Is this the end ?!

Postby Behshad » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:52 pm

Is this the end for Arnel & Journey ?!
Tonights performance might give the band a wakeup call to either call it quits or try to get Arnel to be a full time member , moving to US and concentrating and investing in Journey 100%.
And before I get attacked by Arnel Army I should explain that I saw Journey with Arnel back in September and he was amazing. Tonite he was not. Maybe he had an off night but it seemed to me that he wasn't the same awesome singer I saw few months ago.

If Arnel is planning to stay with Journey then he needs to work on few minor issues to give this band a chance to retire with some dignity. After all , he is the only one in the band right now that cares more snout the music and the legacy of this band than $$$$$,,,,

They certainly aren't going to call it quits, but I do think that moving Arnel and his family to the US would be a smart move. I'm surprised they didn't move him here as soon as he got the gig.

Eh, Arnel was nervous. Wouldn't you be if you were performing before an international audience?

If he continues the same kind of performing that he gave tonight, it might be time for him to return home, but I sincerely doubt that will happen.

That wasn't even a typo. That was a "did Behshad's keys all switch places while he was busy staring at his own avatar?"

I saw a topic on another board (not music related) called "Journey sucks live". They sure as hell do not, but that is now the perception they have to live with. :(

I hope not.

I really don't know what the fuck happened today, but I'll agree with Behshad: he needs to stop with the fucking solo career and focus on the obligations to the band that provided him with the means to attain a solo career. Or he needs to quit.

Pretty much the equivalent of fumbling the ball. Playing at the pre-game for the Super Bowl was not the time for Arnel not to sing dead on. Annunciation issues again, holding the notes too long again. I dunno... when you have something as major PR as this, preparation should have been mandatory. The rolling of the eyes was definitely creepy. I really wanted Arnel to have improved, but if anything, it seemed like he went backwards.

He doesn't want to live here for now. His decision.

The band is not over. So far from it. Beshad is right, not his best performance. But for all we know the rest of the one-hour concert was really good. Hopefully, there will be videos posted. Some on his board said he had a cold at his charity concerts a few days ago.

But I did notice his accent during Phils appearances being stronger on a few songs. I don't care if he lives in the Phils during down period, but since he accepted the job as frontman of journey, he should keep up with his diction lessons and speak a lot more English over there so that each year there is improvement instead of slipping backwards and starting over. Truthfully, though, I didn't hear an accent on this song, but others said they did.

Also I believe he should really focus like he did last year b/f the tour started in June. I think he really put in the work from October to June on diction, working on Journey songs, etc, and resting his voice for big gigs. I don't know if he has been as disciplined towards that goal this time as he's more comfortable with Journey and been doing his own thing solo-wise. But if he hasn't, I think this will be a wakeup call for him and Journey that he needs to be. But having said that, I have no doubt that Arnel is the consummate professional and will be in top form vocally especially by the June Summer tour. Mark My Words we'll see the same great performances in concert as last year.

I love Arnel's voice and he has an award-winning personality. My problem is that any problems born from his babysteps into a solo career shouldn't exist at all. Solo careers have been nearly damning for Journey in the past and you'd think they'd have learned from their mistakes; Pineda's function is to be the charismatic lead singer for Journey. This may sound harsh, but I'm not interested in an Arnel Pineda solo career. He should respect the band more than that (and in turn, they should respect him by not wearing him out like they did Perry and Soto).

His solo career is mainly targeted at Filipino audience. If you are not Pinoy, then I don't think Arnel Pineda the solo artist, is interested in you either. As a Journey frontman though, I think he would love to see you in one of their gigs. :)

I think the point was, this time at least, his Journey appearance may have suffered due to his recent solo outings.
