I voted for the man, and I sincerely hope he does great things.

As with every other politician, though, I hope for the best, but won't be surprised with the worst.

Or, to take it back to the 80's, I quote that two-hit wonder, Naked Eyes: "You gave me....promises, promises."

Obama's speech shoulda ended yesterday with

"... Thank you so much America. Now, get the Hell off my lawn!"

;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I tortured myself and watch the inaguration speech.

Two things on the flubbed oath. Obama jumped in early the first time and then both he and Roberts flubbed. Anyway, the thing that chapped my ass was not only did he get a free pass for the flub but the media (at least locally in Chicago) said it was no big thing and other people have done worse things. Although all of this is true and it's not major in my eyes, the thing that pissed me off is Bush got blasted for his fumbling of speeches, etc. but Obama gets a free pass and even on air excuses. Where's the consistency? Had that been Bush in 2001 or 2005, that would be on SNL and everyone would be making fun of that but for Obama it gets brushed off. Don't get me wrong, Bush is a motherfucker but again where's the consistency. Just by what we've seen in the election season through yesterday, I can't wait to see all the critical media coverage of Obama.

Rip, I got to disagree with you. After watching that speech, most of it was socialist rheotric (World citizens, transfer of wealth (to other nations no less),etc.). That man is not a centrist. Relisten to the speech. This line in particular stuck out to me: "And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders."

If it was one flub from Bush or a few, you wouldn't see much attention either. It was the CONSTANT flubs and mispronunciations of words in his speeches for eight years by Bush. Also, the media wouldn't have jumped on Bush for that. The comics would have. I'm sure they will on Obama too for the oath. It's material.

Pretty fucking classless.

I can't stand his politics, but to take enjoyment from a persons tragedy or pain in just sick.

I would hope conservative minded people wouldn't indulge in tit-for-tat and show such dispicable behavior as the liberals did for 8 years.

President Bush showed class when he made sure none of his staffers did what Clinton's staffers did in 2000.

You and Fact Finder should show the same attitude. Sinking to the level of those whose behavior you dispise doesn't bring them up, it only brings you down.

Why? You've admited and agreed with me that most politicans are crooks, liars, and thieves and this is one of them. One of the longest serving ones of them too. This man has raised our taxes time and again, helped grow this government, and ruin this country. Not to mention he's a morally corrupt individual. I'll tell you what is classless, how about the Chappaquiddick incident. Leaving that lady to drown and die, swimming to safety, leaving the scene and not even calling the authorities until a day later after her body was found. Of course, he didn't serve any prision time and only was found guilty for leaving the scene of an accident. Great court system, huh? Now, I'm supposed to shed tears and/or wish this guy good luck and better health? Fuck this guy and 99% of politicians. I have no well wishes for any person that consistently takes my hard earned money whether it be thieves or politicians (one in the same usually). I'm not going to blast politicians and then wish them well in the next sentence. It's called being consistent. I have no use for these people from the POTUS down to the local dog catcher. As far as Kennedy goes, bottom line, he is NOT a good person. I do not wish bad people well. Never will.

Officially this was Obama's first act and words as President, so his batting average isn't too good right now. Bush didn't flub out of the gates like this (as I recall) but it wasn't long before the media, etc. were on him like flies on shit for mistakes like this. Again, it was deserved but I'm just asking for consistency. You're right throughout his 8 years he flubbed time and again (the greatest hits are funny) and the jokes were more than deserved. Had that been Bush yesterday (going back to 2001), I'm sure people wouldn't have been too kind.

The other thing I got great enjoyment of the flub was it fucked up the historic moment for posterity. All the historians, etc. who would drool over this footage of Obama getting sworn in, don't have the perfect scene now. However, I wouldn't be surprised if that swearing in isn't edited over time to show a correct oath being said.

This is the last I'm commenting on this because it's sounds like I'm defending Bush and I don't ever want to be accused of that. I M.F.ed him on his last day as a matter of fact. While some people were happy that he commuted the sentence of the border agents, I M.F.ed him because it should've been a pardon and a pardon done years ago.

Gimme a break. The guy goofed up the oath. It was clear both of them goofed up. He gave one hell of a speech and was pretty motivating. Jeez, you're really scraping for something here....

I knew Obama was going to win back when he first announced. I called a 40 state landslide and I was close. People like you are the problem, you blast the government but you like a 36 year veteran of the Senate - a total insider despite what he saids. That makes sense.

Not to be all "Mary Poppins" (hey, gotta have the Journey content in there) but why all the gloom and doom? In a way, it's kind of a clean slate today. Not exactly because things are still yakked up, but still, I don't understand the negativity.

It was a great, great moment, not just for America, but for the rest of the world as well, when Obama was sworn in. He will have more than his share to live up to, as many of you have already said, but I'm sure he will be succesful. It seems to me at least from his inaugural adress that he has a vision clear in his mind.

I really hope he does something, the bad US economy is existing alongside an equally poorly European one, and the two certainly are interconnected. Many, many companies here are laying people off, even my company is feeling the effects of the present crisis. I hope Obama can kickstart not only the US domestic economy, but set something in motion that will benefit the global economy.

No singling out Obama on this one, but this is the problem. Should the President/government have that much power and control that they need to be the ones to improve, run, control, and determine how the economy is. Shouldn't we have a limited government that has little power, really only defense and maybe a couple of other functions. Wouldn't it be better if we had a true free market, that would still have cycles of up and down but be more consistent and in our own hands?
