My first was Van Halen. It was the first tour out with Sammy Hagar and I loved it. I was almost 15 and my old sister went with me. When Sammy went out on a scaffolding type thing 70' over the crowd we thought he was nuts. Great show.

(this is the actual show I was at).

I dug the opening band- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kmLmjz_cFs
They mostly got booed though by the other 11-16 year olds that were there.
I went with 2 of my friends that were brothers, (and their parents) since none of us were old enough to drive.

I can't believe it was almost 32 years ago!

Oh man that brought back memories! My uncle used to have home movie footage of Bon and Malcolm fooling around at a BBQ (think it was a family one, could have been friends) singing this. I'll have to find out if he's still got it, and if so see if we can get it digitally transferred and post it on YouTube.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

My parents dragged us kids to a Dickey Lee concert when I was 8, but I really don't count that. My first concert of free will was April 1986 The Hooters and Loverboy. Loverboy came to our Ribfest last summer and I had an interview with Mike Reno and I mentioned the above fact. He's like, "Hey, I remember that tour". Then I said, "You're not touring with the Hooters anymore are you?"

I remember contemplating a trip to Sioux Falls for that last May but never made it. Do they usually bring in bands like Loverboy, etc.? If they're able to book a good band I might have to make a trip down for it this year.

You would have had quite the experience, it stormed like a BITCH and they shut it down only to open it up an hour or so later when they had the all clear. Loverboy didn't hit the stage until 10:30, but the show went on. The year before that, it was Kansas and before that Joan Jett, .38 Special etc, so yeah, they get some pretty good bands in there.

Interesting...I guess I would have been a very damp Loverboy fan. I'll plan on making it down there for this year's festival then, maybe they'll sign Heart? That would have me down there in a heart beat, no pun intended. I don't have anything going that weekend yet and I prefer the outdoor general admission festivals over the arena shows.

just sayin'... ;)

Thank you, you beat me to it! Not to mention, "Satellite". You didn't put down the crack pipe much in the 80s did you Gun?

Karla With a K got some airplay too. Yeah, the Hooters were the shit! Saw em on that tour you mentioned, Ang, and in a club in 90. Good band!

My first show-btw- was Bowie in 78 with a young Adrian Belew on guitar!) Awesome show! I still remember it like it was yesterday.

First concert...Cheap Trick opened for Kansas on their Point of Know Return tour...1977?

This was just before Live at Budakon became a hit. I'd heard that warm up bands usually suck. Cheap Trick kicked major ass and I knew I'd be hooked on concerts if I enjoyed the "warm up band" that much. Little did I know what this would lead to...now in my 32nd year of rockin out at concerts. Rick Nielson's wild guitars and picks a flingin' and BunE Carlos with the baseball bats on drums blew me away.

Kansas came out and absolutely rocked! Steve Walsh was insane on the keyboards jumping around like a madman, even doing hand stands on the keys. Kerry Livgren had an eerie stage presence but fit the music perfect. Robby Steinhardt was a classic front man with the wild hair and beard and...violin (!??!). Phil Ehart did a drum solo that's sound moved around the arena (long before surround sound) that really freaked me out. It was awesome.

Rick Springfield would be good, although he played in Mitchell last year. So it's your radio station that's responsible for booking the band?

Um, if you haven't seen the two or three posts I've made about it, I was let go from the radio station in November because of budget cuts, but yes, we were the station that sponsored it.
