Bands That Should Have Been Huge...

Postby Duncan » Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:05 am

Been playing some oldies tonight. Some of the these bands should have been massive. Here is a selection of great bands that time forgot;

Eddie and the Tide
Jimmy Davis & Junction
Shadow Page Band
B E Taylor Group
Bobby Friss
Michael Stanley Band

Who else should have made it, but never did? Really interested to hear from anybody who saw these great "midwest bands"

Loads of their stuff is on I tunes. Doesn't beat spinning the old vinyl though.

I am possibly the only MSB fan in Bristol UK. Anyone going to contradict me?

Fooking brilliant. 2 albums then nowt. Under the Moonlight off the first lp is one of my favs of all time. Explain to me, my American friends, how such a great band can disappear? Where were they from. Did they play live?

Andrew should get these guys back together.

Long story on the UK name - but partly due to their style and love for Euro-Pop.

Two albums - Romantic Depressive and Whatever

There was another album? I need to find it! Carla introduced me to them, and I've been obsessed with that album ever since. I only have 7 of the 10 songs. Excellent melodic pop-rock.

Andrew, whatever happened to these guys?

Yep, Light's Out is the album! I have the LP ripped to mp3 so let me know if you don't find it.

After Hours were amazing, the singer sounded as close to later Perry as anyone has ever come.

Funny you should say that. The first post I ever made was about singers who tried to do a Perry and After Hours was the band i quoted. Fell flat cos I didn't know how to post any sound clips. If you know what you are doing you need to let the MR crew hear After Hours

rip - What you have there is their second album. Their first was calle BVLD. It is brilliant. Hasn't got the big budget productioon of the first but song wise it will blow you away. First track is called Dream On - in my top 10 of all time.

Michael Stanley Band "MSB" were huge in Cleveland, and even somewhat in Pittsburgh. But they should have made it a lot bigger in the whole country. Kerrang Magazine named the Michael Stanley Band's "You Can't Fight Fashion" album as being one of the ten greatest albums that no one knows about. I know that for many, many years that the Michael Stanley Band held the record for the fastest sellout in Blossom Music center history.

Survivor should have been HUGE. They were of course highly successful. But they should have been Journey HUGE! If Survivor had been on a bigger label that would have spent money on promoting the band, and if Herbie Herbert had been their manager, then they would have been as huge as Journey.

It's funny but I don't normally go for stuff this hard, (this was back in the 90's) but they were so incredible on stage that I saw them again and again. Don't know where they are now, but have some really great memories. Plus the lead is dirty/bad/ hot!

It would be very interesting to put an album by album or track by track contest up between Journey & Survivor.I reckon it would be a lot closer than most people would imagine.
