EVEN. Their songs are timeless. Most people know all of them. You can't say that about most bands.

I really don't care for The Beatles, or Coldplay or U2. I guess I just have a natural inclination to avoid overrated bands, which I guess is a good thing!

A lot of people go on and on about the Beatles/Lennon but I just don't get it.
