Wow = haven't seen Arnel on TV before, he's doing a decent job here for the most part. A bit pitchy. I still hear a bit of accent (I expect that). And he has a stage presence.

Looks like the crowd is pretty happy!

I didn't see them in concert this year and I missed any reviews - how did it go?

Agreed. Didn't think it was bad at all. Solid performance, IMO.

Agreed. Definitely a solid performance.

And to answer your question, he was great with Journey last summer.

I think he did fine accent wise and the performance was fine but vocally it was rough and it sounded like it was lowered so I don't understand why anyone else couldn't sing it lowered ..Augeri, JSS....even Perry....maybe damage is already being done to Arnel so the rest of the band are finally letting go of trying to recreate the exact same sound that they had with Perry years ago and giving some consideration to their singer so he can try to last longer...and not have to resort to taped vocals again.....it's about time the realization comes to them that Perry was unique in what he did and it can never be recreated exactly or even close for any length of time with anyone else...so they just have to do it a bit different to keep playing the songs live.

The band was solid, but Arnel? IMHO, and I like the guy, he oversings the fucking song. Way too many emphatically word ending expressions..holding out the last word on every sentence killed it for me. And one more thing too, and I know it hardly matters, but AP is ugly as sin. I can manage to get past his looks, but when he rolls his eyes back like the Undertaker, it became creepy for me.

I have nothing at all against Arnel either...and I don't expect or even want anyone else to sound just like Perry but with that said I think that was a rough performance. I don't agree that he is ugly at all but do agree that the eye rolls were unsettling and the run ons were distracting.

No way is he ugly. Far from it but the zombie eye rolls are not a good look!

Have you noticed that before anyone knocks Arnel's performance (including me it seems) they always add a disclaimer such as 'I like Arnel' or 'Whilst I am a fan of his' or 'He was great on the Summer Tour'.

Man, Augeri, JSS and Perry never had it this good!

That's it, no more pandering - The Party's Over!

This performance didn't knock it out of the ballpark, though the band was good. Arnel sounded like he was struggling and the eye rolling was a little weird for me too. DSB is an up song, but he looked almost grim. SP and Neal used to look like they were having the time of their lives performing this song. Today's performance was not what it should have been.

Great point, and I felt like I had to do the disclaimer as to not come off as a total hating Journey person. I could care less if the Pinoy army rises up against me- I could give two shits what they think. In fact, now that I have laid out my second disclaimer, and I honestly do think he is a helluva singer, that performance sucked.

Yep, our free speech was almost taken away from us and we didn't even notice! Many were lost along the way, assimilated into the PC cultural wave that crept through MR like an invisible toxin. Arnel's sh!tty performance and pimp get up is the call to arms!

I am not as rough on Pineda as you, and I have about 472 more reasons why the band I grew up and loved now never gets a spin on my machine...but Pineda needs to reel it in a bit, especially on a sing along song. He sounds like a soft pop Metallica singing lead for Journey.

I noticed it, and I've never seen him do that before. Maybe it really was a tough day for him singing this song. I can't wait to see clips of the whole hour posted by fans, so I can see how his voice opens up regarding the rest of the set, since this is the second song.

Personally for me I wasn't pandering...just agreeing that I have nothing against the man because it's true...I did'nt get all upset like others did when he joined the band and gave him a fair listen like I did when Augeri joined...never had anything against him either..or JSS....the first time I heard him with the band I was critical but after the second time of hearing him I changed my opinion. So think as you will but it's not pandering on my part ..just saying what I think.

Fuck it, I'm going to say it -

After this performance I would have much preferred to see JSS fronting the band at the Superbowl festivities.
