Journey playing at Super Bowl Pre-Game

Postby SP Fan in Oregon » Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:10 am

I think most of you already know this information, but here is the post from Journey themselves.

American rock sensation JOURNEY will help kick off Super Bowl XLIII as part of the pregame festivities adjacent to Raymond James Stadium during the Super Bowl XLIII celebration in Tampa Bay on Sunday, February 1 at 5:30 p.m. EST. JOHN LEGEND will also appear.

More than 148 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s Super Bowl, the most-watched television program in history. The pregame show and Super Bowl XLIII will be broadcast worldwide to more than 230 countries and territories. :D

JOURNEY-Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda (vocals) - earned Platinum honors in 2008 for Revelation, marking their 11th Platinum album certification to date.

It's an hour long, "invite only" show for media and sponsors. Only one song will get aired on TV, and Cain said it will probably be DSB. They'll lay off the ballads, as the crowd is there to drink (open bar) and party and aren't exactly there to watch Journey so no need to play slow music. I got a feeling Grammy winner John Legend is going to be the main attraction as he is an R&B artist and that type of music will probably fit the party atmosphere a little more than Classic rock.

Edited because I've been informed that R&B and Rap are two different genres of music.

That sucks. As much as I rag on'em, play the SB is a big deal. Hopefully some youtubers will get grubby handed and capture it.

Cain confirmed it would be DSB?

(I thought Legend was going on before them)

The guy Legend is appearing with is T-Pain, who's hit singles have included "Fucked Up", "Chopped & Skrewed", and the unforgettable "I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper)".

That was worded shitty. I meant where. I didn't recall that in the interview.

Edit: No "Open Arms"? You're fucking insane. He also said that in the interview? SWEET.

"Lights" might be played but they don't want to play ballads, they want to keep things rocking. The opening song will be NWA.

Of course I could just be talking shit, but it sounds good so far, doesn't it?

Looks like I'll be watching the Superbowl this Sunday, only because I want to see Journey. I couldn't care less about the game though and will turn it off once I see Journey's gig on there. I've not seen one since January 25th 1998 when a friend of mine was doing security for it in San Diego. He got me in for free. And the last time I actually watched a superbowl game on TV was in 96'.

Six hours plus to catch a 5 minute blurp with Journey? I guess I'm not really a fan because that is not on my agenda for Sunday, to sit around all afternoon waiting for one song to play.

I'll probably go outside or do something else a little more interesting, if not very productive, like getting laid.

Yeah... one song that I could easily throw in any one of the 6 or 7 CDs that feature it hear the GOOD version.

Yawn. No thanks.

DSB gets on my fucking nerves. Both versions. Neither Perry or Arnel can save that damn song.

It's not even that good. It's nowhere close to being Perry's (or Arnel's) best vocal; Cain and Neal's best moments are in the first minute: the keyboard intro and Neal's mini-solo. The rest? Cain's synths on the '81 version suck more than a black hole (the new version's synths are much improved; much stronger) and Neal's solo is neither a technical nor emotional masterpiece.
