If MadSplash is right, these freaks are going to be too busy swapping out their panty liners to complain about anything else.

I'm already picturing him coming out with something closer to Teddy Pendergrass then to any type of rock album.

I was more amazed that Tito and SteveW2 are thought of as 'hard men'!

I have it on good authority that he is covering Paul McCartney's The Frog Chorus...

You know what - Deano, StJohn, Stevew2, Tito - all the hardarse bastards who throw their weight around have all at various times acknowledged that they made a mistake, that they got something wrong, they went over the top, and even on rare occasions they've made an apology. I've yet to see Madsplash make a single honest acknowledgement that he could be wrong in any way. At the moment, I'll tip my hat to the hard boys - I don't especially like the language, I dislike the personal attacks, I frequently disagree with them, but I'll pay them respect for being big enough to take their lumps when warranted. They earned my respect when they were man enough to say 'I was wrong'.

Madsplash has yet to earn it, and he burnt the 'common courtesy' bridge with his arrogance.

You've got to be kidding.....I've never seen so many apologies coming out of one poster!!!!

  Well, admittedly when those two get riled, it's a bit like being savaged by an angry bunny rabbit. But they can both talk some offensive shit, was my point - and occasionally admit they were wrong.

Hey people,

Just thought you might like to hear a clip of the Separate Ways performance speed corrected.

As mentioned before, the source for the YouTube clip (probably an audio cassette tape as it was recorded from the audience) has been sped up from the original key and tempo in which it was performed. Hopefully this paints a little bit clearer picture as to how it sounded on the day. (I'm not taking sides here, btw. lol)

I apologize for any miscellaneous clicks or slight volume dropouts, I've been having some trouble recording from YouTube to Audacity lately.

What has SP ever done right ?

Postby squirt1 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 2:45 pm

There are so many here that are critical. They have never seen SP perform, are young, and have no musical knowledge except they can use a PC. They don't even realize how huge Journey WAS ! How many here can sing, entertain, play instruments, write the material and fill stadiums and arenas , and sell MILLIONS of albums because of all the hits over the years. SP tops that with being 1 or 2 with Freddie Mercury as to the greatest singer.

You're welcome! :)

I found this quote from JSS regarding performing songs faster to save the singer's voice:

JSS wrote:Hyperspeed is one of the 'tricks' us singers use to preserve our voices on tour....think about it, the faster the song, the less time we need to hold out certain notes. Trust me, it helps & a LOT of bands do it. Granted, there are bands with crap drummers who just can't keep time or guitarists who start a song way too fast forcing the band to follow suit, but for the most part it is an aide in helping us get through night after night, especially when there are nights after nights after nights!

It was from this thread regarding another ROR tour performance (Only The Young):

http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... hyperspeed

I realize it contradicts Jeremey's viewpoint but I'm thinking maybe it's different for different singers...what could be an aid to one might be a hindrance to another.

Ok, I don't know if that was targeted at me since I posted the speed corrected clip, but...I don't think one needs to have seen SP live to judge whether a recorded performance was good, do you? Does it matter how old you are? I play in a band that's had a measure of local success but does that make me more qualified than anyone else who listens to that clip? I don't think so.

I agree with you about Perry and Freddie, though. Once in a lifetime talents.

I hear that too, when songs are sped up they usually sound better to our ears. The singer sounds more spot on and the band sounds tighter overall.

Jeremy P- I assure you that was NOT targeted to you or I would have named you in the post. It is about the 77-78 to 96 part of my life with Journey that was so incredible. I have to add Aerosmith & LedZep and then on a lesser degree Foreigner, Styx etc. I remember when the Beatles hit when I was in high school. It was huge compared to what we had at the time. They pushed Elvis et al aside and changed music. I also did understand what Elton John was to music. I remember showing my sister in law Your Song and told her this guy is going to be huge. I believe that it is important to see musicians live to judge and now technology allows a front row seat via DVD etc.

BTW, what did you think of the JSS - RedList album 'Ignorance'? I really liked it.

From the little I've heard it's ok, not a favorite....but honestly I haven't given it a fair listen yet. I prefer his Solo, Talisman and Soul Sirkus stuff to his more heavy early stuff.....I like his funky, rockin' and soulful sides better. Love me some Talisman. :) http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=f1cgiqIP1lY

annie, im sure you're a sweet lady.
but i cant quite figure how you couldnt see that he/she does have an attitude.
as far as i can see it, nobody's picking on him/her.
he/she is picking on anyone who disagrees on his/her posts.

Esc, I come read on this board on daily basis to get my entertainment and info, but only stay for short periods. So, most times, I get to read how a thread topic evolves over 2 or 3 pages. I don't know anyone here personally so have no reason (or ever be inclined) to take sides. It just seems to me that Madsplash has no more of an "attitude" than anyone else around here. Looking at all (not just this) threads he's started, invariably someone has to take exception or ridicule. Then, when he defends his position, other posters (not all) gang up on him. Again, I'm mostly talking about earlier threads. And he wasn't the one that started with the name-calling, either. To me, he's like the unpopular kid in school that gets shunned for being "different."

Of course ... MS is a perryloon .... so my judgment may be clouded  .

Can someone tell me how to get that to play? I put the code in the box, it counts down from 45 and then nothing. Do I have to do something, or should it play by itself?

Sorry for being dumb about this. See, I have a humble side.

P.S. Thanks Annie.

I'm cool with it, but it's nice to see a post like yours. All is good.
This forum is still a 95% great place and most of the people are great.
Every place has it's exceptions, though. I've gotten crabby a couple times when I couldn't understand why someone didn't see something the way I do, and I've admitted to, and apologized for it.
But I've NEVER persoanlly attacked anyone the way I have been a couple times.

I think I'm like George on my favorite show ever. I'm an acquired taste. COSTANZA!

After the 45 seconds have passed there should be a little box near the bottom right of it for you to click on to download it. :)
