Layoffs?

Postby jrnychick » Wed Jan 28, 2009 11:37 pm

I found out on Tuesday that I (and everyone else I work with) will be out of a job as of April 1st. Our parent company is closing our division. It looks like I'll be going back to freelancing! At least we were given notice and a severance package. Anybody else in the same boat?

Sorry to hear about you and your co-workers. Unfortunately, people being laid off is no longer news. It seems those who still have jobs are really the story.

Lawyers seem to be going strong down here in Florida and litigating away, which keeps me in business. Thank God. But I have friends and family in the education system in different counties here in Florida that are being affected adversely.

No, we don't need a huge infusion of Federal dollars in the form of a giant Public Works package do we? Naw, let's just cut taxes. That shit has proven to NOT work as evidenced by the shit we are in. The stimulus is exactly what will save this dying economy, and only the Fed can provide the life jacket.

The shit we are in is not because of tax cuts. You need to research why we are in this mess and you will not like the answers. You are a left wing nut, just as bad as the right wing nuts.

For me:

No job (layoff)
No job prospects (been interviewing for the last month with no results)
Landlord raised rent $100
No money left
No credit cards left (let alone open)
Car repossessed. One car left and unable to make payments on that.
No insurance.
No registration. To get it means insurance (with money I don't have) and paying off my son's parking tickets (with money I don't have) to the tune of $631 just for the registration, another $250 or so for insurance. Right.

and today... no paperwork. Someone broke into my car, stole my resumes, my address book, my car registration and car insurance papers. Not that it should do them any good, as I'm financially destroyed as humanly possible.

Can life shit on me any more? Unfortunately ... yes. I could get sick. And oh yeah.. no health insurance either.

Prayers would be good.

Boyfriend's company just layed off some corporate people and closed "designer" stores that arent 't doing well, they also mentioned in one of his store meetings that they would close down only the older and "dirtier" stores that arent doing well if they have to. We're worried only because even though his store is new (less than a year old), it's not making sales plan and is constantly slow. We know it's only a matter of time before this all trickles down (with the economy as bad as it is) and he will eventually lose his job :(

My heart goes out to you all who are in this terrible situation.

The whole world has turned to shit.
And someone has hidden all the shovels.

Hugs to those who need one. It won't help much, but I smell nice and I'm clean.

What kind of jobs does everyone do? I'm just curious.
